BURBANK, Calif., June 21, 2006 – For the first time ever, the animated, hilarious adventures of
that big blue, somewhat confused superhero “The Tick” will be available on DVD. The Tick vs.
Season One features The Tick and his hapless sidekick Arthur in the original animated series’
twelve sidesplitting episodes. A sly and comic satire of superheroes, “The Tick” features clever humor and
outrageous characters in the mold of such animated hits as “The Simpsons” and “King of the Hill.”
Available for U.S. $34.99 (SRP) and Canada $37.99 (SRP) on 2-disc DVD August 29, 2006 from
Buena Vista Home Entertainment.

In The Tick vs. Season One, fans are introduced to The Tick, a muscle-bound, good-natured and
hysterically perplexed superhero. Along with his sidekick Arthur, a one-time accountant who
wants to join the ranks of do-gooders, the Tick takes on all manner of riotously funny
supervillains, in a satire of superheroes that is loaded with jokes and pop culture references.
The Tick and Arthur’s super-allies include American Maid, Sewer Urchin, Die Fledermaus, the
Caped Chameleon and The Civic-Minded Five – and each have their own bizarre personality
traits and neuroses. The colorful bad guys include The Idea Men, The Breadmaster, El Seed,
The Uncommon Cold, and more.

The Tick vs. Season One features a voice cast of veteran voice-over talent, including Townsend
Coleman as The Tick, Micky Dolenz (TV’s “The Monkees”) as Arthur, Cam Clarke as Die
Fledermaus, Kay Lenz as American Maid, and Jess Harnell as Sewer Urchin. Guest stars
include Roddy McDowall as The Breadmaster, among others.

“The Tick” won two coveted animation “Annie” awards in 1997 for “Best Individual Achievement
In Creative Supervision” and “Best Individual Achievement For Writing.” The animated series
and its preceding comic book series would later inspire a live-action television show.

“The Tick” created by Ben Edlund.

YAY! :thumb:
Available for $34.99...
Booo! :(

There are tons of shows that are comparable, released at much lower prices... This is just 13 half-hour episodes of a cartoon...

Here are just some of the shows released at a lower price: Greg the Bunny, the live-action Tick, Speed Racer, etc.

littlefuzzy, if you go to your local Best Buy or Circuit City on the first day of the release of The Tick, Darkwing Duck and Tale Spin and it should cost about $29.99 each set.
Not to mention Desperate Housewives will probably cost $35 with a bonus disc.

August 26 will be a killer day for me because I'm getting The Tick: 10th Anniversary Edition , Darkwing Duck volume 1, Tale Spin Volume 1, Brother Bear 2 and Desperate Housewives Season 2
The Simpsons Season 11 Buy it Now!

Fox Sunday lineup:

8:00 The Simpsons
8:30 King of the Hill
9:00 Family Guy
9:30 American Dad

Actually, they'll probably cost closer to $24-$27 each. As pointed out in the initial post, "The Tick" can be preordered for as low as $26.13 right now. "Desperate", on the other hand will probably sell for around $39.99 with the most generous discounts. Still, the reason why littlefuzzy is (justifiably) upset (and others should be) is because the retail price for this 12-episode collection is the same ($34.99) as it is for sets holding more than twice as much like "TaleSpin", "DuckTales", "Darkwing Duck", and "Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers." It's odd too, that they're charging more for this 12-episode, 2-disc set than they did for the 13-episode, 2-disc set of "Gargoyles" that was the complete first season.

How come you get them three days before everyone else, Pals? Got some special Costco connections?

Yay! The press release uses the word "perplexed"

However, do we know this is the complete 1st Season? I see no running time but the press release says "twelve episodes"
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

I was wondering when this wonderful series was going to make it's Digital video debut. I hadn't even heard of the live-action series until that got on DVD in 2002/2003. But I remember watching this when I was about 11/12 on Saturday mornings on Fox! Kids.

I picked up Grey's Anatomy Season 1 for 14.99 from Best Buy, granted, it is only 9 episodes, but it is a current show, and the episodes are 1 hour long instead of 30 minutes...

There are only 36 episodes of The Tick, I believe... 13/13/10... Personally, I would have preferred a "Complete Series" box set, for 30-50 dollars...

According to tvshowsondvd.com this is not the complete 1st season. There were 13 1st season episodes but one cannot be included due to some legal issue.

If Disney plans on doing more tick sets, Maybe they could go the Spongebob Route for the missing episode (The first Spongebob Epsiode was omitted from the first Season set of that cartoon, for legal reasons not unlike what's going with the Tick, but Paramount was able to clear the rights and include it as a bonus on a later season)

I think they should just wait if Disney sees that coming. I hate it when episodes are out of order for season sets. Though I can't name a tv series that has done that to thier dvd yet.

Like Thundercats, the studio is making you pay top dollar based on The [animated] Tick's HUGE popularity.

I'm just wondering why do we not have the revised cover art? The Tick Vs. Season One. tvshowsondvd.com broke that story in very early June.

About the inconsistant Running times, i have a friend on Toon Zone who tells me that Many of the Fox Kids shows from the Tick's era lacked uniformity in their episode lengths, so the differences in running times could be chalked up to that.

While Someone would need to compare the DVD verisons to the original episode Runs to be absolutely certain, i don't that that the episodes are actually edited

I think the insert in The Tick vs. Season One that Luke is talking about looks like this.

Thought I'd share this.

A UK release for The Tick Season One is being put up by retailers. Interestingly it has a 286 minute running time. Couldn't help but notice this is 37 minutes longer than the R1 Buena Vista release. Could it possibly include all the episodes?
