Hogi Bear wrote:@milojthatch By the way I forgot to add I think your fully Blue one (DisneyVolOneWIP002-1.jpg) and leathery brown one (DisneyVolOneWIP003-1.jpg) look the best (to me anyway), they have that classic look and would look really cool on custom made cases.

It's also cool how you put little Mickey heads in the centre top and bottom art pieces. You have an eye for detail.
Why thank you. I've really been working on Disney covers for the last four or five years. My first attempts even I would admit sucked and this project is literally teaching me how to use Photoshop as so far I've not taken any formal classes yet, so it's be enlightening if nothing else. But the final design totally came to me after thinking about it long enough. Some of the details have come while working on it, but mostly, I had an idea this time after working on all the other covers, what I wanted. I think I favor going with three different covers for anyone who would want to use them to do so. I'm all about people customizing what works best for them,a n d there seems to be no clear favorite, but a bunch of ties.

I think of all the threads I've started on this forum, this is the one I'm the proudest of. Besides showing my own covers and getting ideas for them, it seems it has inspired other very talented people to share their custom covers. I have not seen any here that I don't like at least a little, most of them a lot. I agree, many of the folks who have shared covers could and should have work making the real things for Disney. I have a lot more covers I hope to make, but I really hope more people keep sharing tehir covers as well. This may be the best thread on here. :D

Milojthatch, just so you know, I did also say if we had to have the colored ones I like 3 the best, but blue has alwasy reminded me of Disney more, 3 is just the most strikingly attractive to me. But like I said, purpley blue/blue reminds me of Disney the most. And this is certainly one the better/one of my favorite threads!

Hogi Bear, keep the lampost. The cover would be way to bare without it. And if you removed the lampost, then Wall-E and Eve would have to be moved more center for it to look good.

Thanks, this is a good thread. I think (and I admit there have been times I've let myself be part of this) this whole forum is really good at fighting and bickering. That just doesn't seem like a fun place to be. It's nice to have a more creative outlet here for once. Again, I love how many different people have posted custom cover work here and hope we see more beside my next stuff.

Anyway, as for the covers, I think I've defiantly decided to go with a few styles to let anyone and everyone who likes them have choices. I'm trying to make the pixie dust look nicer, but after that, I hope to work on the next cover, which will have all six "package films." After that, the third cover will have "Cinderella" to "Lady and the Tramp." I'm excited when it's all done! :D

@milojthatch It is a really nice thread and it's nice to know that these types of threads are helping people progress with projects like yours. It's good to know that working on these covers has helped you learn how to use PhotoShop and you should be proud of the outcome. :D

I personally have been using the Gimp for things like this. It's been good for what I've wanted to do. It's got a lot of the same features as PhotoShop.

I think I'll keep it how it is then. Thanks.

I'm not sure if anyone does want to use my Wall-e cover, but I'll upload a high resolution version. I guess I should also remove the ratings symbols as well. I had them on there so they look like every other Disney/Pixar DVD. The Australian/NZ covers (Disney/Pixar/Touchstone/Miramax) mostly have the same setup on the bottom half of the spine (thumbnail picture, set number, ratings symbol).

Question: I have been on the forum search, and need some help finding a few custom covers I know I have seen here. Someone had made DVD double-case covers for the True-Life Adventures, and I would love to see them again. Any ideas where else I can look?

Thanks

I once used Gimp before I used Photoshop, which isn't even the latest and the greatest version right now. Gimp got the ball rolling for me, but I'm happy with Photoshop.

There are a ton of custom cover sites with a lot of talented people on them. Even though I'm part of a few of them, most of them make you pay money to down load the covers. I'm guessing it is to keep the sites going. That kind of leads to my biggest pet peeve about these sites though is the fact that money is being exchanged for copy righted images. It doesn't always sit too well with me, so I mostly stick to free sites that I find. But, if you search these sites out, they can be great places to share your covers with people that are more likely to want to use them.

I'm not sure where that cover is per say, but I do know that soonish I hope to make a cover for it.

Been working on a concept art based series since the summer, though keeping the editions vague as to be useable on multiple releases.

