Disney Duster wrote:Reiner, Fantasia's cover's good, except...you cannot use the mirror from Snow White! You can never use something that doesn't come from the movie you're making a cover of! I also really like the Destino cover except the bottom banner, and well, the lack of a good background.

Did you make your sketches colored with the Photoshop tutorial steve gave?
Sorry to answer so late. holidays

Thanx for your input D.D always glad to see someone cares!

Gosh  I thought it was the one from Snowwhite, The original picture had a strange feel to it.

Destino's more of a guideline than it is cover-art, not much to go on realy

The ursula and ariel coloursketches I made were not in any way related to Steve's tutorial, wish I could do it his way

Create Custom Coverart for Disney DVDs!

Post by Disney Duster »

Thanks steve! Well, I guess it's not your fault. And Disney sometimes puts things not in the movie at all on their covers. I just think us fans should make the best covers we can! And you did, the designs are great. Destino would be really great if it had an actual background, but as with similar colors and as simple as the one you gave it.

Here are 2 I made for The Black Cauldron and Oliver & Company. I know their not in the Platinum line but they need new covers badly.

I think The Rescuers Down Under need a new cover too. It would be great if Disney would just use the old VHS covers. Those were some of the best artwork ever seen!

Wow, this thread is amazing, totally wonderful to read through, just sat here reading it all and seeing the covers, they're awesome. :)
I've always loved the idea of working for Disney in Marketing or Product Design or Business, or one of those areas, and basically I'd love to have a say in what DVDs are released, what goes on them, how they are promoted etc. Working at Disney or Warner Bros. or Coty is a gogal of mine. I'd love to design the DVD covers/releases, so reading this thread has inspired to create some stuff! I plan to do a whole series of stuff, and not just covers for Disney movies or DVDs at all, I'd love to do cover art for CDs, and posters/advertisements too. This website kind of links into this, it's http://www.coverlandia.blogspot.com and has different covers for CDs and songs, it's pretty cool.
Anyway, was just wondering if someone could write a list of what people use to make these? I know obviously Photoshop is used, and screencaps and stuff, but I want a list of everything that people use, like these tablet things (what are they?!), so I can try them all out and be making covers just like Disney soon.
:)
Thanks, if someone does help me out....Oh, and I dunno if anyone would know, but what do the people at Disney actually use? Coz I dunno if they'd use Photoshop or someone heaps fancier haha.

very interesting cover arts I realy like the sketch cover for Black Cauldron. I would love to see what somebody comes up with for the covers of Pete's Dragon, Hocus Pocus and Bedknobs/BroomSticks.

I made a crappy version of "Beauty and the Beast" in some seconds of free time, so here it is.
It's really crappy, lol.

I'll work on a better one soon.

I'm one of the few people who don't like the 2009 Platinum cover art Disney has released for Snow White, so I decided to make my own. I'm not a whiz at Photoshop and this is the first time I've ever really used that software, but I would like to see Disney go with a concept more like this:
<a href="http://s16.photobucket.com/albums/b45/a ... wWhite.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b45/a ... wWhite.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

I feel like the artwork Disney did is far removed from the look and feel of the film. I was inspired by the layout of the original theatrical poster with the castle in the background, Snow White in the center, The Prince to the left, the Queen to the right, and the 7 dwarfs crowded in front. I also tried to find a font that was close to the original poster. I would have liked to have bordered it, but I don't know how to do that and it would have covered the castle.
