Heroes/Heroines Countdown
I've skimmed thru a bit of the voting.... Looks like people didn't think or dwell much on live action characters.
Also, here's an idea for a future countdown: duos.
Consider: Chip N Dale, Woody and Buzz, Robin Hood and Little John, Vincent and Old Bob, Timone and Pumba, Mike and Sully....

Life often leaves us standing bare, naked and dejected with a lost opportunity. Over the bleached bones and jumbled residues of numerous civilizations are written the pathetic words: "Too late."

Thanks to everyone who has sent in comments on their favorite heroes and heroines thus far. There's been some great writing! There's also plenty of characters who look like they'll make the cut and do not have any comments on them. So feel free to still submit comments to [email protected].
It'd be nice to have them in by the end of the week, assuming we start counting down the Top 25 Heroes and Top 25 Heroines next Monday. But that still leaves more time for the higher-ranking characters to have comments submitted. So if you only have time to write a few thoughts on one or a few characters, try to focus on those you think will make the cut but not at a very high ranking.

The countdown has launched here:
http://www.ultimatedisney.com/countdown5/
As you can see from the first 10 characters profiled, there was not an overwhelming number of comments submitted. To those of you who did submit comments, a hearty thank you! (This includes pinkrenata, who wrote paragraphs on a number of heroes and heroines.) To those who haven't, come on! You don't want to hear me ramble on about these characters, do you?
Anyway, there are still 40 characters to be profiled, so if you think someone might be coming up, do e-mail [email protected] with your brilliant insight and reflections as soon as humanly possible. Thank you!

Opening this thread up for feedback, comments, discussion, etc. Without the communication, it feels like a somewhat needless lot of work.
The 16th through 25th highest-voted heroes and heroines are now profiled here: http://www.ultimatedisney.com/countdown5/

I thought I had written comments for some characters who would be in the first set of characters listed, but boy was I off the mark! Again, I understimated the pull of animation... not that it's a bad thing, I just wish the live-action characters would get a little more respect. I'm a bit surprised by some of the choices and their ranks. It's still very nice to look at things like this that portray Disney as an intertwined body of works and family of characters. The descriptions have been very good, Luke. Sorry you had to write so many!

I'm still a little annoyed that Dumbo hasn't charted yet (and probably won't sadly). He's so cute and so underrated. But I think it's only fair that the fans who never knew that Disney made films prior to The Little Mermaid get their picks at number one; Tarzan is gonna swing in at the top!
Sorry about that Ernest Rister style outburst. I was just trying to make a point that I was disappointed by this abscence.
On the whole, though, this countdown is going fine. By the way, when are any of Miss Renata's comments popping up?

So far I'm disappointed! Violet and Alice are not heroines! Elastigirl was the heroine in The Incredibles not Violet, she's more of a side-kick! Alice did nothing but meet a bunch of idiots! I also thought Sully should've been ranked higher than Marlin since his love for Boo was much more relatable than Marlin's love for Nemo, and Sulley's situation was much more touching!

Firstly, heroin is actually spelt "heroine".Timon/Pumba fan wrote:So far I'm disappointed! Violet and Alice are not herions! Elastigirl was the herione in The Incredibles not Violet, she's more of a side-kick! Alice did nothing but meet a bunch of idiots!
Secondly, I think it's unfair to say that they aren't heroines because they don't have the exact traits of one. In Disney terms, a hero/heroine isn't somebody who is technically heroic; it's just a liberal term for the protaganist (the principal character[s]). Alice is the main character of her movie, and Violet, being part of the principal family, is a main character. Disney uses terms liberally (I mean, are Mulan, Tinkerbell and Marie from The Aristocats princesses like they are advertised as in the Disney store?). Therefore, just translate the word "hero/heroine" as protaganists and you'll be fine.

Well what would you like better, some one who's a heroine just because or somebody who does something heroic! Also for the Dumbo comment, Dumbo wasn't the hero in the movie, Timothy Mouse was. He was the one that brought Dumbo and his mom back together and helped Dumbo with his circus act!Wonderlicious wrote:Firstly, heroin is actually spelt "heroine".Timon/Pumba fan wrote:So far I'm disappointed!
Well she's more side kick than heroine. And considering that we're having a Disney Side Kick countdown next time I would just put her in the side kick list instead.Dan05 wrote:How is Violet not a Heroine? She's more of a heroine than Elastigirl is. Afterall, she did save her family when they were all trapped.