I've been working on volume 2:

<a href="http://s170.photobucket.com/albums/u267 ... WIP001.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u267 ... WIP001.jpg" border="0" alt="Disney Masterpeice Vol 2 WIP 001"></a>

I need to make a few fixes. I found some mistakes on the back, but other then that, I think it is mostly done.

That looks really nice! I like how you use the actual film "logos" on the spine, instead of just generic text.

Have you finalized any of these enough yet to print them and start putting your sets together? Once you do, it'd be interesting to share photos of the completed cases to see how it all worked out!

That actually is the original logos on the spine. The guy I work with on this who mostly does the logos ripped thoughs off of either the original titles cards from each film or the original film posters. Then he turned them to gold. But, I understand that it may seem like simple text as that was more of how they did film titles back in the days of these films. But you are free to compare a contrast. Look at some of the posters on the back.

Yes, I'm sure once I have enough made, picture will be taken. But that may be a while.

Thanks for the kind words. I hope to have the fixed version of this and Volume 3 up soonish! :D I'm excited once the DAC covers are done and I can start on new designs for the next set of Disney DVD/ Blu Ray's! I have some ideas for the "True Life Adventures/ DisneyNature" sets...

I finished up Volume 3 of the series and had to fix Volume 1 (after finding a few mistakes). I'm currently working on Volumes 4 and 5.

Thanks. I almost put Cinderella in the center, but fears that after three covers, two would be princess centers made me re-think it. Don't want it to look like the Princess Collection till I make it.

I've got Baloo and Mowgli for the center of Volume Four.

Okay, at first I was a little surprised that Peter Pan was the center and not Cinderella. I guess I feel Cinderella is the most iconic of that era, and that it fits more with the first cover: the first movie, and the heroine of it.

But if you don't want to use that, it's all up to you. It still looks great! So classy!

I was really torn, and for a while, Cinderella was the center. But, after talking with my partner on this, the feeling was we didn't want three covers in for it to feel like the "Princess Collection." Disney Animation, while it's princesses are a big part of it, is a lot more vast in scope then just that part of it, and this set needs to showcase that. I can tell you now that Ariel, Belle and either Tiana or Rapunzel will be in the center as well, which is a lot of princesses. But, once the DAC sets are done, I do plan on making a "Princess" set, and Cinderella will be the center of one of those covers.

Presenting Volume Four! Five will be up soon.

<a href="http://s170.photobucket.com/albums/u267 ... olFour.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u267 ... olFour.jpg" border="0" alt="Disney Masterpeice Vol 4 WIP 001"></a>

And a tease of what I have planned after the main set for Disney Animation covers...

<a href="http://s170.photobucket.com/albums/u267 ... ssVol1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u267 ... ssVol1.jpg" border="0" alt="Princess Collection Volume One WIP 001"></a>

Please keep in mind this is VERY rough draft, but I share it to give folks an idea of what I plain on doing, and to show that Cinderella is being given her due. I may add one more film to this collection, have not decided what characters will be on it, and it is not the priority, the main set is. But I plain on doing this, Villains and Heroes.

These sets are very cool! I was wondering though, when you do the movie collection sets for the 90's films, are you going to show the more "adult" posters or are you going to show the "family" posters? You can do whatever you want, but I was just wondering...

First, thanks. Second, good question. I think for the main sets, I'd rather do the more "adult" ones, but it really comes down to what I can find. I want the main covers to look as nice as I can get them. I'd prefer using the secondary posters for the alternate sets, like the one I have right now for "Mermaid" in the princess set. I'm thinking of moving "Princess and the Frog" to the second Princess set, and using the current poster for the main cover set. I just have to find the secondary poster for "Princess."

You used a screencap from the awful Jungle Book 2 sequel for that new cover!!! Please make it one from the original Jungle Book which is the real movie in that set!

Also, if you used the Beast or Aladdin on the set that would have Ariel or Belle on it, then you could have Cinderella in the set that has Peter Pan.

I like the colors on the new Princess set, and you chose a really good classy image for the cover, but I would have chosen a different poster for Cinderella. I think this poster fits in better with the other poster in that set, tell me if you agree:
