If anyone cares...
I'm not sure if it appropriate to post here or not, but here is the Sydney Morning Herald's (the major metro paper for Sydney) review for FN:
http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2003/08/ ... 60662.html

I might post a few comments after I see it tonight! Looking forward to it :D

Well, just got back from seeing it...
And after all the hype, all the press, the endless stream of in-jokes on the forum I didn't understand (and I do now MMB, so fire away)....it was great.

I thoroughly enjoyed it the whole way through. Probably the most emotional of the Pixar films to date (in the sense that at one moment you are laughing, the next minute it has broken your heart). The characters were genuinely likable, and you actually cared about their fate.

Some of you have asked me about the film, keen to hear an Aussie perspective on this very Australian Pixar film. I'm not sure about the rest of the country, but I loved it and the audience in my session did too. We seem to like laughing at ourselves as a country, and something about hearing genuine Australian accents (if slightly exaggerated) in an American film made it all the more enjoyable.

Can't say I love it any more or less than the other Pixar films, as I have changed my mind on others before (Monsters Inc.) . But for once there seems to be a US film involving Australia and Australians that got it right.

:D

On a side note, the Brother Bear trailer played up front (I think this is the first time in Aussie theatres. I had seen it online, but very cool to see up on the big screen).[/i]

I'm glad you enjoyed it Loomis, I cant wait until its released over here in the UK.

Does anyone know why its taken so long to hit the rest of the world since it was released in May in the states and us here in the UK aren't getting it until October 10th?

Loomis,

Glad you liked it. You know I didn't even think about the accents! LOL

Now all you have to tell us is how it did at the box office!!!

How did your girlfriend like it?

It was funny, the first time an Aussie accent was heard on screen the entire cinema burst into laughter. And I don't think it was mocking either - we were all genuinely having fun at some very Aussie characters in there. That dentist was scarily accurate, although I find it unlike an Australian would name their child Darla...he hee hee....just one of those things :P

Re: girlfriend - she was feeling a bit under the weather, but despite that really enjoyed it.

I forgot to say, to those who haven't seen it (or will see it again) we stayed until the very end of the credits, and there is a cute little joke t the very end. Couldn't stop laughing.

Will make a box office report at the end of the week, but I suspect it will do quite well. I went to a relatively early session, and that was really full, and the sessions either side of it had sold out, so looking good.

Glad you finally got a chance to see it, Loomis.
After all the hype I was hoping it wouldn't be a letdown for you...great to see that it wasn't.

Thank, indiana. Can't wait for the DVD now :P

I've just realised this thread is fast becoming focused on me (as the token Aussie). So here is another review from an Aussie newspaper:
http://entertainment.news.com.au/common ... bv,00.html

Are there any other Aussies here who have seen this and have an opinion?

Actually, I didn't really enjoy it all that much. It was too episodic, it felt like all they were trying to do was show off their talents with CGI, and besides the opening scene, I felt it greatly lacked the emotion of Monsters Inc. (which IMO is the only really good Pixar film-the rest I really don't care for all that much.).

Yes, but you aren't Australian are you? Hee hee hee... :D

Actually, my girlfriend had much the same thing to say about it - in that she like Monsters Inc. more than this one. And I tend to agree that MI was much sweeter than this one, and I can totally see where you are coming from in the 'episodic feel' of the film. It is just despite all that, I really dug it...
