THE SEQUEL TO DISNEY’S SPECTACULAR ANIMATED ADVENTURE

TARZAN® II

ALL-NEW FILM PREMIERES ONLY ON DISNEY DVD

FEATURING TWO NEW SONGS BY OSCAR-WINNER® PHIL COLLINS,
NEW FRIENDS AND FAVORITE CHARACTERS,
AND FUN DVD BONUS MATERIALS

Available June 14, 2005

BURBANK, Calif., February 11, 2005 – Experience the beginnings of the legend in the
all-new movie TARZAN® II, the sequel to Disney’s animated classic “Tarzan®.” This
exciting adventure, from the creators of Disney’s “Tarzan” and approved by creator
Edgar Rice Burroughs’s estate, takes place when Tarzan is just a kid “going ape”
alongside his good buddies Terk the ape and Tantor the elephant. Phil Collins won an
Academy Award® for “Tarzan” (Best Original Song “You’ll Be In My Heart” 1999) and
he delivers two powerful, original songs to this new sequel. Famed comedian George
Carlin (“Jersey Girl”) joins a talented vocal cast that includes Glenn Close (“101
Dalmatians”) and Lance Henricksen (“Tarzan”), who both return from “Tarzan,”
alongside new voices Brad Garrett (TV’s “Everybody Loves Raymond”), Ron Perlman
(“Hellboy”) and Estelle Harris (TV’s “Seinfeld”).

TARZAN II is a DisneyToon Studios production. Produced by Carolyn Bates and directed by
Brian Smith. Based on the “Tarzan” stories created by Edgar Rice Burroughs. TARZAN II
premieres on DVD on June 14, 2005. Available on Disney DVD for $29.99 (S.R.P.).

TARZAN II is the “untold chapter” of Tarzan’s youth. As a child, Tarzan (Harrison Chad,
“Dora the Explorer”) feels like the worst ape ever. Kala (Glenn Close) reassures him that his
differences will one day be his strengths, but these very differences cause an accident that leaves
Kala injured, and Tarzan missing and presumed dead by the rest of the tribe. Convinced that
everyone would be better off without him, Tarzan sets off to find his place in the world.

A dramatic encounter with an outcast family of gorillas - Mama Gunda (Estelle Harris) and her
brutish sons Kago (Ron Perlman) and Uto (Brad Garrett) - sends Tarzan up to Dark Mountain.
There, he uncovers the myth of the dreaded Zugor, a legendary monster who turns out to be
nothing more than a cranky old hermit ape (George Carlin). Zugor starts out as Tarzan’s
reluctant mentor but soon becomes his great friend. With Zugor’s help, Tarzan is able to find his
own set of remarkable jungle skills and learns that even though he’s not an ape, he’s something
much more amazing and wonderful – he’s a Tarzan!

TARZAN II DVD BONUS FEATURES

• GORILLA GRUMBLE
A fun game where you keep the bumbling rogue gorillas Kago and Uto poking at each
other while you rescue Tantor.

• TERK AND TANTOR’S JUNGLE GUIDE
Click on jungle animals to hear Tantor and Terk’s explanations. The narrator is also on
hand to make sure you get the correct information.

• THE LEGACY OF TARZAN
“The Making of Tarzan II” – learn how the original movie influenced TARZAN II and
how Phil Collins developed new music for the film.

• TIFFANY EVANS MUSIC VIDEO

• TARZAN’S MATTER-OF-FACTS
Edgar Rice Burroughs, creator of Tarzan, came up with an ape language. You can watch
the movie in this “Matter-Of-Fact” mode and watch pop-ups explain the language (and

Thanks for posting, pinkrenata! As expected, the bonus features look really light - lets hope that making-of is better than that 2-minute peice Mulan II had. Any word on who's voicing Tarzan this time around? It can't be Alex D. Linz, cuz he's he went through puberty since Tarzan (the origional).

This is great news for Tarzan fans. Also it's great that Disney has talent voice actors for the sequel like Ron Perlman and Brad Garrett.
I hope I'm not the only one picking up this midsequel.

Well I'm a bit unsure about this one to be honest, I mean it's only a couple of months until it's release and we know more about Lilo and Stitch 2 and Bambi and the Great Prince of the Forest than we do about this!
We've only seen that one screen cap which did look good, but how much can you tell from one pic?

The bonus features seem to be a bit of a step back from what we have seen with Lion King 2 and Lion King 3, and seem more along the lines of the stuff that was included on DVDs like Cinderella II.

Tarzan and his monkey friends

Okay, let me just say one thing here. They've sure announced a lot of Cheapquels for this year. Bambi, Stitch, Tarzan, Mulan...well why in heck did they shelve the Dumbo cheapquel? At least the documentary on that film looked like it was going to be an entertaining film. So if they're SO in the market for doing these flicks, why didn't they just leave it in production?

Hmm, creators of the original "Tarzan"? Well, considering Andreas Deja is working on "Bambi 2", I wouldn't be surprised if some animators from the first film actually worked on this.
The funny thing is that I remember the filmmakers saying on the first film's audio commentary that they would never work on a sequel to "Tarzan"... I wonder if Disney is going to erase that line when the DVD is re-released hehe.

Well, just another unnecessary cheapquel to cash in on the original film.

Ok, sequel lovers can start their rant now.
Just kidding. :P

I recently bough The Lion King sequels, the Aladdin sequels and the Mulan sequel but I'm not feeling this one but that could be because Tarzan is the last Disney classic I have yet to see. :(

BLAH to the new sequels! You know what they really should be attempting IF they MUST make sequels. Try a DuckTales movie sequel... see if that works and bring back Gargoyles for a new movie!

I love "Tarzan". Though I'm not sure if the story will work as well without Jane. Those were my most favorite parts of the film.

I agree, or they could make a Gummi Bears movie and introduce them to a whole new generation!

Yeah I am defintley on the same plain with RJKD23. I am just not sure about this movie I was expecting a real sequal picking off where the first Disney movie left off or maybe its becasue it sounds so much like the Bambi one coming out. I am not sure but anyway thanks for posting the press realese.

Well let's not down the voice of Tarzan in the sequal because he is in a preschool show. Steve from Blue's Clues went on to be in an episode of a popular drama (Law and Order, I think) and played a drug addicted man and got a lot of good reviews for it.
Cree Summer does the voice of Cleo on Clifford the Big Red Dog and Kim in Care Bears. Just TWO voice credits out of nearly 100 and she is very talented!

Throwing away the idea of this movie because an actor comes from Dora the Explorer isn't well founded.

Now throwing it away because the story sounds bad, good reason.

Beating the Cheapquels

Post by Owlzindabarn »

I've found a sure-fire solution for not being tempted to buy cheapquels!!! All you have to do is ignore them the day they come out. And wait a year. A whole year. If you still want it by the end of that year, then go ahead and buy it. Chances are, you will not. That way you won't end up with junk in your collection like Atlantis Returns, Mickey's House of Villains, Tarzan and Jane...anybody want to buy my dvds of those stinkers?

Oh come on reyquila, stop with the money thing... People that don't buy them have money enough, but just don't buy them because they have an opinion about sequels or just principles... There may be a small part that don't buy them because of the money, but that's a very small part.

Anyway... Tarzan II's plot seems very adultish to me actually. I don't see why everyone has something against the plot? I think it's very original! Altough I hope the whole movie isn't away from Kerchak and Kala... The new characters will probably be less developed (because of the small budget). But I have hope for this movie, a lot of hope.
