What is Disney Princess Enchanted Tales?
The Princess Collection is taking a whole new turn-Disney is creating all new animation for Aurora and Belle. Sleeping Beauty is my favorite Disney Film, and I am so excited for this new animation. I think Aurora and Belle look wonderful. Luke has posted art from the new film, which can be seen here: http://www.ultimatedisney.com/comingsoon.html#sep06

While I'm not holding my breath for quality storytelling, I have to admit that the animation seen in those screencaps is rather impressive. Aurora looks amazingly on-model (except for the one screencap where she appears to be flipping out about something, but that's somewhat understandable). If I had to quibble about something, it would be the fact that Aurora should have a new wardrobe by now. Disney seems to think the Princesses wear the same clothing all year long. Besides that, though, I'm very much intrigued (and this gives me hope for Cinderella III looking much more like the original than Cinderella II did...).

maybe the next time there is a "Princesses all sing a new song together video" it'll actually be all new animation of them all together! that'd be really cool.

I too would like to see Aurora in some new threads! she's my favorite princess and sleeping beauty is my favorite disney film so this is awesome news. I wouldn't really want a sequel, but these short cutesie shorts are fine by me!

In the Disney Princess Stories, they used new animation or the one that they had from the original movies?

I don't know if it's just me, but I actually CAN'T see the screencaps!! There is a "Screencaps: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5" link, but when I press any of the numbers, the same site reappears, again and again and again!! What happens?? Is there no other way to see that screencaps?

It mentioned on the front page that these would be original stories, but I have my doubts on that score. The Aurora story sounds suspiciously like a story I read to my niece. I can't be sure if it's exactly the same, but the premise of the birthday surprise for Philip is definitely the same.

The links work. Turn off your pop-up blocker for this site. There are no pop-up ads here anyway.

Finally! People buying these Princess DVDs will actually get their money's worth. With the new princess video in the first sing-a-long songs, there was wonder of new animation. Alas, it was just a montage of clips of various Princess movies and various picture quality. Then we were promised new princess stories and alas were given shoddy screencaps of past animation. It would've been better to just show new illustrations a la Reading Rainbow.

Anyhow, the point is that it's so wonderful to see that Disney is finally doing things right with its very profitable Princess merchandise. I agree that the new animation looks great. Aurora looks just like her 1959 self (aside from the pose Kelvin mentions) and not the spoiled snob most merchandise makes her out to be. Though I don't think they could get the style to look just like the original. As with Bambi II, the advancements in animation make the sequels (or mini sequels in this case) look better in color quality and crispness, though they lose the natural look of the artist's touch. I shouldn't complain though because at least this DVD has new animation!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Based on their previous releases, there is A LOT of effort put into this new line of DVDs. It makes me wonder if they put as much effort in the animation into getting similar or ideally, exact voice actors. They did pretty good with getting the same attitude and personality for the new voice of Cinderella and Jodi Benson did a great job imitating Lady in Lady and the Tramp II. Do you think they got her to do Merryweather for this new story? Also, Kathyrn Beaumont still does Alice in various media...Mary Costa is still alive. Will she return to voice Aurora, or at least sing for her?

I shouldn't be excited since I'm not the target audience, but I am! Perhaps Disney may realize how marketable this would be to collectors and Disney fans outside of families with little girls. (crosses fingers that the DVD case isn't pink) Hopefully this takes over for Princess Stories and we'll get new animation for all the princesses. With the list of "Disney Princesses" growing, I hope we could get new Alice in Wonderland animation.

p.s. I think BrandonH is right. I remember seeing some new princess stories in a collection book and Aurura's story was about her throwing a party for something. She had a new costume too.

Disney Princess Fairy Tales-Screencaps of Aurora's Surprise

Post by Disney Duster »

I think this is wonderful news! I personally think Aurora only looks like herself in screencap number 3, with Flora, and actually in that screencap I think Flora looks a little off. But overall the animation looks good! The backgrounds even look nice. The colors and outlines of things aren't perfect(like Aurora's pink dress), but who cares, we have new hand-drawn animation! You know we have to be thankful that this wasn't CGI!

As for the storylines, it's very hard to ever come up with a completely original idea. These days, most "new" stories are just plotlines that are already known being twisted or embellished to create something new. Sometimes it's a story already told, just in a different way with different jokes or different views. It's not so much coming up with a new story anymore, but rather a new way of telling the story. So if you seem to have already heard some of the plots for these Princess Fairy Tales, just remember it can always be told in a different, entertaining way. Aren't these stories even going to have new songs?

This reminds me very much of how the Disney Magic cruise ship has a show called "Twice Charmed" about Cinderella's stepfamily using the help of their own fairy godfather to undo Cinderella marrying the prince, and that sounds a lot like "Cinderella III" which is about Cinderella's stepmother using the fairy godmother's wand to undo Cinderella's "happily ever after". See how those stories are practically the same but done in different ways?

We dont know for sure if Cinderella III will be done differently from the Twice Charmed show. From what I hear, it's gonna be exactly that plot.

Happier than I have being in a long time

OH MY GOD I WAS SO HAPPY WHEN I HEARD ABOUT THIS DVD!
I have loved Aurora my whole life, she has always being with me even when I was a baby and to see her return, even for a short 15 to 30 minute clip is fantastic. I had to slap myself I was so happy when I saw the new animation. Besides number 3 she looks like she hasn't changed since she was first animated in 1959. I can't wait for this DVD. It's going to be great!

For the most part, I assume that the cartoons will be quite dreadful. On the other hand, it is nice to see that at least some effort pertaining to orginality has been put into this new output, even if it is the slightest amount possible, as I am sure it will be.

I have wonderful news. Disney has opened up a small website for the new Princess Fairytales. Right now it only lets you view the trailer online, and says "more details coming soon". This volume seems to be called "Disney Princess Fairytales: a kingdom of Kindness". It does say that these DVD's are coming September 2007. I am hoping this is a typo, because I can't wait until 2007.

Actually they ARE, at least on Internet Explorer with no pop-up blockers enabled. If those don't work, then none of the cover art links must work for you either. Too bad. You should get that checked out!
