No nominations for Winnie the Pooh or any of the foreign movies. No song nominations for Muppets or Captain America either. The Globes are such a joke.

What BS. Tin Tin isn't even really an animated film; how, in their stupid little minds, does motion capture even count??

Sorry, but as much as I like Pixar, I feel that Cars 2 has no right to be nominated for best Animated Feature (this counts for both the Golden Globes and the Oscars). At least Happy Feet did not get nominated again.

There is a thread about the Golden Globes in the "Movies, Music and TV" thread. Let's talk about the Golden Globes there instead of the Academy Awards, which is what this thread concerns.

Since the Golden Globes is viewed by many as a precursor to possible Oscar nominees, I find mentioning them VERY relevant to this thread.

Stop being so bossy dvdjunkie, and let people discuss whatever the hell they feel like.

The Smurfs is ruled in-eligible for Best Animated Feature.

Why is Alvin and the Chipmunks eligible, but not Smurfs? Now I have not seen Alvin (as I despise those annoying squeaky-voiced demons so very much), but I did see The Smurfs and those blue elves are definitely in more than 75% of the running time. Even Azrael the Cat is fully animated at some points. In the opening fifteen minutes alone, the only non-animated character is Gargamel.

So, I'm very confused by this.

Thanks for reporting this, estefan.

Although it is odd, it seems inconsequential as we still get a slate of five nominees in the category (which is great news). So, no harm done. It's not as if The Smurfs had any chance of getting nominated anyway.

It seems I'm in the minority but I found Rango to be lifeless and unwatchable. I tried 3 times getting into that movie and turned it off halfway through the first two times and forced myself to watch it the third. Yuck! While Depp did a good job voice acting there was nothing else to redeem it in my eyes.

Puss in Boots is more annoying Shrek garbage. The first Happy Feet was crap... definitely didn't need more of that. Move on please.

Adventures of Tintin, Smurfs and the overrated chipmunks don't belong in this category.

Arthur Christmas was cute and a decent holiday movie but nothing spectacular. Rio was a movie my kids enjoyed a lot. The evil bird song was the best villian song since Scar's outstanding diddy... well Oogie's as well.

Winnie the Pooh was fun and Cars 2 I actually enjoyed more than most. Haven't seen Kung Fu Panda 2 but the first was awesome.

^Speaking of Rio, that song (Pretty Bird) ironically DID remind me of Be Prepared from The Lion King. Funny thing is, I don't even know why. :?

You are not alone on Rango. I am not nearly as harsh as you are but the film is not very engaging. And the bits with the armadillo and the Spirit of the West are nonsense where the film makers are trying to be profound.

I am also one of those who thinks that Pixar is overrated but this view has been challenged somewhat with the undeserved critical bashing of Cars 2 which though not brilliant, is fun and might well deserve a nomination in this weak field.

I guess I am the one that is in the minority because I think "Rango" was one of the best of the animated films to come out this past year. I liked the voice characterizations, and the story was very good. I thought the animation was very well done, and am proud to have it in my Blu-ray collection.

I do think "Rango" was more of an adult animated film, although my grandkids seem to really like it a lot. Some of the things that I laugh at just cause them to turn their head and look at me as if to say "what's so funny"?

I thought that "Rango" could have been nominated just as easy as be passed over, and it did get passed over. I would put it in the same category as "Kung Fu Panda 2" and "Cars 2" as one of the better films of the past year.

39 Original Songs Vie for Oscar's 2011 Playlist

Here are the Disney contenders:

"The World I Knew" from "African Cats"
"Collision of Worlds" from "Cars 2"
"Hello Hello" from "Gnomeo & Juliet"
"Love Builds a Garden" from "Gnomeo & Juliet"
"Life's a Happy Song" from "The Muppets"
"Man or Muppet" from "The Muppets"
"Pictures in My Head" from "The Muppets"
"The Backson Song" from "Winnie the Pooh"
"So Long" from "Winnie the Pooh"

Alan Menken and David Zippel's "Star Spangled Man" from "Captain America: The First Avenger" is also in contention. Other animated songs competing are "Bridge of Light" and "The Mighty Sven" from "Happy Feet Two" and "Hot Wings", "Let Me Take You to Rio" and "Real in Rio" from "Rio".

Personally, I think the nominees for original song should be Hello Hello, Life's a Happy Song, Real in Rio, So Long and Star Spangled Man, with Life's a Happy Song being my pick for the win.
