I've noticed various search engine bots suddenly appearing like Google, Bing, Yahoo, Majestic-12 etc. They weren't present in the old forum. At least they didn't appear so.
What's their function? Are there any negative consequences from their presence here? Should any (or all) of them be blocked?

They're always there . . . watching.
Basically, the search engines are using bots to gather information for their pages so the info from this site can be indexed. It's normal and a good thing (and has been happening all along), so no worries.
