Well, TP&tF definitely had some girlier merchandise (sparkle kissy frogs, anyone? http://i.pgcdn.com/pi/75/85/18/758518892_260.jpg ), but pink wasn't really a color of the film, besides for Charlotte. We know that purple is a color of Tangled, and maybe pink...? But of course they're going to make girly toys, because, really, what DAC with a prominent female doesn't get some girly toys (except for Eilonwy and Kida, I guess).

Ew, that just looks creepy. What child would want to play with that? And which person even designed that thing?

Anyway, enough with odd toys, and back to Tangled. I've become less perturbed about the name change, but all the girly merchandise that's surfacing has got me annoyed, not because of the items themselves, but because it seems paradoxical. It seems a bit hypocritical for Disney to go and change a film's title and its marketing relatively late in production to make it seem more like a boy's movie, yet still pour out millions into Rapunzel dolls, thereby implying that Tangled is still a chick flick. But anyway, the buzz about the movie seems positive, probably more so than The Princess and the Frog, so hopefully this release will prove that a Disney animation that isn't from Pixar can still do well. Or is that only a fairy tale?

I still think Princess and the Frog put Disney back on the right track. Even if it didn't make a boatload of money, it still did earn back most of its cost. Not to mention people love it for its quality, which is what the people want, next to hand-drawn animated musicals. Don't get me wrong; I love Pixar's movies, along with Bolt. But I really loved The Princess and the Frog a little more for nostalgic values. Yes, I grew up on hand-drawn movies and love those still to this day (even the "crappier" ones like Tom & Jerry and Quest For Camelot). Big whoop. Want to fight about it?

Old school Disney drawing style? I'm not quite grasping that part since the movie's gonna be CGI and they passed up on the painterly look.

My whole point with posting the pictures of toys was that just because they're releasing girly toys doesn't mean that the film is a chick flick...they're not going to neglect little girls who want dolls.


And thanks for posting the JHM article- it wasn't there this morning when I was on the site. *sigh* It sounds like it'll be a great movie- everything I've read so far as pointed to that. I would be more excited if it were hand-drawn, but I'm still excited nonetheless.

Just as in the features, the eyes, the movements and gestures - Disney has a certain look to its characters.

Sometimes subtle, sometimes exaggerated - Disney has been (for the most part) consistent in how its characters are designed.

And those designs can be realized in traditional animation or CGI.

Searching Amazon.com and Found Rapunzel and MAXIMUS Doll Set

If I got that toy, I'd leave off the bridle and saddle and trim down that mane. He looks as though he munched on some of Runzie's hair and the magic in it went straight to his hair and lengthened it.

I'm from the UK and even though the Movie is released under "Tangled" all merchandise is released under "Rapunzel" WTF

this is an animation test, you can see these in the pdf that comes with the article, with a lot of explanations on how they worked on improving CGI hair.

There's also a video of Siggraph which shows some footage of the Geek Bar sponsored by Disney animation and all themed around Tangled, where you can see the official sign of the "Snuggly Duckling"

Has anyone else noticed that the clothes Rapunzel is wearing are slightly different to the clothes featured in the trailer?
The smaller image i would imagine is from the movie but what i can't understand is whyy they would change her clothes if she is already beautifully animated?

Her dress and corset were just refined in design through the production which I remind people is very short due to this kind of movie.
They had patterns on her dress and changed a bit the purple range of her dress and corset.
The small new image does shows her actual clothes as in the trailer, except the shot where you see her foot coming into the light in the tower as the patterns used are older ones.
The dress and corset on the animation test where she is slidding on her stairs are very old and totally off-model.

I guess this is a little weird, since Maximus is a male...but little girls love to brush and style hair. I guess the long-haired Maximus will sell better than one with a regular-size mane. Although she's a female, Disney did the same thing with this Snow White doll:

Is it me or it's just that the animation looks more stop-motion-doll animation and oil painting-esque rather than "plain" cgi everyone is complaining about.(I'm not saying that you guys are complaining.It's the other so called "fans" of WDAS.)
In certain lighting and angles,it looks like an oil painting.for example, the screen shot of the tower that we've been seeing lately.
But in the screen shots above,it looks like doll animtaion because of the life-like texture and natural lighting.
