Clouseau? The Belgian duo? As far as I know, they only sing in Flemish.

Hey, Lazario, the list needs to be updated again. More importantly, a new list has begun.

Thanks.

Ya know... I am still very passionate about this project and happy with it. But I am currently going through a very stupid stop-and-start personal problem that is driving me to fricking CRAZY!! (Shockingly enough, it's not a computer virus.) I literally am running out of time I can divvy up between YouTube and here and only wish I had more. I will probably phase in and out a few more times in the next few months. Anyway, all of this informs my next choice:

D04: Pet Shop Boys - "What Have I Done to Deserve This"

I did not know that. (Something new everyday. :))

Oooooh... Um...

I know I said any genre is welcome but... okay, I hate these original songs (we all know who did "Will Survive" and I assume "Survivor" refers to the song by Destiny's Child), so I'll let this one go through. But, no more Glee will be accepted. I know, I know- I'm mean mean mean. But Glee's covers and redos are NOT welcomed in my thread. Unless they redo Bob Seger or "Come On Eileen" or something really terrible like that. Glee is one of the most horrible things that has ever happened to humanity and is nothing more Kidz Bop for post-tweenagers.

I completely disagree, especially with mash-ups. In my opinion, many of the songs are better than the originals, and a mash-up is a completely different form of a song all together (it's like a medley with only two songs). It's your game, so I'll tend to the rules, but saying that it's "one of the most horrible things that has ever happened to humanity" is being pretty overdramatic since most of the cast can actually sing very well (Michele, Colfer, Morrison, Rivera, Riley, McHale, Ushkowitz) and most of the covers they sing do the original songs justice.

Okay- that is officially The Most Shocking Thing I Have Ever Read. (And, obviously, you can imagine I've read a lot of "go die, fag"s throughout my life. So, I know shocking.)

So... I will say that since you clearly watch the show (and I won't watch anymore of it) maybe 99% of the songs they cover are tiny songs that no one has ever heard of before and only songs from the last maybe 10 years, etc.

And, because this is how nice I am (I mean, I erased the part of my post where things turned violent), why don't I wait for you to provide me with examples of songs Glee did better than the originals...before I hit the ceiling.

Sequel_of_Disney, what Glee covers do you think are better than the originals?

Hey, I think we better get this thread back on track. I don't really care for "Glee" myself anyway, so you won't find any of my inclusions coming from that show. Anyway...

Frank Sinatra - "Luck Be a Lady"

New rule sucks. I despise "teenybopper" music, BUT... the fun thing about this jukebox was that it hosted all kinds of different styles and tastes.

Yup. I don't really know any of their other songs, but Wikipedia tells me they recorded a few albums in English. "Close Encounters" is actually a cover of one of their previous songs, which was originally sung in Flemish/Dutch (btw, since you're from The Netherlands, is there a substantial difference between the two?) and called "Daar gaat ze".

Lana Del Rey - "Video Games"

I immediately went to check it on YouTube, because 'Daar Gaat Ze' is one of the most beautiful songs ever, in my opinion. The only thing both versions have in common is the melody --and the instrumentation in the original Dutch version is much better, too. I also think their English is not that good.

The original song is about a perfect girl who is worshipped by the singer. The lyrics build her up as the most beautiful and most spectacular woman anybody has ever seen. The lyrics say she can get away with everything, because the cops will just look at her and marvel; the pastors and the priests bow their heads and thank the Lord for His finest creation; and the prime-minister offers his position to the singer, just to be with this girl (of course, he refuses).

Compare to the original:

Well, from my experience, the original is always better by default but I've gotten so much used to the English version that I'd easily place it in my top 20 ballads. Still, I'd really like to know more about the original - is there a chance you could provide the Dutch to English translation?

The Beautiful South - "Perfect 10"

Sure. Here it is, a literal translation (except for expressions and saying, of course), without me trying to put it into rhyme. ;)

There she goes
And I never deserved that much beauty
There she stands
And I've never seen that much grace
Sometimes she talks
While she's playing with my pillow in her sleep
I let her be
As long as she shares my sheets with me

And even the keepers of the law
Look affable when she parks the wrong way
And even the cops have fun
When she marches by sensually
Unashamed

I know all too well
That she probably won't stay with me for long
I know all too well
That she passes time with others
Sometimes she has
Secrets I'd rather not know about
Sometimes she floats
And dreams, so she also forgets about me sometimes

And even the keepers of the church
Look down down affable upon her beauty
The bishop says: "This is God's work"
Bows his grey head and thanks the Lord
Another time, "Thank you, Sir"

Sometimes she has
Secrets I'd rather not know about
Sometimes she floats
And dreams, so she also forgets about me sometimes

And even the keepers of this country
Would rather stand inside my shoes
Yes, the prime-minister is competing for her hand
And offers me his portfolio
But I don't even have to think about it
Go to the devil!

There she goes
There she goes

Man, that's so not why I made it. I mean, I'm not accepting Karaoke versions of songs because a jukebox isn't a Karaoke machine. That's what Kidz Bop is- recorded karaoke sessions. And the Glee recordings are Kidz Bop for "slightly" older generations. There is zero difference other than the fact Glee has been given more exposure.

Anyway, it's a totally fair rule that doesn't exclude styles at all. As a matter of fact - I'll make a compromise: medleys on Glee are acceptable. As they would / will if they come from Moulin Rouge or, God help us, Happy Feet.

If a legitimate artist does a cover on their own, that's acceptable. And if a legitimate musical has an original collection of songs, that's acceptable too.

I'm not sure if I've posted this already, or if I've posted at all in this thread, but here goes.

"I Got a Name" by Jim Croce. Definitely one of my favorite songs. <3
