BURBANK, Calif., June 9, 2003 – Walt Disney Home Entertainment presents, in association with Walden Media, Disney’s HOLES, the $62M box office hit, on Disney DVD and VHS on September 23. A fun, stirring adventure and poignant family film, HOLES is based on the best-selling, Newberry award-winning book by Louis Sachar. Directed by Andrew Davis, from a screenplay by Louis Sachar. Produced by Mike Medavoy, Andrew Davis, Teresa Tucker-Davies and Lowell Blank. Executive produced by Marty Ewing and Louis Phillips.

On Disney DVD, HOLES will include a gag reel, deleted scenes, cast and filmmaker commentaries, music video, special “behind-the-scenes” features and more. HOLES is available on DVD for $29.99 (S.R.P.) and on VHS for $22.99 (S.R.P.).

Stanley Yelnats (Shia LaBeouf, Disney Channel’s “Even Stevens”) is an unusual young hero dogged by bad luck stemming from an ancient family curse. Stanley has little clue that he’s in for the adventure of his life when sent to Camp Green Lake, where he and his campmates - Squid, Armpit, ZigZag, Magnet, X-Ray, and Zero – are mysteriously forced by the camp’s director, known only as “The Warden” (Sigourney Weaver, “Tadpole,” “Galaxy Quest”), and her right-hand men Mr. Sir (Jon Voight, “Ali,” “Midnight Cowboy”) and Dr. Pendanski (Tim Blake Nelson, “O Brother Where Art Thou”), to dig holes in order “to build character.” Through it all, Stanley and his campmates must stick together as they attempt to discover what’s really hidden in the desert.

Already hailed as a classic, Louis Sachar’s novel Holes has been published in nearly 30 countries spanning North and South America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, and has received over 25 accolades, most notably the 1999 Newbery Medal for Best Children’s and Young Adult Fiction, the Boston Globe Horn Book Award, and the 1998 National Book Award for Young People’s Literature. In a recent poll by Read magazine of the most popular books among children, Holes ranked #1 – beating even Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.

Holes

Post by goofystitch »

I loved this movie. It was one of my favorite books, and Disney stayed true to it. You can't not love holes. Shia LaBeouf (Even Stevens) Is actually a good actor and is capable of bringing out more emotions than just silliness on the show.

Nevermind, I went to the home page and saw it there. Do we know what any of the scenes are about?

Meeting Mr. Sir
The Second Hole is the Hardest
Stanley Takes the Stand
D-Tent Backup
Letter for Stanley
Stanley's Accident & The Warden's Pitchfork*

Hmm... I was hoping more for something from the old Green Lake with Sam and Kate, they were such a great couple!

*In the book, didn't the Warden poke Stanley or someone else with it and he starts to bleed?

GOsh, I want this movie sooo bad. I wish I could get it early. I'm going to use it in a sermon one day. Great story plot. SO good in fact that I got the book and will read it once I am finished with this other one I have been reading.

:) That's awesome. I don't know how you would put Holes in a sermon... I loved it though.

Well, i did a sermon around Dr Suess on SUnday. Chruch loved it; but wanted me to go all out and actually rhyme it if i could. I just use certain themes in books and movies and work it throughout the sermon text. Holes has a lot...digging holes and building character, digging holes and getting nowhere...I could go a lot of places with that.

I don't get why you post certain things, Starion. Like did you not notice I posted those same two menu shots like 3 weeks ago? Do you ever check the main section of the site? Just curious.

Heck, one of them is posted in this very thread. :?

I think I may have missed the menu shots you posted three weeks ago. I tried looking for the menu shots, but I couldn't find them. I checked the Live Action 1980 - present page, but I didn't see a l ink to the menus. I even did a search for holes and menu on the forum, but I didn't see any results.

No harm done or anything, it's just that I notice you often post links to sites that say the same thing we said months ago. It's just kind of frustrating to think that not only are more people visiting these other sites than mine, but that even my most active posters are...;)

I still don't know how you could have missed the menu shot posted above. :)

We've just watched this (thankfully pre-screening it before my daughter saw it) and I must say I think this should have been Disney's first PG-13 movie.

We enjoyed it - it was somewhat bizzare in places, but more or less made sense in the end. A sort of "Memento Light" if you like. It certainly will get a second viewing, and the director and screenwriter commentary sounds like it may be good.

However, it is most definitely inappropriate for an almost seven year old girl. It is quite violent in places, and I must say I am surprised this slipped under the "Disney Family Radar".

I have no problem with the story or the scenes in principle - I always think that you should make villains stronger (so the heroes become bigger) and that if violence is shown, so should the concequences (to a certain extent). But I think labeling this as a Disney film is wrong.

I would have thought this would be an ideal Touchstone release. Isn't that what they set the studio up for in the first place (although I hear no further Touchstone releases will be made, for some strange reason).

Discuss.
