It was a 'wild and crazy' night for the Top Nine last night on "American Idol". We heard each one bare their soul, rock their socks, and sing their heart out as they competed to NOT be the one going home tonight on the Results Show.
The theme of the night was - Our Idols Take On Their Idols - and the guest mentor was Stevie Nicks.
Colton Dixon lead off the competition with his rendition of Lighthouse's "Everything" and wore his emotions on his sleeve and brought tears to the eyes of some in the audience and to judge Jennifer Lopez. Randy said that this performance showed us that Colton was "in it to win it"!! In my opinion, I don't think he has potential to get to the Final Four.
Skylar Laine brought the audience to their feeet with her performance of Miranda Lambert's "Gunpowder and Lead". She was all over the stage, and got rave reviews from all three judges. Personally, I really like Skylar, but the last time I liked someone they were sent home.
Heejun Han found himself again and provided one of the best moments of the night with his rendition of Donnie Hathaway's "A Song For You". It was his best performance of the season in my eyes, but I don't think it was good enough to keep him out of the bottom three.
Hollie Cavanagh brought back the spirit of Carrie Underwood when she performed "Jesus Take The Wheel" and gave Jennifer 'goosies' again. This young lady can sing the phone book and make it sound great.
DeAndre Brackensick got raves from the judges as he sang Eric Benet's "Sometimes I Cry". Personally, I don't think this kid anythng going for him except he has this crazy hair and he is "cute" as a button. The 'tween-age' girls are voting for him for sure, regardless of talent.
Jessica Sanchez showed us why she is this year's "Idol" with her version of Beyonce's "Sweet Dreams". A standing ovation was given to her by all, audience and judges alike, and all the reviews were stellar and positive.
Phillip Phillips brought his unique style to Jonny Lang's "Still Raining" and showed why he is a definite threat to get to the Final Four.
Joshua Ledet took on Mariah Carey's "Without You", a Harry Nillson song that was a challenge for anyone who would sing it, and got a standing ovation from the judges. Randy said the 'bar was just raised' and Joshua is standing under it.
Elise Testone brought the house down with her show-stopping rendition of Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love". Bringing the judges and the audience to their feet once again with one of the best performances of the night. I personally think that this young lady is going to give Jessica a run for the title.
Highlighting the show was three trios put together by the producers singing a medley of hits. First up was Colton, Elise and Phillip doing a Fleetwood Mack medley of songs.
The second Trio was DeAndre, Heejun, and Joshua cruising throught Michael Jackson songs.
The third Trio was Hollie, Jessica, and Skylar with, in my eyes, the best medley ever as they took on the songs of Madonna.
My pick for the bottom three tonight are Heejun, DeAndre and Hollie. I hope DeAndre gets this axe, but it will probably be Heejun.
The Results Show tonight is highlighted by a return of Season 10 winner Scotty McCreery, fresh off his tour with Brad Paisley, and Nicky Minaj gracing the 'Idol' stage. Looks to be a great night.
