What's New at DisneyLand?

Post by Mushu2083 »

Hi guys, I'm back. Most of you may not remember me, but a few of you might. I've been busy with college graduation, a job and some other stuff getting in the way. Well I'm going to DisneyLand in July with my boyfriend and his mom for two days as a side trip while he drives his mom to Spokane (I have to fly by myself back to Phoenix). I was wondering, besides the Finding Nemo submarines, what else is new at DisneyLand? I want to hit all the new stuff before I hit all the oldie but goodie. Plus, the good part of this trip is that I'm with people that won't complain the whole trip about every little thing that is out of our control.

Mushu2083, welcome back. I certainly remember you, and it's good to see you around. How long has it been since you were last in Disneyland? That would help in deciding what qualifies as "new". Have you been since Monsters, Inc. opened in DCA, for example? :)

Last time I was at Disneyland was 2006 when I was in Anaheim for anime expo. We had to cram everything into one afternoon and I didn't get to do some of the stuff I wanted to do like start my own pin collection. One good thing about this trip is that I don't have to cram everything into a few hours. I have two whole days! One more question. What's Disney Dollars? I was looking at the Disneyland website and I saw something that read "For the ultimate park experience, get Disney Dollars." Are they like traveller's checks or something?

Disney Dollars are just like US dollars, only they feature Disney characters rather than presidents. $1 US = $1 Disney. You can get your Disney dollars at Guest Services (not all locations have them, but City Hall on Main Street is a guarantee). You can also buy them at most, if not all, Disney Store locations.

While you're on Disneyland (or Walt Disney World) property, you can use Disney Dollars just like cash. You will received US dollars as change (example: you purchase a $10 item with a $20 Disney dollar bill... you will receive $10 US in return). They're really just for fun. Alternatively, you can purchase them to keep as souvenirs. Different denominations feature different characters and you may mix and match as you please.

As for what's new at Disneyland, here's a list just off the top of my head (you may have already experienced some of these):
  • *Finding Nemo submarines
    *Space Mountain 2.0
*Pirates of the Caribbean now features significant elements from the first two films
*Haunted Mansion has been considerably updated
*Tom Sawyer Island has been converted to "Pirate's Lair on Tom Sawyer Island", complete with a mini pirate stage show
*Disneyland: The First 50 Magical Years
*When I was there a couple of months ago, there was some work being done to the first floor of Innoventions; I'm not quite sure what was going on there but you might want to check it out
*It's a Small World is closed for a while while some extensive refurbishment is done
At DCA:
  • *There's a pretty cool tribute exhibit to Snow White in the Animation Building. Supposedly this is leaving soon (or perhaps already has), and I've heard that a tribute to Sleeping Beauty is coming at some point.
*Monsters, Inc.: Mike & Sulley to the Rescue
*Pixar Play Parade (different from the previous Block Party Bash -- and much better)
*Toy Story Midway Mania (officially opens 6/17 but will likely be unofficially available to the public before that)
Hope this helps!

Sweet. My boyfriend's mom got us park-hopper passes so we're doing both DL and DCA. She might get a little steamed when she finds out It's a Small World is closed. It won't be that much of a big deal but it's one of her absolute favorite things.

Yep, already gone. Really, I didnt like it being there anyways. Watching clips from all the movies in that giant room is great.

Man, I was kinda hoping I could see that. I love Snow White. Oh well, there's still tons of fun stuff. I'm thinking of going to Crystal Arts and seeing if they can make me a Stitch and Mushu figure out of crystal. I wonder if they charge extra for special requests. Anyone know?

Are the huge crowds they're experiencing at Disneyland because of Halloween time and annual passholders trying to experience all the Halloween stuff?

I hope it goes away before my visit on November 15th/16th!!!

...TDA planners are now drafting plans to open up currently unused areas of the park to build new attractions, instead of simply reinvigorating existing facilities that are already modestly popular, like the Star Tours 2.0 makeover that begins in Tomorrowland this August. Not surprisingly, John Lasseter and Tony Baxter have jumped on this change in tone from TDA executives, and are giddy over the possibilities for some major new E Ticket attractions for Disneyland by the middle of this decade.

And yes, that was E Ticket attractions, plural...
