Reminder: Forum Downtime

Just a reminder to anticipate some road bumps as we switch hosts. The changes have been made, but they take a day or two to fully take effect...at which point, I'll have to re-install the forum software and restore the database.

So, cross your fingers that all goes alright, and please be patient as we see what should be the end of the problems.

So far, from what I've seen, this new host is better in every single way than the crappy one.

I got a problem. The backup of this forum's database isn't wanting to be restored at the new location - so I guess we're screwed and will all have to re-register. Unless you guys have better ideas. For some people, the new forum is already turning up in this location - so this is going to dissolve soon, I fear.

Is it becaused the new database is locked?

You could take the whole site down so it's not being accessed and try then?

If not, then I don't mind reregistering. Shame we'll loose some of the posts.

I don't think the database is locked. I try restoring it at the new location and it goes and it goes and then it says File was Not Uploaded. I tried doing it through PhpMyAdmin and it didn't work either. Seemed like it was going but threw a maximum timeout exception.

Well, before you make any decisions, try emailing your new host's technical support. I don't know how big the backup is, but maybe it cannot be done on a web page interface as it's too big.

Perhaps they will have an idea

Good idea. I just e-mailed them.

I don't want to lose everything and technically, I have the database saved, so we shouldn't be able to, one way or another.

hrm.. the reset would lose some nice discussions, but if it is the only way....

but try contacting their technical support first... :P

Didn't want to start a new thread, but just wanted to say that the forum is running waaaaaaay faster for me since the reboot.

Keep up the good work Luke!

Glad to hear it's faster for you. Perhaps the new host is geographically closer to the Land Down Under?

Yes - It is part of my ongoing theory that eventually everything will be Australian :P

Yeah, the site/forum has been running a ton faster, and smoother.

Also, I did experience some freaky stuff this morning and last night. With the IP address like not being there (page cannot be displayed), ect. ect.

but it's all cool, for now...

Are there going to be any changes in the near future Luke?

I don't see myself switching webhosts again anytime soon, so unless they tell me otherwise, everything should pretty much be stable. The loading problems have been completely gone for me the past few weeks, but I wasn't around earlier.
