I bet it's because they now have a good guy with a little beard - Flynn!
This is good for me if I do their college program. So if I get lazy and don't want to shave, I don't have to.

You can't grow the beard while you are working. It has to be full grown or nothing. If you come to work with stubble, you will be told to shave.

That is what the guidelines issued to cast members specifically state. An existing cast member would need to take vacation time to grow a full 1/4" beard, if they decide to do so.
