I'll take the information with a pinch of salt for two reasons -

1) Schedules often change unexpectedly

2) It's basically published on a site that reports rumours (some well researched and checked as much as they are able to be - but originating in rumours none the less).

3) Notice NO March 2004 Platinum Release :)

Yeah, taking with a pinch of salt, but still looks good.
Springtime with Roo!! Woohoo! More Pooh!

The most worrying part for me is that there are only about 1/2 a dozen titles I won't be buying :D

This stuff is worse than heroin...

09/09/03 Sleeping Beauty
10/07/03 The Lion King - Platinum Edition
11/04/03 Finding Nemo

11/18/03 Brother Bear Sing-Along-Song - rental
12/02/03 Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
12/02/03 Walt Disney Treasures, Wave 3

01/27/04 Pocahontas - Special Edition
01/27/04 Alice in Wonderland - Special Edition
01/27/04 Lilo & Stitch - Special Edition
02/13/04 Lion King 1 1/2

10/05/04 Aladdin - Special Edition
11/09/04 Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas - rental
:D Count me in for purchases (or rentals where marketed) of all of these! Hopefully the Pocahontas SE features a new SE cut of the film with If I Never Knew You restored as well as the theatrical cut via seamless branhing. If any movie in Disney's library needs a special edition, Pocahontas is it. They shouwed the If I Never Knew You sequence during a commercial break in a Wonderful World of Disney presentation of the film and it is easily the best scene (save MAYBE Colors of the Wind.) It was cut because the idiot kids in the test audiences found it boring. At the veery least I hope it's included as a deleted scene but I really want to see it back in the movie.

Nice to hear final confirmation on the double-disc Lilo & Stitch, too. I'll gladly double-dip. As for Pocahontas, Mary Poppins, and Alice in Wonderland, I never got the Gold Collection releases, so I'll just wait it out. If the less-than-exellently-regarded Pocahontas is getting a special edition, there's still hope for the double-disc Deluxe Edition of The Hunchback of Notre Dame that we were teased with. :)

That puts Finding Nemo day-and-date with Indiana Jokes - eek, this will be expensive!

It is odd, however, that both Holes and March's Platinum are not here. I'm still hoping this is legit and I haven't any reason to doubt that. And it seems Brother Bear will be taking a little faster turnaround to video than Treasure Planet did. I hope it doesn't affect the general public's wanting to see this in theaters, because WDFA needs a hit -- and a non-CG hit, too, to prove once and for all that 2D is not dead. Anyway, rant coming on, so I'll shut up now.

Ok you've forced me into it. These are the ones I'll more than likely get:

07/01/03 Gangs of New York
07/29/03 Piglet's Big Movie
08/26/03 Stitch! The Movie
10/07/03 The Lion King - Platinum Edition
11/04/03 Finding Nemo
12/02/03 Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (if it is good)
12/02/03 Walt Disney Treasures, Wave 3

01/27/04 Pocahontas - Special Edition (if it is very special, already have R4 version with deleted scene)
01/27/04 Alice in Wonderland - Special Edition (see above)
01/27/04 Lilo & Stitch - Special Edition (if the 2 disc, ooooohhhhh yeaaaah)
02/13/04 Lion King 1 1/2 (3 is not enough!!!)
02/24/04 Winnie the Pooh: Springtime with Roo (Pooh! Well, duh....)
03/30/04 Brother Bear
04/20/04 Haunted Mansion (we'll see)
06/01/04 Pocahontas II - Special Edition (Depends on what is so special)
08/03/04 Mickey's 3 Musketeers (sounds interesting. Tell me more!)
08/17/04 Mary Poppins - Special Edition (Yeah, I'll hold out for this)
08/31/04 The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride - Special Edition (Finally!)
09/14/04 Mulan 2 (Ugh, but probably...)
10/05/04 Aladdin - Special Edition (Need I say more!)
11/09/04 Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas (Haven't got the first, but why not? It's the mouse!)

November is going to be very expensive this yeat if the list is right. Two Towers SE, Indiana Jones Box AND Finding Nemo. Might have to write to Santa....

The Pocahontas "If I Never Knew You" is included on the UK release of the DVD, as well as a number of other supplements (A television "Making of", "Character Design featurette", "Music of Pocahontas featurette", "Colours of the Wind Multi-Language Reel") so hopefully it's a dead cert for the "Special Edition". I wouldn't be surprised if the "Special Edition" ended up being the UK edition.

Hopefully the "Alice In Wonderland" "Special Edition" will contain the full "One Hour In Wonderland" TV Special. IMDB.Listing I assume Disney hold it in their archive, as clips from the show have appeared on various discs over the years.

