That's horrible, but he left a great legacy of entertainment behind him, and his role in The Little Mermaid will continue to stand as one of the great supporting characters in Disney animation history. I didn't know about his parts in Mel Brooks' films, but now I have even more inclination to see those films.

Rest in Peace, Mr. Mars.

No. That's horrible. :(

Well, everyone dies eventually. But it's sad to see anyone from an incredible original cast like Mermaid's go.

Rest in peace.

Think of the great lines he delivered:

"You know, not many people know this, but the Fuhrer was a terrific dancer."

"But nobody said a bad word about Winston Churchill, did they?!?"

"He vill curse the day he vas born a Frankenstein!"

"It is not superstition that worries me, herr Doctor, but genes und CHROMOSOMES!"

"Well, keep looking for them. Leave no stone unturned, no coral unexplored, let NO ONE in this kingdom sleep until she's safe at home!"

"Then I guess there's just one problem left...How much I'm going to miss her."

"I take great exception to the scene in which we just witnessed a man with a BAG on his HEAD scaring und frightening children who are having a nice happy-time. Let me state unequivocally und with absolute certainty that it is physically impossible for such a boogeyman to come and get you simply by saying the words, 'Candle Jack'...Then again..."

Now, if only I could remember something from What's Up, Doc?

Little Foot's grandpa is dead :(

I watched The Land Before Time WAY more then I ever did The Little Mermaid as a kid, so that's where I mainly remember him from. I watched The Little Mermaid for the first time in nearly a decade about a year ago (before I sold my VHS) and I immediately said to myself; Holy shit, that's Little Foot's grandpa as Triton!"

I actually didn't really make the connection in the Mel Brookes movies as it's been awhile. Anyways, sad to see him go, loved his voice.

I wonder if this cancer was the reason he didn't voice Triton in the little mermaid III? Not that the movie was anything to write home about but I did miss hearing him reprise the role.

I grew up watching Mermaid (and series), Land Before Time (and sequels), and Thumbelina, and I watched them all pretty frequently. So he was kind of a staple voice for animation.

Plus, I’ve seen him guest star in several series. Unfortunately, I haven’t had the chance to see a lot of his other films, though I plan to in future.

It’s only too bad he didn't/couldn’t come back for Ariel’s Beginning. Like others said, it is just a DTV sequel, but I would have liked for all the spin-offs to have the original cast involved. I’m really dreading the days when Benson and Carroll may not be here anymore. :(

So am I. In fact, I'm also dreading the day that Mary Costa (Sleeping Beauty), Jim Cummings and Kathryn Beaumont (Alice in Wonderland) are gone as well. :(

At least Jodi will be around a bit longer.

Unfortunately. We've already lost nearly everyone leftover from Walt's time, now the "new" regime is aging. :(

He left behind a great legacy in both comedy and animation. Now this scene has even more emotional weight to it for me now...

That scene was playing in my mind as I was reading the article. "I love you, daddy."

He definitely had the voice for patriarchs.

He was so good in The Little Mermaid, a presence that can't be overlooked, and looking at his past roles he could really play the characters as very different individuals. Rest in peace Kenneth Mars.

What are you trying to do, start something? Please don't be a jerk when someone dies. I beg of you. Whatever you want. Just please don't do it.
