I'm sure there is a post for this already but I can't find it so I thought I'd ask: Does anybody else like the disney movie sequels? I haven't seen all of them but I really enjoyed the ones I have seen. Sometimes they get cheesey but I like them. I wouldn't say I have low standards but I'm pretty easy to please when it comes to movies. I don't think I've ever completely disliked a movie. There's usually at least one thing I like about a movie. Anyone's thoughts on the sequels, midquels, & prequels? :D

I hate the sequels with a passion that's almost impossible to describe. In my opinion, they're targeted at little children instead of all ages (like the original films), reducing the characters to former shills of themselves. All of the creativity and originality of the original films is sucked out of the sequels. They're badly scripted, poorly animated, the music is second-rate, everybody is out-of-character... oh, I could go on and on. The only sequel I've seen which I thought was very decent is Aladdin and the King of Thieves, mostly because Robin Williams returning as the Genie, and the strong original character of Aladdin's father Cassim.

Really? haha I don't know, I like them. Cartoons are funny & entertaining to me. I'm not going to lie though, The animation for the Aladdin sequels and The Hunchback II were shabby!

I haven't seen that many of the sequels. Lion King II wasn't bad, but I hate Little Mermaid II with a burning passion. Didn't like BATB: The Enchanted Christmas either.

I don't really count the Pooh movies as DTV sequels since they don't have a continuity. Besides, years of watching The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh got me used to the idea of seeing lots of stories in the Hundred Acre Wood.

They suck. Not every story needs a follow-up, but the ones that come anyway make little effort to live up to the original.

Also, it's just me, but sequels shouldn't be made to decades old movies, especially when nearly all the original personnel is gone. Bambi II felt even more like they were pissing on the first movie's legacy.

I was so glad when they put a stop to this stuff.

The direct-to-video Disney sequels suck, except for the Aladdin sequels and The Lion King 1 1/2, They were good, and as for Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure, it's somewhat okay, but the rest are so god-awful. Disney is guilty for making terrible direct-to-video sequels, and Universal is also guilty for too many goddamn Land Before Time sequels. Good thing Disney ended that misery.

haha omg I love that Roger picture! When he goes on the date with that crazy girl!

I love the Lion King II! I think I like it better than the first one.

I'm sad they stopped making sequels haha. I guess I'm just a sequel-guy.

I love the land before time & the sequels, granted I only saw movies from 1 to around 7.

Oh they've worked Winnie the Pooh to the bone! He's like a two-dollar whore on his last limb! He's been a puppet, numerous shows, numerous movies. Poor Pooh, he must be tired. The show must go on though because he's coming back in like July 2011 i believe!

Ditto.

The only direct-to-video sequels I like are The Lion King sequels. Most of them just aren't worth watching, in my opinion, though I just pretend they're non-canon, so they don't interfere with the continuity of the original film.

Well, a lot of the time they do have huge flaws.

I like the Lion King sequels. Not sure about Kronk's New Groove.

Yeah. I'm not saying all of them are perfect but I like going for the ride!
The Lion King sequels are more entertaining to me than the actual Lion King. I do like Lion King a lot though.

I'm so damn nosey too! I love knowing what happens next haha

I dislike sequels because in general they portray the characters from the first film completely wrong. For example in the Little Mermaid II, Ariel in my opinion would have told Melody that she used to be a mermaid. I mean Ariel disobeyed her father because he never had a real discussion with her, he just commanded her not to do something. I think Ariel would have realized her daughter would be the same way and would disobey a direct order without any explanations.

I could give a lot more examples of sequels getting it wrong. There are a few though that are enjoyable even though sometimes they get the characters wrong.

The Rescuers Down Under
Fantasia 2000
Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch
Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas
Pooh's Grand Adventure: The Search for Christopher Robin
The Lion King 1½

I like the sequels, unlike everyone here who treats them like the plague.

My favorites/Best of the bunch: A Goofy Movie, Aladdin and the King of Thieves, The Lion King II: Simba's Pride, The Jungle Book 2, The Lion King 1½, Mickey|Donald|Goofy: The Three Musketeers

These are OK for viewing: The Return of Jafar, Return to Never Land, Bambi II, The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning

Guilty pleasures/I know they're bad, but...: Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas, Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World, The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea, Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure, Mulan II, Kronk's New Groove

Avoid like the *plague!: Belle's Magical World, An Extremely Goofy Movie, Cinderella II: Dreams Come True, The Hunchback of Notre Dame II, 101 Dalmatians II: Patch's London Adventure, Atlantis: Milo's Return, Tarzan II, Brother Bear 2, The Fox and the Hound 2, Cinderella III: A Twist in Time, Disney Princess Enchanted Tales: Follow Your Dreams

Didn't include the Pooh movies because I haven't seen them in the longest time and in result have formed themselves into one entity. Tarzan & Jane and the Lilo & Stitch movies, whether good or bad, to me don't count because they're just continuations of their TV Series. The Tinker Bell movies get a pass by me because the quality of design is just beautiful for a direct-to-video.

IMHO, these overmarketed dreck-to-video WDTVA products paved the fall of Walt Disney Feature Animation - - tossing away decades of audience goodwill and trust in the quality of Disney artistic integrity, the art of animation and the unique qualities of the classic characters and storytelling. Except for the very short-term bottom line, this frown-factory initiative was a total disaster for Walt's creative legacy, irreparably changing how the former "premium brand" was perceived and experienced (see also Disney Channel).

Lilo & Stitch 2 is parallel to Stitch! The Movie and Leroy & Stitch. The latter two movies are the prologue and epilogue of the Lilo & Stitch TV show, which are all about finding suitable homes for Jumba's experiments. Lilo & Stitch 2 doesn't deal with any of that. It's about Lilo wanting to win a hula competition because her mother won one as a little girl, the aliens still adjusting to life on Earth, and something happening inside Stitch that is killing him. I've watched Stitch! The Movie, Leroy & Stitch, and every episode of the Lilo & Stitch TV show and all the sad scenes in them pale in comparison to the sad scenes in Lilo & Stitch 2.
