Rumors of my demise - Untrue!!!!
I know I have been away for sometime, but just wanted to let you know that I am still alive, just not available to get on a computer just yet. I have a very sweet daughter who brought this one in to me in the hospital and so here I am letting you know that rumors of my demise are unfounded and untrue.
My diabetic neuropathy in my legs had progressed farther than my doctoir is comfortable with. so I have been here in the hospital since the day after Christmas.
My blood sugars are just fine, but the arthritis and neuropathy combination was more than I could handle and the final decision was to amputate my left leg just above the knee.
Now I am in rehab learning to maneuver about in a wheelchair and will soon be getting my prostheric to learn to walk again.
Hope to be getting home in the next few days, and I will be able to get on the computer a little more often.
Just wanted to let you all know that I am doing fine and will be back stronger than ever in a a couple of weeks.

That is (somehow) great to hear, you're doing fine and not giving up.
So sorry to hear you're in the hospital though and had to give up your leg. It can be a slow and painful (not just physical pain) process to have to learn to walk again, especially when the amputation happened above the knee, but I can sense you're a fighter and willing.
Hope you recover fast and to see you on these boards again.
Take care.

There was a rumor? I never even heard about any nor did I ever notice your apparent absent to even think you were dead....

Wow, Bill, I've been out of touch and didn't realize things had gotten so serious. I am so sorry to hear that you've had to not only spend time in the hospital but also lose your leg. At the same time, I'm extremely happy to read that your condition is better than had apparently been reported and that your recovery is already underway. Best wishes and prayers to you. Stay strong, and get well soon!

Thanks for all the wel-wishes, and once again I am using my daughter's laptop to respond.
Today s a good day, I am being moved to a rehab facility to begin learning how to get back on my feet again )or should I say foot?.....lol). It will be about a week of working with a personal trainer and hopefully by the end of next week I will be getting fitted for my prostheric limb, and then more traiining on how to put it on and how to walk again.
Thanks again for all the thoughts and well-wishes and I will try to get on again in the next week or so.

Hi there, I am back with a new update!!!
Getting used to walking, or hobbling on one leg is really tiring. I can spend about an hour now in the rehab pool and on the walking bars, but my main enemy now is my weight.
Doctors want me to lose another 25 pounds and have me on pool exercises and floor exercises to do this. Plus I am on a strict diet to also help get rid of the weight.
Before they can fit me my prostheric I have to lose the weight or it will do me more harm than good.
I have less than 10 days left in the hospital, so I will have to learn to be mobile in a wheel chair and continue with my rehab three times a week. It is a a long haul, but I am up for it, and with the support of my family it is going to be a trip worth the work.
Thanks again to my daughter who brought me her laptop to use today.
Hope the next time I write it will be from home.

Another update!!!
I am at home now in a wheelchair, but I get to go to Physical Therapy three times a week and work on getting this weight off, as well as regaining my strength and learning how to get around on crutches, for now.
Oscar Monday also means a lot to me, as this will be the first day I will get to try to use my prosthetic limb for the first time. I am really looking forward to this. I am so glad that I have a great family support system and I have received numerous cards and well wishes from quite a few people on UD and the other sites I frequent.
Thanks again to all of you, as I get back on my feet. I appreciate everyone here more than they will ever know.
I will probably get back on my computer later this week and will be able to spend more time here and answer a lot of the threads that I would like to make contributions to.
