No I do not smoke and never hope to.

Thankfully smoking has been outlawed in restaurants in Florida, but as you walk in all the smokers are standing outside the door.

Like usuall, at my school all the potheads skip in the bathrooms smoking. The administration dosn't even try to get them. The joys of living in backwards Florida.

Thank you very much. I don't think that I posted here, on this thread yet, but I thank you in advance.

Now on to the topic at hand, which is the smoking of cigarettes. I don't smoke. I can recall a time, perhaps I was maybe around 4 years old. I looked at my dad's burning cig in the ashtray. Dad asked me if I liked the look of that. I recall saying yes.

He said "Go ahead and take it if you want." So I did and got burned. He said that sometimes you just need to learn things the hard way, on your own. I never even thought about smoking again.

Thanks Dad, you sadistic freak!

And yes, that WAS a true story.

Hey, I have some sad news.

In my Debate class we are doing a "Student Congress", which basically we present a "bill" to the class and people get up and talk about it and the rest of the class asks questions and in the end we vote on it.

Well, my bill (coincidently) was about abandoning smoking in public places and we discussed it today. Unfortunately, my bill failed from a 15 to 5 vote. And to think, mine was only to get rid of smoking in public places and not all together!!! I guess it goes to show you that smoking is a bigger problem in high school than you think.

I only smoke cigars when I'm playing poker with my buddies and that's like every 3 months or so cuz most of my friends are in college in different states. I'm not going to be a regular smoker because my goal is not to have a heart attack when I'm 37. That, and my grandma died of lung cancer so that's another reason why I don't smoke.

Well smoking isn't cool, I'll give you that, but die shortly? That could be a little extreme and, of course, would be very sad.

I don't smoke, nor have I ever tried a cigarette. The only drug I've ever experimented with (other than alcohol) is marijuana in the form of brownies, and that's something I hope never to experience again. Those delicious, chocolaty squares might look harmless, but trust me, you can't judge a book by its cover.

I actually used to be a smoker, but I quit about two years ago. I will still have a cigarette here and there, socially, but I don't buy them anymore or consider myself a smoker.

I have never smoked once in my 67 years of life on this earth. Never even been tempted to. I have enough trouble with halitosis without adding cigarette smoke to the mix, besides I don't like the odds of living a nice long life if I were to smoke.

I have yet to ever hear of one good excuse why a person smokes. "oh if I don't smoke then I'll get fat!!"........how many times have I heard that sad excuse.

My grading scale on women goes way down when I see one who smokes. She can be the most beautiful person in the world, but it she has that cancer-stick between her lips, I feel so sad for her. Women look so cheap when they smoke anyway, and I have never figured out why they think it is so cool to so, especially in public places.

It has been proven that those who smoke will die a lot sooner than those who don't. Those who live in a home with a smoker, have more a chance of getting lung cancer from second-hand smoke.

Besides, cigarettes are so expensive. I could never afford all my DVD's if I smoked.

My mom and aunts smoke thankfully not around me My Dad used to smoke all the time around me but he doesnt live with us anymore anyways...so my lungs are basically chared up and they dont need to be anymore.

I do not smoke...I can't stand it...its a waste of health and a waste of money...I just don't see how smoking could benefit a person in any way...I know its hard for people to quit, but it would be all worth it.

Oh and Im 18 by the way...all though I think the campaign in Mexico is over already right? Since this thread is two years old.

I used to 2nd hand for years. I hate it, but my Dad smoked so I had to live with it. He quit last year, because of health reasons (COPD). Although I hate he now has this condition I'm so thankful that he no longer smokes. Sadly almost 90% of my family still smokes, so I get to be around it everytime I visit a relative. They have been good around my Dad though and want smoke around him anymore.

I don't smoke, but unfortunately I have been living all my life in a smoking environment. Both my parents used to smoke. My dad still does. My mum can't because she passed away 5 years ago (nothing related to smoking though).

I remember my mum used to make an effort to stop the cigarettes, but just when it seemed she made in improvement, something new would crop up and spoil everything. My dad won't be moved though ... he says it's no use trying to stop them now it's been too long. He's been smoking for 50 years.

It makes me really mad though to think that I've been a passive smoker all my life. I'm already a little overweight* and I'm not into sports ... so I feel very unfit healthwise. The last thing I need is 2nd hand cigarette smoke.

*Unfortunately I've gotten rather fat these last 5 years. At least when I'm dressed it doesn't show that much ... in fact people usually don't think me fat because my clothes "disguise" my appearance. Of course I'm also helped by the fact that I'm 6 feet 4 inches tall. :P

I've never smoked, and I never will. I can't even stand the smell. And, I have asthma, so I'd probably be unable to breathe if I tried. Which I wouldn't, because it's majorly unhealthy. My best friend's grandmother smokes, and, growing up, my mom would get mad at me for coming home smelling like smoke (she knew I didn't smoke, but she didn't like the smell). I don't understand why kids these days would smoke, unless they have a death wish- schools teach so much about smoking that you'd think the kids would understand that it's bad for you. It's sad. I think that smoking should be outlawed (some may think that's extreme); second-hand smoke can kill, and it's unfair for those non-smokers to get lung cancer from smokers (Christopher Reeve's wife, Dana, died of lung cancer; although I don't know what caused it, she was a non-smoker).

My rant is over. As many others have said, I didn't mean to be inconsiderate; just saying how I feel.

Nope. I've tried it though. I just don't understand how you can addicted. It's nasty. It's like saying you got addicted to cranberry juice (which is the most god-awful thing I've ever drank in my life, second only to beer).

Nearly my entire family smokes though, except for my maternal grandparents (who used to, but quit). My mom says she'd try to quit, but my dad wouldn't and she couldn't live with the smell and temptation of him around. That's not an excuse, just an explanation.

Never smoked - never had the desire to try, either - and I've always thought it's quite obvious that it's unhealthy.
