I guess since Disney movies no longer seemed profitable it made sense to cut back on the sequels for those movies. Using that same logic, obviously since Pixar movies make money spinoffs and supposedly-mediocre sequels are called for. Planes makes complete sense...

Sorry for going off topic....
but since when the bloody hell did Tinkerbell become a "Saga:"...I Knew Tinkerbell joining e-harmony wasn't a good idea...this picture proves it...
As for Pixar's Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.....or Thomas vs Lightning Mcqueen - is Mcqueen faster than a locomotive or can Thomas be faster than Lightning? Stayed tuned...

What we joked about is actually happening.
Source: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142 ... 10278.htmlThe DisneyToon animation studio, which makes direct-to-DVD films, is at work on a "Cars" spinoff, "Planes," due for release in 2013. Mr. Lasseter, who also oversees DisneyToon, said that if "Planes" is successful, he may build additional titles around boats, trains and other vehicles. "It's a bigger idea that can be expanded," he said.

Delicious irony at its best. Lasseter says he would put a stop to DTV sequels and then goes around everyone's backs and claims it's for building up a profitable franchise. The very thing he wanted to stop at Disney is the very thing he's doing right now...creating mediocre sequels solely for extra cash.
But I don't think we have much to worry about even if Cars 2 flops. We should thank our stars that Brave is coming out next year and should hopefully give Pixar some rebound and redemption after Cars 2 does its damage.

Go to to the 1:14 part of this clip from the Dark Knight that I think applies to Michael Eisner and Possibly now John Lasseter in a way...also I think the hero part belongs to the late Roy E Disney...

^^ I may have to agree with that one. It seems when it comes to Disney, absolute power corrupts absolutely. People should only be CEO's and other powerful corporate positions there for a small amount of time to avoid becoming evil.
John Lassiter is still a hero of mine, but his reputation in my eye has been a bit tarnished the last few years. He's becoming more of a soulless corporate type the longer he stays in his position. Maybe he should have just stayed a director?toonaspie wrote:Delicious irony at its best.
