Animated Classics SURVIVOR - Round 1

Post by AwallaceUNC »

Ok, guys, I've played this on a lot of other forums (mostly pertaining to the lady viewed on my left :P), and it's always a lot of fun and becomes one of the most popular features on the board (it usually warrants being a sticky-topic). I'm hoping it has the same success here:

It works just like the Survivor TV show. Basically, come on here once every 5 days and vote for the Disney Animated Classic (see the list http://www.ultimatedisney.com/ultimateclassics.htm) that you want to vote off, i.e., the one that you like the least! At the end of the week, I'll come on here and announce who got voted off, and a new thread will start for the 2nd week. This gets to be a lot of fun, especially when it gets down to the wire.

I would make it a poll, but then you run in to people voting multiple times and what-not, so just come on here and post. You can talk about why, but I ask that you put the full title of what you're voting for in bold letters so that it's easy for me to count them all in a hurry.

I realize that there's been a Top 20 Animated Classics countdown here before, but the way in which this is done will likely render very different results, plus it's been a while since then and this will be fun for all! :)

The problem with these movies (versus songs on an album or movies by one actor, which I'm used to), is that there's a lot of them. I thought about breaking it up by year of release, but that wouldn't be as definitive. Therefore, the four movies that receive the most votes will be kicked off each week, UNTIL we are down to the final 10! Then it will be two each week until we're at the top 5... then it's one a week!

This is kind of a pilot, but I think it can work well.

So, Survivors ready?? Come on in and vote off ONLY ONE of these movies

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Pinocchio
Fantasia
Dumbo
Bambi
Saludos Amigos
The Three Cabelleros
Make Mine Music
Fun and Fancy Free
Melody Time
Adventures of Ichabod & Mr. Toad
Cinderella
Alice in Wonderland
Peter Pan
Lady and the Tramp
Sleeping Beauty
101 Dalmations
The Sword in the Stone
The Jungle Book
The Aristocats
Robin Hood
Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh
The Rescuers
The Fox and The Hound
The Black Cauldron
The Great Mouse Detective
Oliver & Company
The Little Mermaid
The Rescuers Down Under
Beauty and the Beast
Aladdin
The Lion King
Pocahontas
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Hercules
Mulan
Tarzan
Fantasia 2000
The Emperor's New Groove
Atlantis: The Lost Empire
Lilo & Stitch
Treasure Planet
Brother Bear
Home On The Range

Also, I ask that nobody else declare a winner. I say that because there have been instances were some drama was stirred up when someone jumped the gun and then there was a discrepency... I come in every day, I promise! :)

Voting ends at midnight (EASTERN TIME) on Tuesday, March 23rd.

My vote goes to The Three Cabelleros. Of the ones I've seen, which is nearly all of these, it's definitely my least favorite. Just kind of disjointed and doesn't boast a lot of plot... it's alright and I like the music, but it's definitely my least favorite. :)

I choose to cast my vote for 3 Cabelleros, its the only one from the list that I find boring and did not like very much. It does have some good parts with the flying donkey and the penguin segment is good too but they are not enough to save the film.

I too vote to axe <b>The Three Caballeros</b>.

It might be better to vote off a few at a time, or else the game could take a long, long time. But that's fine, too, if you'd like it that way.

I hope that these first couple weeks actually gather a majority of votes for 4 movies. We'll have to wait and see! Do enough people come to the Polls & Games forum? This might be better-suited for General Discussion, as it does spawn discussion... but I guess we can wait and see.

Definitely The Aristocats. It has a great soundtrack, but everything else falls flat. Although I have to admit that even the worst of Disney (which this arguably is) is still halfway decent (which this definitely is).

Yeah, I was gonna eliminate the 4 top vote getters each round, until the top 10. It'll still take a while, but not as long... I just hope we get enough votes for 4. This site gets a lot of traffic, so it shouldn't be a problem :)

Hmm... Home on the Range is going to get quite a free ride here. It will come out while this game is still going on, so I'm not sure what to do. Obviously, we can't vote against it 'till we see it, but it will be a few rounds into the game when it premiers. Either way, it's unfair... either HOTR gets an unfair advantage, or we leave it out and the game won't be as valid when all is said and done, b/c it will be lacking an animated classic.

I don't want this discussion to intervene with the voting, but feel free to tag your opinion on this along with your vote. Thanks.

I vote down the Aristocats as well. I just saw it for the first time a couple weeks ago and it seemed really disjointed. Plus the girl kitten annoyed me to no end.