I wouldn't assume however, that all the "Special Edition" releases listed will be 2 disc sets.

I fear it will have an affect on the film's box office. I wonder, do we really need this "instant gratification" DVD release so soon?

On a final note: Look's like the last half of 2004 is going to be good for Pete releases - I expect Pete to be the one of the villains in "Mickey's 3 Musketeers" and to make one or two appearances in "Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas". :)

It's obviously incomplete (Holes, Santa Clause 2, Freaky Fridays noticeably missing right off the bat), and it may very well be rumor at this point, but it's very interesting and somewhat enlightening nonetheless.

Thanks for posting it!

There are many interesting Discs in that list. I hope the Special Editions will all be 2 Disc Sets with all features from the LDs and even more...

I also hope that the Sleeping Beauty Release in September will be labeled as a Platinum Editon.

I would buy:

07/01/03 Gangs of New York
08/19/03 Chicago
09/09/03 Sleeping Beauty
10/07/03 The Lion King - Platinum Edition
11/04/03 Finding Nemo same date as INDY!! an expensive november...
12/02/03 Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
12/02/03 Walt Disney Treasures, Wave 3 (groovy )
01/27/04 Pocahontas - Special Edition
01/27/04 Alice in Wonderland - Special Edition
01/27/04 Lilo & Stitch - Special Edition (i hate disney for announcing that because i finally bought the 1 Disc version but I will order the 2 DVD Version, too. )
03/30/04 Brother Bear
08/17/04 Mary Poppins - Special Edition
09/14/04 Mulan 2 (I don't need part 2 but a Special Edition of the original would be cool)
10/05/04 Aladdin - Special Edition

I saw the artwork and storyboards for 3 Muskateers two days ago and it looks absolutely amazing!! There is still a chance that it may end up being a theatrical release -- the art is that good and the story seems to work great. Your assumption about Pete is correct. He plays the captian of the guard and is the top henchman in conspiring to take down Queen Minnie.

The next Winnie installment also looks to be something special. The non WDFA department that is working on all of these projects, like Lion King 1 1/2 and Mulan 2 are doing an amazing job. None of the projects on the horizon appear to suffer from the dismal sequals we have been accustomed to receiving. The bar has been raised significantly in every aspect. It will be fun to watch.

Defintely gonna get "Alice In Wonderland" Special Edition, there's so much they can do with that set. I hope its a 2 disc set.

As 2099net said I bet the "Pocahontas" Special Edition is the same version as we've got here in the UK, its got quite a lot for a one disc release so it shouldn't dissapoint.

Strange "Aladdin" is listed as a Special Edition instead of a Platinum Collection, so I'm taking this with a pinch of salt.
Dust? Anyone? No?

I hope Pocahontas will have a new transfer.. The video quality of the Gold Collection is absolutely disappointing... How great is the chance to get 2 disc sets??

Lets hope that the DVDs are for people who are interested in animation and not so much for kids (like the UK Special Edition of Pinocchio for exapmle)

I'm posotive Pocahontas will recieve, at the very least, a new anamorphic transfer, possibly restored. Remember that a while back the group that restored Snow White announced they were working on Mary Poppins and a few other movies for Disney which they couldn't disclose at the time. I'm assuming those were Pocahontas and Alice in Wonderland, if not more. Suddenly makes sense why they chose to give away those in the Buy 3 Get 1 Free offer. I wonder if this means we'll possibly see a "Hercules" special edition down the road too?

Anyway, Pocahontas should at leasst get a new 16x9 transfer as well as all of the extras from the R1 Gold DVD and UK edition. I'd also it to get all of the extras from the laserdis and a commentary track, as well as two versions of the film: a new Special Edition recut featuring the already-completed If I Never Knew You song sequence, and the theatrical cut via seamless branching.

And Matty-Mouse - Aladdin will be both special and Platinum. A la Beauty and the Beast, it will have a new sequence in it for the IMAX and DVD, and that cut will be refered to as the Special Edition cut. However, it will still be branded under the Platinum label.

DVD's I'm definately buying are in bold. Others are undecided, based on the features to be included, or on the fact that I haven't seen the movie yet...except for Finding Nemo.

08/12/03 The Lizzie McGuire Movie
09/02/03 Kim Possible
09/09/03 Sleeping Beauty
10/07/03 The Lion King - Platinum Edition
10/21/03 George of the Jungle 2
11/04/03 Finding Nemo
12/09/03 Lizzie TV Series
01/27/04 Pocahontas - Special Edition
01/27/04 Lilo & Stitch - Special Edition
08/17/04 Mary Poppins - Special Edition
10/05/04 Aladdin - Special Edition

I will get Pocahantas - ONLY if it is remastered, as I heard the current transfer is bad. I really hope that Poppins will be remastered (16x9) as well, and I heard it is going to be, but we shall see. I will probably purchase it anyway, but I really do hope it is remastered. I may rent George of the Jungle first, or I may read some reviews, then purchase. If the Lizzie TV series is a "best-of" set, I will not purchase. Haven't seen the movie yet, but it looks to be good, from what I've seen and heard, so it will probably be a purchse.

There are some movies that were obviously left out. And some mislabeled.

Pocahontas 2 and Lion King 2 do not deserve Special Editions. But I am excited about most of the other news, I hope that the Special Editions for Alice, Mary Poppins, and Pocahontas are 2-Disc.

Alright, since everyone else is doing it. These are the ones that interest me as must-buys...

September 2003
09/02/03 Kim Possible: The Secret Files (maybe, if I find it cheap)
09/09/03 Sleeping Beauty

October 2003
10/07/03 The Lion King - Platinum Edition (of course, though I'm almost certainly going for the Gift Set)

November 2003
11/04/03 Finding Nemo (Pixar rocks!)

December 2003
12/09/03 Lizzie TV Series (if it's a complete first season, count me in. If they pull some crappy Best-Of, I might go ahead and buy the first volume or two from the UK. There seems to have been a huge drop in quality from the first episodes to the more recent ones. In any event, I'd much rather have "Even Stevens" released on DVD!)

January 2004
All three of these will probably merit an upgrade. If they're confirmed and they sound good, hi-ho, hi-ho it's off to eBay I go (with the original discs, of course)
01/27/04 Pocahontas - Special Edition
01/27/04 Alice in Wonderland - Special Edition
01/27/04 Lilo & Stitch - Special Edition

February 2004
02/13/04 Lion King 1 1/2 - maybe, I love TLK, and this one sounds somewhat interesting. Like most DTV features, it should be had for a low price on the web not too long after release
02/24/04 Winnie the Pooh: Springtime with Roo - a Pooh nut so this (and Piglet's Movie are maybes), but I'd rather be getting the New Adventures episodes like they are elsewhere

March 2004
03/30/04 Brother Bear - probably will get this at some point

August 2004
08/17/04 Mary Poppins - Special Edition - another to eBay and upgrade
08/31/04 The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride - Special Edition - and yet another to eBay and upgrade

October 2004
10/05/04 Aladdin - Platinum Edition (duh!)

November 2004
11/09/04 Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas - Disney + Christmas are two things I like and I enjoyed the '99 one, so this is a maybe. Haven't picked up Mickey's Magical Christmas yet, though.

MY MUST-BUYS

09/09/03 Sleeping Beauty - A great film that I have not seen in a long, long time. I shall definitely buy this one in its first week.

10/07/03 The Lion King - Platinum Edition - Platinum Edition = No-brainer.

11/04/03 Finding Nemo - I really, really hope the DVD is done in the style of the Monsters, Inc. DVD. I can already tell the movie will be great.

12/02/03 Walt Disney Treasures, Wave 3 - This is the most anticipated release on the list. I will buy this the day they are out (this wave looks like it will sell out quickly!)

01/27/04 Pocahontas - Special Edition
01/27/04 Alice in Wonderland - Special Edition
01/27/04 Lilo & Stitch - Special Edition - Assuming these three are actually *real* Special Editions, I will buy these. I am glad I did not buy the previous releases.

03/30/04 Brother Bear - Assuming that they don't release a 2-Disc, I would get the first release (ala Treasure Planet).

08/03/04 Mickey's 3 Musketeers - This sounds interesting. I will definitely give this a rent, a buy is possible if it's good.

08/17/04 Mary Poppins - Special Edition - Ditto on the Special Edition thing above.

10/05/04 Aladdin - Special Edition - Of course I will get this. I have not seen Aladdin in a long time. I can't wait for this Platinum Edition.

11/09/04 Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas - I'll give it a rent.

The rest of the stuff looks like bad to me. Where is a Holes release?

PS Why is everyone wanting a March Platinum? Maybe Sleeping Beauty is it, it just comes out earlier. I sure as heck don't want a rushed release for March. Plus, with all the Special Editions in January, I see no reason to complain.

Well, I don't know how rushed it would be. It's now May, so they'll have around 8 months til press time which I think is plenty of time to put together a quality Platinum Edition. It doesn't take that long to put together a nice commentary and documentary in addition to whatever they have for whatever title.

But the real reason is Disney said beginning next year, they'd have a March Platinum release. That's why. Though, if we truly ARE getting 3 2-disc Special Editions in January, I'd be thrilled. It's not unthinkable to get all that and more. Look at the four 2-disc Special Editions Warner put out last fall and now more this summer.
