That's a neat video invitation! I soooo can't wait to see this show (at least on YouTube until I can get back to CA!)!

Here's something I found: http://publishing.obe-mediaone.biz/o-meon/?p=301.

What it says is that Bob Iger balked at using the "Wonderful World of Color" theme song for the show's song, on the grounds of it being too "nostalgic" for the guests there. Apparently, "nostalgic" means "irrelevant" to today's audiences, the tween portion of which he is focusing intensely on at the expense of everyone else.

I don't know if I should be calm or extremely worried. Hopefully, the show won't be butchered with all that Disney Channel stuff. :(

Editor's Note 5/28: Posted 5/27: After Steve Davison was given a list of suggestions by Bob Iger last month, Bob and a gaggle of senior Disney executives returned to Anaheim on Wednesday night to watch a final run-through of World of Color. Steve's "Lil Squirt" character didn't make the cut, and the problematic Chernabog tower was a no-show, but the classic 1961 introduction from Walt's original TV program did make it into the final show. The faster moving version of the show now clocks in at 26 minutes, and the executives left Anaheim late Wednesday mostly impressed and happy. All the last-minute creative input from Bob has nixed any ability to host formal AP or Cast Member previews, but the unofficial soft opening spigot might be turned on soon. - Al Lutz

Editor's Note 5/29: Posted 5/28: With Wednesday night's thumbs up from Bob Iger, the World of Color creative team is now preparing to hand off the faster-paced 26 minute show to Anaheim management to operate as they see fit. In order to prevent a mutiny by the Anaheim Cast Members, Cast Member Previews are now being quickly thrown together for five separate shows spread between June 6th and 7th, held after regular park closing time. If things continue to go well, there's a chance that at least a couple of soft openings during regular park hours might show up before June 9th. - Al Lutz

I've heard from FaceBook that the Alice in Wonderland and Dr. Facilier scenes have been cut from the show. (They're only incuded for a few seconds during the finale.) Can anyone confirm this? I'll be there in over a week's time and I'd like to know.

I saw the online broadcast (as well as several videos on YouTube), and they were indeed cut. Dr. Facilier appears very briefly during the "villains" montage while the only Alice thing in the show was the shape of the Chesire Cat and a brief shot of Alice falling down the rabbit hole. No big scene out of these movies were made.

I think the show was magnificent. It was truly magical and mesmerizing. I loved the music and the scenes used. My gripes are that some scenes ran for too long, while others were too brief (Up was seen for around a minute while we get the whole "A whole new world" and "Friend like me" segments).

My other gripe lies at the end of the villains montage. When they show Mufasa dying with Simba by his side, the song "So close" starts up. It's a very, very awkward selection of music and scenes, since "So close" is a love song used in many of the Princess montages. While the segment does close with the princesses, it's very weird and very awkward that the segment starts with Mufasa's death.

Clearly some things were deleted and I hope that with time they update the show so it's the definitive version of it. Still, World of Color was amazing and wish I could have been there to see it.

First World of Color cancellation...

Editor's Note 6/28: The second of three World of Color shows was canceled last night due to a burst pipe in the viewing area play fountain. While California Adventure guest relations did the best they could last night with the angry crowds, unfortunately those who did as they were told and called Disneyland Resort's guest relations this morning instead of waiting it out were pretty much stiffed. Bad show. - Al Lutz

I thought that was one of the best moments of the show. It made the song take on a whole different meaning. Being meant to remember those we've lost?

I just saw the d23 presentation of World of Color and that's exactly what they wanted to do with the segment (they called it Color of Tears). They said that it IS meant to show that even when there's darkness around us we have people close to us that help us deal with them. So yeah, I finally warmed up to the segment after watching several times.

Speaking of the d23 presentation it's amazing how much was cut out of the show. For example...

- Tinkerbell had more animation in the original opening. After the Disney quote appears on screen, each letter would fall to the lagoon, creating an effect with the fountains. The "D" in Disney, however, would refuse to go down, so Tinkerbell goes out after it and it finally falls. This is then represented in the show as an orange fountain named "Squirt", which represents Disney's spirit of fun, adventure and happiness, and was supposed to appear throughout the show. This was cut, in the final version Tink just makes the quote disappear.

- The whole Wonderland segment looked amazing in terms of animation. They did keep the Chesire Cat segment, but I wish they had kept the whole thing.

- The transition from Pines of Rome to Wall-E had a neat effect in the original version. Diana (the goddess that shoots the arrows into the sky in the Pastoral segment in Fantasia), appears at the end of Pines, then shoots an arrow into the sky. The cool thing is that originally they wanted it so that when the arrow is sent flying it turns into EVE from Wall-E, creating an unique marriage of classic Disney animation with modern Pixar animation.

I also saw a video of the testing they did back April. Here are some differences I noticed:
- The Little Mermaid segment doesn't have the full "Part of your world" song. It just starts with the water dancing, then it quickly cuts to the last part of the song (which is when the water screens show Atlantica).

- The original "Under the sea" segment had a paper model version of Sebastian rather than the classic animation seen in the final version. I prefer the final version better because I think it looked very stiff and off-model.

- The "A whole new world" segment just had a chorus singing the song rather than the original version. Once again, I prefer the final version over the original.

- The "Up" segment had no music.

- The "Friend like me" segment wasn't in the original version, it instead cuts right into the Forest Sprite/Pocahontas segment.
