I suppose they could have picked a worse time to do this. I mean, everything is out on DVD, and they've only just started on Blu-Ray. Pinocchio and Sleeping Beauty will be re-released as Diamonds annyway... Snow White is the only one that's really gonna be the issue for me. It's not just the number though, its the moving of the little portrait from the bottom to the top of the spine that sticks out the most to me.

Sleeping Beauty is odd though, didn't it just go back in the vault?

The covers on those *ahem* Musical Masterpiece editions are horribly off-model.

Anyway for list-purists I don't think this the best option since it includes Mary Poppins, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Pete's Dragon and The Wild. So, I know for a fact that the Dutch spines count TPaTF as the 53rd Classic, not the 49th. Not sure about the UK ones.

http://disneyinfo.nl/dvddetail.php?film=3496
This link shows The Princess and the Frog cover with the number 53 on the spine.

http://disneyinfo.nl/dvddetail.php?film=2052
And this link shows Mary Poppins with the number 19 on the spine.

I dont think animated/live action movies nor outsourced ones are being counted in this case.

Well, better late than never I suppose :D

I do have some issues with the way they chose to portray these numbers on the spine...

Such an ugly messed up, easily photoshoped logo :x

I think most of us here could manage way better.

I also resent Disney releases from now on being released as sole

''disney '' instead of ''walt disney'' it's like taking away a bit of
pixiedust

There's a list of them inside the Dumbo case for the UK release, and no Live Action stuff on there. It goes up to Bolt at 48. Oddly, there's a coming soon page, with Blu Ray boxes for Beauty and the Beast, number 30, with the little profile pic on the bottom, Fantasia as 13 (huh?), and no profile pic, so guess this was thrown together quickly, and then more bizarre, Princess and the Frog with a number 4 and no profile pic.

I just got my Dumbo Blu-Ray edition just yesterday and didn't got an insert of any kind nor a shiny cardboard slipcover.

I feel so violated

Well, thanx for the intel :D

That poster is odd, it does include The Wild, yet fails to mention Dinosaur. If I had a dollar for every time Disney contradicted themselves with the so-called "Classics"-list, I'd have enough money to buy the company and enter an offiicial list myself.

I'm not a fan of this. It just looks stupid if you've another system to order your DVDs and Blu-Rays. Anyway, it's still better than what Disney Germany had up one's sleeve though. I just hope they won't restart the (not so) Special Collection on Blu-Ray later:

You have to buy DACs, Sequels, Pixars, Live Action films with animated sequences and many of them twice to complete your collection. It's the german pendant of the Gold Collection, but still in use. All rereleases will just added at the end. And that's all for a picture which is completed just a little less hideous.

EDIT: Not forgetting the limited "Best of Special Collection Steelbook Series" :brick:

That's actually quite a nice design. Makes me wish Collections were still being done in America.

though I understand they're not in order of production, if that's where you're coming from.

EDIT: Okay, I just read your complaint about buying the sequels. But It would be nice if we got something like that here for theatrical releases only.

I prefer to separate my Platinum/ Diamond Editions from the rest. Well, maybe it's just what I'm used to till 10 years, because you simply can't integrate them here into your Disney Collection. They're the only titles without the spine drawing.

Err I'm peeved alot by this. On Monday I was in HMV and seen Dumbo and was going to pick up the Blu-Ray and the standalone DVD for my collection (As it's one of the very few classics I'm yet to purchase) and I seen the stupid numbering on the spine, I decided against purchasing it there and then, but when I do get around to get it it's certainly going to look out of place with the rest of DAC :x Also when I was in HMV today (OK so I LOVE HMV bit of a guilty pleasure :D ) I noticed that Mulan the Musical Masterpiece Edition had been given a numbered spine as someone else pointed out earlier, I checked Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs amongst others to see if they'd been re-printed which they haven't as of yet. I guess I can expect the rest of the Diamonds to have labelled spines grrr, two other Classics that I've been waiting to obtain are Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 now they're going to look so out of place as well, my collection will look bish bosh. Sorry I know I'm rambling here but I like to keep some level of conformity, plus I know what Disney are like they will start something like this but there's no saying they will stick with it, so in two years time they might suddenly decide to stop labelling the spines and that'll look even weired...sorry...I'm tired and irraited I'll shut up now
I love The Little Mermaid and Ariel

Really, who cares? They're just numbers on a cover! Can't see them once they're in the cupboard, anyway.

This was part of the insert inside the UK Blu-ray of Tangled. Apparently, in the UK canon Dinosaur has been substituted with The Wild.

Yup, they've been doing this in Holland since Snow White in 2009...it came with a sheet of stickers (1 to 50) for those who wish to sticker all the spines of dvds they already own. Horrible!

Especially in Holland, since they include Mary Poppins, Bedknobs and Pete's Dragon (and maybe more, who knows).

I just wish to collect the 51 (so far) classics as the US is considering them. I mostly import R1 dvds...

I do buy the Diamond Edition DVDs in Holland, because I want some of them for the Dutch Audio Track. I just number them (with the stickers) 1 to 12 myself.

Hope the US won't start the numbered spine trend. And I also hope they soon stop doing it over here.

Could you please take a pic or scan the insert that lists the canon in Holland?

In France, it's even worse. They include and number as classics all of the DTV sequels.

Yep, all of them. They also include the animation/live-action hybrids. The latest classic, Winnie the Pooh (2011), is #102!
