Wow, Minnie, that is so cool that you got to see the premiere of a musical AND meet the one and only Alan Menken.

I hope the musical becomes a success on broadway so it can tour and play in our area.

I shoulda interviewed him for UD.. if I do have the pleasure of meeting him again, I will try and see what I can do :D

Been very busy this week (wedding tomorrow) so not had chance to post all these updates!

Ron Clements and John Musker got to see the show on Tuesday!!! The 5th has posted images on their website;

http://5thavenuetheatre.wordpress.com/2 ... ge-photos/

The image is also the first image released since the early promo images and show Aladdin and Jasmine in their wedding outfits, Genie in his "I'm freee!!" vacation t-shirt (but no Goofy hat!), Jafar and the now human Iago, Sultan, and Babkak, Omar and Kassim along with the whole ensemble in their finale costumes.

Director Casey Nicholaw talks briefly about the show and staging the famous songs;

http://www.theatermania.com/broadway/ne ... 38695.html

And D23 has posted a short promotional piece (nothing new, but it's great to see Disney supporting the show);

http://d23.disney.go.com/articles/07121 ... attle.html

I don't think I'll be posting for a while, but I'll be back in time for the official opening 21st July and I'll try and catch everyone up then!

Edit: Andrew Keenan-Bolger tweeted earlier that he's just learnt a new song for the show and has very kindly confirmed that it's a "fun new reprise of High Adventure!"

Also is High Adventure song in it? If so, what scene it takes place in?

There is a flying carpet (they even show it in the promo images), but it sounds like carpet is less a character and more a transport device and only used in a few scenes as they didn't want to dress a person as a carpet (which is fair enough!)

Not sure how it fits in the story, but High Adventure is in the show (Act 2). It sounds like it's when Babkak, Omar and Kassim break out of jail and go to help Aladdin but someone who's been will be able to give you a better idea!

I'm back!!

I've been dying to post this for almost a week (it arrived in my inbox the day before I got married)! An interview with Don Darryl Rivera (Iago);

http://aladdinmusical.blogspot.com/2011 ... re-11.html

The are also some new production pictures in the previous post which were released via Broadway World earlier this week!

The show was frozen on Monday so anyone who's been this week has seen the finished version (unless they make changes after press night which is unlikely but not unheard of).

No reviews yet, but a new edition of the JMI show (with Jonathan Freeman and Don Darryl Rivera) has been posted on youtube by 5th Avenue, King 5 News has posted a video preview with interviews and clips from the show including Friend Like Me and High Adventure, and Talkin' Broadway has posted a short interview with Alan Menken! All links are on the blog (promise I won't be this lazy later when the reviews hit!).

Sorry for the delay! Here's the reviews;

http://aladdinmusical.blogspot.com/2011 ... -view.html

Mixed but generally positive. Most seem to agree that the show is good but has room for improvements. The interesting thing is don't seem to agree on what's good and what needs changing (AWNW in particular seems to really divide opinions).

Well today marks the end of Disney Theatrical/5th Avenue's production of Aladdin. If you're in the area there's still 2 shows left so make sure you see it today if you can!

For everyone who can't go (like me) make sure you check out these back stage pictures on Playbill as they follow Don Darryl Rivera (Iago) through his day;

Sadly not yet. Disney planned this as a one-off pilot production to launch it as a show they could license out to regional theatres and amateur groups. There was very vague talk of it possibly having a future Broadway run, but nothing official.

Right now Disney Theatrical are probably looking at the critics' reviews as well as box office and audience reactions and deciding if they want to do anything with it (B/way, national tour, etc) before putting it out for licensed productions. That's why a bunch of us from Aladdin Central are writing to Disney Theatrical and 5th Avenue to show support for the show and offer a fans' perspective on where we agree/disagree with the critics (details are on the blog). Might not do anything, but it certainly can't hurt the show's chances.

But enough doom and gloom. The show might be over but there's still some new stuff to see/read;
