Look at the bright side though, you will get to see World of Color, and you will just miss even more construction walls as the main entrance closes late this year for its big re-do.

The Little Mermaid Ride opens Spring 2011.
Well that certainly stinks. It also looks like most if not all of Frontierland is shut down as well which is not good as Disneyland is certainly not as big as Walt Disney World. I may have to actually consider getting tickets to Universal Studios so that I can fill up my time there.

Rivers of America will reopen May 7th, with a newly enhanced theme. Unfortunatley, the superior Fantasmic will not be back until late May.

If you are just coming to CA for a few days, it should not be a problem. Consider that Disneyland does have the most attractions than any other Disney park on the planet.

That's most of my trip there. We get in on the 4th and we leave on the 9th so I won't get much of a chance to see it. Hopefully I can get through it on Saturday.

Does anyone know how busy a Saturday in May would be?

World of Color is obviously the topic on most everyone’s mind. The most rabid fans will get a better look at that snazzy new custom-built viewing area this Friday when the construction walls are finally removed. You won’t be allowed to stroll through the terraced viewing area this Friday however, as barricades staffed by perky DCA “Ambassadors” will be placed along the edges of the new park. But with the walls down, it will give Paradise Pier a much more open look while allowing the Imagineers to finish up the final details on this rather handsome looking area.

According to Screamscape sources, a mid-May Soft-Opening for the new World of Color show is primarily a pipe-dream from the Operations side of things, who would love to have a few weeks in advance of the busy Summer crowds in order to work out just how they are going to handle the big crowd control problems.
I’m told that the show has been making test runs, but many items are still being tested, tweaked, fixed and adjusted in the forever long process to perfect the show on a technical level. Any kind of public performance in mid-May is said to be highly unlikely, and there is little chance of Disney doing a soft-opening in late May around the busy Memorial Day weekend. The most likely time for a soft-opening is early June, while the local public schools are still in and just before the media event on June 10th. The general public showing however wont happen until June 11th.
How is the show? We’ve seen videos shot from afar, but according to the lucky few who have seen test runs in person… it is quite amazing and should really wow the guests.

Amy, do you know how the water screens work? Is there just a screen behind the water, or is the picture achieved in a different way?

To be honest, it looks a little underwhelming to me, at least through the video clips (and boy is that soundtrack ANNOYING), but I have a feeling the show would be pretty impressive in person.

Nope, I don't. :( I wonder if it's similar to Fantasmic!, though?

Um, I think the water is compressed so tightly, it forms the screens, and the images are projected onto the water screens...? You're not bugging me, I just wish I knew more... :p

Screamscape sources tell us that Disney management is talking about possibly putting on a few unannounced sneak peek performances of World of Color as early as May 14 & 15th. I’m told that the show install and programming is fairly solid at this point with nothing major expected to change from now on until the fall when they can start looking at doing the first “rehab” on the show to replace things that didn’t work out as expected, or fix anything major that gets damaged over the summer. Again, this is just something being talked about right now. More on this when things get closer and more locked down.

Editor's Note 5/7: Posted 5/6: TDA pulled the trigger on Wednesday and extended DCA hours for at least the first week of World of Color, with an 11PM closing time June 11 through 19. They may revert back to 10PM once the AP summer blockouts kick in, or they may try for the later closings through summer depending on how the spending numbers read to them. Stay tuned, as anything involving World of Color is now very fluid and subject to change. - Al Lutz

Editor's Note 5/8: Although it's looking increasingly unlikely to happen, should D23 be able to put together a special event for World of Color, it would probably be a private one. They're apparently very aware of the capacity issues with the show, and don't want to set aside any viewing spaces during a regular public performance. - Al Lutz

Editor's Note 5/10: Burbank's legal and corporate red tape couldn't get the proposed "Showpass" moniker approved in time, so they'll just be calling it World of Color Fastpass when it launches next month. Get to the Grizzly River Run ticket machines early, and just hope you pull a ticket in either Yellow A, B, C, or Red A and B sections. If you pull a Blue section ticket over by the Golden Zephyr, you might as well toss 'em and wait to get into Yellow or Red at the later non-Fastpass shows. - Al Lutz
