Ultimate Disney Movie Awards 2007 - Nominations

Post by AwallaceUNC »

Image

Welcome to the Third Annual Ultimate Disney.com Movie Awards - 2007! I hope you will all join me in following in Jack Seiley's footsteps and honoring the best of 2006 in the world of film!

This is the first stage, in which you all get to nominate films in the following categories (and those categories only). You may nominate up to 5 films in each category (you may nominate less than 5, but no more than that). Please only nominate movies that you have actually seen. Nominations must come from films released in 2006 (IMDb dates will be used as the final source for this). Yes, it's the 2007 Awards because that's when it takes place, but the films must come from 2006! The same film can be submitted for multiple categories.

You have until 11:59pm (eastern time) on Wednesday, February 7 to submit your nominees. You may edit your votes up until that point but not after. Any posts edited after that time will have to be disqualified. The finalists will be announced shortly afterwards.
*The nominating round is over. Please do not submit or revise any nominations*.

To browse through 2006 films by their US wide release date, go here: http://www.joblo.com/releases.php?mode= ... &year=2006

The categories are below:

Best Film
Best Drama
Best Comedy
Best Animated Feature
Best Director
Best Actor
Best Actress
Best Supporting Actor
Best Supporting Actress
Best Original Screenplay
Best Adapted Screenplay
Best Cinematography
Best Costumes
Best Make-Up
Best Set Design
Best Original Score
Best Original Song
Best Visual Effects
Best Sound
Best Sound Effects
Best Editing
Best Sequel
Best Book-to-Film Adaptation
Best Villain
Best Fat Guy in a Movie
Best Opening and/or Closing Credits
Best DVD Release of a Film

Please post any questions or suggestions... and of course your nominations! Thanks to all who participate! :)

Stay tuned... I will be posting the Second Annual UltimateDisney.com Media Awards Soon. As with last year, the nomination and voting processes for the two awards will be kept separate but will be presented as part of the same ceremony.

*This year sees the addition of one special category, that of Best Opening and/or Closing Credits. Timon/Pumbaa fan suggested it and I thought it might be neat... we will see if it gets enough response to keep it around. I don't want to add too many categories, so let me know if it's too much.

This is just a suggestion, but I think Best Trailer/Marketing Campaign might be a cool idea.

Anyway, will get to nominating soon.

YES! The awards are finally here! :D

Oh and I'm glad you liked the suggestion! Thanks for adding it! But you didn't take down "Best Fat Guy" which I also suggested, simply because I'm still not sure 2006 had offered much. Well, we'll see with what people nominate. :)

Oh and here's another suggestion: Can we give "The Nightmare Before Christmas in 3-D" a honorary Golden Mickey for the amazing use of 3-D in an existing film not originally made in 3-D? I feel it was certainly an amazing achievement worth noticing and one of the highlights of my theater-going experiences and movie experiences in general.

My nominations will come soon.

One question: If we don't know what to put in a category, then do we have to put a movie in there, or just take it out of our lists?

You can leave any category blank if you wish.

As for horror movies, I'd rather hold back on the number of categories for now. You can still nominate those for any of the other categories.

I just saw The Santa Clause 3 and have updated my noms accordingly (and a couple other changes). Finally, I have a fat guy to nominate!

I see most of you are nominating POTC:DMC for Best Original Screenplay rather than Adapted. Is that really fair? It's not a direct adaptation of a pre-existing text, but it's not entirely original either, given the attraction and the first film. Does anyone know the Academy's guidelines on this? (Not that they'd ever nominate POTC for a screenplay award anyways).

Wow, I totally forgot about SC3. I guess I do have a nomination for Best Fat Guy after all(although I still wouldn't mind it's absence this year). Maybe I'll also give it a Best Makeup nod or something.

In regards to POTC:DMC being "original", well, I'm not 100% sure how the academy labels(although, I'm pretty sure they label it "original") but after having done some research, several movies based on real events have gotten nominations for "Best Original Screenplay", including Dog Day Afternoon, Chariots of Fire, Gandhi, Nixon, Erin Brockovich, The Aviator, Hotel Rwanda, Good Night, and Good Luck, the list probably goes on, I just scanned the list of films that got nominated. Granted, some of these made up facts or were based soley on rumors, but considering it was based on an event that research was most likely involved, it would seem fair they should've been under "Adapted Screenplay".

Now, story elements here were from an actual source(a theme park attraction), but The Incredibles was nothing more but an adaptation(or "homage") to The Fantastic Four, but it got nominated for "Best Original Screenplay".

Considering Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio wrote the characters, most of the story-elements, as well as did writing for classic pirate legends as Davy Jones and The Kraken, I think it's fair we give it a nomination for Best Original Screenplay.

Your sequel statement is also interesting, though, but Star Wars won last year, so I feel the same can be done for Pirates.

Alright carry on. :D
