ISLAND OF ADVENTURES

A Revolutionary NEW DVD GAME That Takes You Inside The World of Disney’s Animated Hit “Lilo & Stitch”

Disney’s Immersive DVD Adventure and Game Available on November 11

BURBANK, Calif., August 6, 2003 – It’s more than a game, it’s an entertainment experience you don’t just watch, you play! Presenting Disney’s revolutionary new LILO & STITCH’S ISLAND OF ADVENTURES, a DVD that combines the movie experience and the phenomenal resources of a DVD with the traditional fun of a classic board game to create a whole new world of excitement. LILO & STITCH’S ISLAND OF ADVENTURES includes a DVD with almost 60 minutes of all-new Lilo & Stitch adventures, and a revolutionary new DVD game that takes you inside the world of Lilo & Stitch - it continues the story of your favorite Disney Movie and expands the Home Entertainment Experience on DVD. LILO & STITCH’S ISLAND OF ADVENTURE is available on November 11 from Walt Disney Home Entertainment. Available for $29.99 (S.R.P.).

The family room will come to life as this unique immersive DVD experience puts family viewers in a new “Lilo & Stitch” story. Players interact with favorite and new characters from Disney’s beloved “Lilo & Stitch” animated film. They’ll race around the game board in a quest to capture Stitch’s lost cousins, while playing dynamic on-screen games, singing, dancing and having fun. Get ready for an all-new, magical experience, because you’ve never played your DVD like this before.
LILO & STITCH’S ISLAND OF ADVENTURE is a Disney first. The DVD works in conjunction with the board game to give players randomized choices that allow unpredictable game play, so families can play over and over again without repetition.

“Lilo & Stitch” director Chris Sanders says “This exciting game will sweep you away to Hawaii, straight into the world of Lilo and Stitch.” Director Dean DeBlois adds, “What a great concept – I think it’s a great way for everyone to experience Lilo and Stitch in a brand new way. It’s so much fun.” Producer Clark Spencer says, “It’s like our characters have gone off on their own adventure. The great thing is you can play the game over and over, and it’s different each time.”

There are no lost dice in LILO & STITCH’S ISLAND OF ADVENTURE. Players use their remote control to spin the onscreen spinner and advance along the playing board.

LILO & STITCH’S ISLAND OF ADVENTURE features original music and Dolby® Digital 5.1 Surround Sound, to bring the lush, tropical sights and sounds of the Hawaiian Islands right into the family room. Full of laugh-out-loud humor, action-packed adventure and irresistible characters, families will play games, overcome natural disasters, receive surprise visits from special guests and even do the hula as they travel through Stitch’s Hawaii.

In LILO & STITCH’S ISLAND OF ADVENTURE, Stitch’s fellow experiments have been accidentally freed and are wreaking havoc in Hawaii! Lilo has set out after them but she can’t capture them all by herself, and if Nani finds out what happened, she’s in big trouble. Luckily, David (your narrator) knows the path she took and is sending YOU and your fellow players after Lilo to help her collect the experiments. You’ll experience the sights and sounds of the island and receive surprise visits from special guests, who may help (or hinder) your progress as you race to the finish line. Crossing the finish line first doesn’t guarantee victory. You must collect the most experiments to win, but don’t let Nani find out!

hmmm....

So the logical questions are:

Where is it stocked?
Who is the target market?
Is $29.99 too high for kids?
Is $29.99 too high for a DVD?
Why do this and games for the PC and consoles?

If this works...are we going to be inundated with stand-alone DVD games?

A DVD made soley for a game... Yeah. Not going to buy this, and I hope it doesn't sell. People buying a Lilo and Stitch movie and getting a game will be disappointed. And if it sells well this stuff could continue.

As strange as this sounds, even I don't think I'll be picking this one up.

it sounds similar to the VHS/board game phenomenon that swept the nation back in the early 90s. There was a game called 'Nightmare' where you followed the video with an actual playing board. Mind you with VHS, the tape always played the same so you got bored after a while. At least DVD has the advantage of giving you MORE than one game...but still. It does seem like a wasted concept.
A bonus feature at best.

Anyways, I'll reserve too much judgment until it is actually on the shelves...

To be honest, I think the idea's cute, but 29.99 is much too high for a DVD game. Will I buy this? No, but I'm still curious about it and would actually like to play it to see what it's like. Also, I don't see what harm Disney DVD games would cause. Actually, I'd prefer Disney would do this than fill up their movie DVD's with stupid games (which seems to be the case with Finding Nemo).

Well, the SRP is $29.99...so that means it will be around $19.99 at most opening week.

The design of the game sounds similar to this game:

<a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... ZZZZZZ.jpg[/img]
Scene It?

That retails for $49.99 and though I've been interested, it sounds too limited to pursue. But that's a movie game, and this is more of a board game.

I don't know - it seems like John Heard's character from "Big" would raise his hand at this point and say "You think kids are going to shell out $20 for a board game?" and then the Disney executives would try to explain that it's much more than that, interactive, and what have you.

I think I like Josh's interactive comic book idea better, though.[/img]

I've seen that game in stores before, too, but 1. its price was somewhat steep and 2. like you said, it'd get old after a while unless they release more DVD's like how Disney released more card packs for their Wonderful World of Disney Trivia Game.

Another problem with that game is that they only have clips from certain studios, and of course, Disney is NOT one of them.

The only DVD game I have is Dragon's Lair, which is just like the classic video game. I was a big fan of that game, as many folks were when it came out, so I had to have the disc. It plays just like the arcade game only you have to use your remote to play it, of course.
