Simply put....I don't have permission to use the song. And they aren't getting a direct profit from it. They automatically assume anyone who hears the song will go and download it for free, illegally.pap64 wrote:I just don't understand WMG's logic. They can't assume that video makers illegally download the songs. And they are not seeking profit from it. Its like when you sing karaoke. You don't pay to sing it at any time during the day, so why is it a problem when someone makes a video with it?
And yet, I hear the exact opposite...a lot of times people will comment "I never heard that song/saw that movie before, I am going to check it out/buy it, thanks!"
UMG, Sony and a few others DO allow for many of their copyrighted materials to remain on YT with links to download them on ITunes and Amazon. They often toss an advertisement over the bottom of the video and to the right of the video. They also track my insights, see who's watching, how many times its viewed, etc. All that is fine. They can put a commercial before the video for all care, so long as it gets to stay up.
Though the fact I changed the audio on the YT video kinda was a happy accident...the song I chose would be good for Princess and the Frog when that is on DVD
