BURBANK, Calif., June 23, 2005 – It’s Disneyland Resort’s 50th anniversary on July 17, and to celebrate the magic, Buena Vista Home Entertainment introduces three outstanding new DVD releases that capture the spirit of the world-famous “happiest place on earth.”

VINTAGE MICKEY is a feature-length compilation of Mickey’s best black & white appearances. MICKEY MOUSE CLUB: THE BEST OF BRITNEY, JUSTIN, and CHRISTINA compiles the most entertaining episodes from the shows that featured the childhood performances of Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera. THE BEST OF THE ORIGINAL MICKEY MOUSE CLUB features many of the best episodes from the original TV show - one of the highest rated children’s shows in history - featuring the original Mouseketeers.

VINTAGE MICKEY is priced at $19.99 (S.R.P.) on DVD only. MICKEY MOUSE CLUB: THE BEST OF BRITNEY, JUSTIN, and CHRISTINA and THE BEST OF THE ORIGINAL MICKEY MOUSE CLUB are each priced at $14.99 (S.R.P.) on DVD only.

VINTAGE MICKEY

Discover this feature-length compilation of Mickey’s best black & white appearances! Mickey Mouse was Walt’s first superstar, and this feisty, fun-loving little character captured the world’s heart. With Mickey’s success, Disneyland and the Walt Disney World Resorts became possible – as did Walt’s classic animated feature films such as “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” Walt’s revolutionary use of Technicolor, the Wonderful World of Disney television show, and almost everything that Walt would build into his world-famous entertainment studio. Following are the short subjects included on this DVD:

STEAMBOAT WILLIE (1928)
The historic first Mickey Mouse cartoon that Walt released, and the first cartoon with synchronized sound. Mickey, Minnie and Pete are all introduced in an adventure on a river steamboat.

PLANE CRAZY (1928)
The first Mickey Mouse cartoon made, but the third one released, after sound was added. With the help of his farmyard friends, Mickey builds a plane and goes on a fun flight with Minnie, until a cow and a kiss complicate things.

THE KARNIVAL KID (1928)
The first Mickey Mouse cartoon in which Mickey speaks. Mickey sells hot dogs at an amusement park, where he serenades Minnie, who has a dance routine.

THE BIRTHDAY PARTY (1931)
Mickey is given a surprise party, and gets a piano as a gift. Mickey entertains his friends with an energetic musical number.

THE CASTAWAY (1931)
Mickey is adrift on a raft when he spots land, only to find it inhabited by unfriendly lions, gorillas and crocodiles.

MICKEY’S ORPHANS (1931)
A basket of kittens is left on Minnie’s doorstep at Christmas, and Mickey and Minnie charitably bring it inside. But they soon regret their action as the cats have a ball at the expense of Mickey’s house.

MICKEY’S REVUE (1932)
This historic short introduces the character who would become Goofy. Mickey performs in a musical comedy, which is interrupted when Pluto chases cats on the stage.

BUILDING A BUILDING (1933)
Mickey is a steam shovel operator on a construction job who buys a box lunch from Minnie. Pete attempts to run away with her but Mickey is in hot pursuit throughout the building. When a girder falls on Pete, Mickey and Minnie escape on her lunch wagon.

MICKEY’S STEAM ROLLER (1934)
Mickey leaves his nephews in a steamroller while he romantically pursues Minnie, but gets into trouble when the machine goes out of control.

Wow, It looks as if Disneyland USA, which in all honesty should have been on the Disneyland USA DVD (It makes sense, therefore that's why Disney didn't do it! ) will see a release! Yay! I think i will be getting Disneyland and the original Mickey Mouse Club DVDs. I am not wasting money on the Mickey set, I have both the treasures so I don't see the point and i don't particurlarly want to see Christina Slaguilera and Justin Timberhead dancing about.

I am looking forward most to the Disneyland DVD. Hopefully it's done as well it sounds like it will, and with less fluff (i.e. sing-alongs)

WOW! Thanks for the great news, Luke! I'm looking forward a lot to the Disneyland DVD. After watching the Magic Kingdom DVD, I look forward to a better documentary on the original park.

Do we know if the sing-a-long songs are the ones from Disneyland Fun? If so, that'd be awesome because that is a very good video and it would be nice to have some of them on DVD.

I will probably pass on buying these DVDs.

Occasionally, on the HDTV channel, they show a documentary on the making of Disneyland with secrets and stuff that most people dont know about the park. Does anyone know if this is the same thing?

I'm guessing it's not. :)

Interesting.

Since I never got either of Mickey's B&W Treasures, I'm glad to see another oppertunity to add Steamboat Willie and some of the others in that set to my collection, and will definately be getting Vintage Mickey at the very least. Possibly the Disneyland and original Mickey Mouse Club ones too, though I'll definately pass on the new MMC one. We'll have to see what content is on those and if it's something I'll watch a lot or not; I'm already looking forward to the UD review.

Thanks.

Personally, I think it only sounds okay...and why the heck would we want to spend $25 or more on DVDs showing pop stars before they hit it big in Mickey Mouse ears? I'm sorry, but I just think that's not a way to really celebrate...

The Mickey Mouse Club DVDs carry an SRP of $14.99, which means that you'll be able to see pop stars before they hit it big for about $10 upon release. It's $10.49 at Amazon. :P

(No need to apologize, though.)

Hmm.... I'm probably going to pass on all but one DVD set.

I'm interested in the Vintage Mickey only because I don't have the Treasures Set... and, odd enough, I don't want to get the Treasures Set.

*questions self*

But the Vintage Mickey DVD looks good and can't wait!

Here's more info on the documentary from Disney's own page:

Celebrate 50 remarkable years at the "happiest place on earth!" Featuring exclusive, never-before-seen footage, all-new interviews, and commentary by Walt Disney himself, this fascinating DVD is a keepsake you'll cherish for years to come. Following an introduction by Disney Legend Julie Andrews, go behind the scenes and visit key people who helped make Walt's dream a wonderful reality. Find out about the hilarious "bloopers" on opening day, hear and see outrageous ride ideas that didn't make the cut, and learn about the inspiration for magical attractions, such as The Haunted Mansion and Pirates Of The Caribbean. Discover more Disney secrets with a fun-filled trivia game, and enjoy all the classic Disneyland sing-along songs, such as "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" and "It's A Small World." "It has that thing -- the imagination, and the feeling of happy excitement -- I knew when I was a kid," said Walt Disney of his beloved theme park. Take a trip down Main Street, and enjoy that feeling all over again.

Introduction by Jullie Andrews!
