Happy Feet

Post by numba1lostboy »

What did everyone think of this film? I thought it was cute, but at the same time unexpectedly wierd. Did everyone else think the film was going to be one thing and go see it just to have it end up being totally different than they thought?

It looks weird to me from the previews. Actually, it looks so incredibly annoying to me that I don't even feel bad that I will be waiting for DVD for this one, or for television. Seriously, it's unusual for me to feel this way, but I honestly don't want to see this movie. I don't get that very often for an animated film, though I somewhat felt that way about Shark Tale. I still have only seen Shark Tale in parts. I don't remember if I wanted to see Robots or not, but after I saw it, I was very disappointed.

Allright, here is the review you have been looking for.

Happy Feet is probably one of the best CGI films to come out, ever! Yes, it is totally something different from what I was expecting. It is sort of like a musical version of "March of the Penguins", except that we have penguins that can talk and 'sing'. The main story is about this little penguin voiced by Elijah Wood, who can't sing, so he can't win the love of his life in the penguins migration to mate. He can't sing, but as the advertisments say, HE CAN DANCE!!! And dance he does, but he is looked down on by the others members of his flock.

The voice casting is superb, with Nicole Kidman, Hugo Weaving, Hugh Jackman, Brittany Murphy, and the late Steve Irwin who gives voice to Kev. The biggest star of all in the film is Robin Williams, but he doesn't make a full blow recognizable appearance until about twenty minutes into the movies. He does the voice of another character called Cletus, but his main role is that of Ramon. Once Williams enters the picture this film takes off and is absolutely mesmerizing. You will find yourself wanting to dance on your seat, in the aisles, or anywhere you can get on your feet. The music is very infectious, and the comedy abounds once Robin Williams appears. That being said, the first twenty minutes is not boring, but a very good setup for Williams' appearance.

All of you naysayers, and critics who don't go to the movies, should go see this one. It is everything you will not expect to see in a movie, and then some. As I overheard a lady telling some one who was waiting in line for tickets, 'a good time will be had by all'. I couldn't have said it any better.

Saw it today. The kids loved it. Personally I think it was a little weird, specially the human figures involved at the end and all the ecological message in the plot. I give it a B+. Flushed Away: A-.

Between the cute previews and teh all star cast I think that Happy Feet looks promising but I have yet to see it. From what I have seen, I think the CGI looks pretty amazing though! For all you people in here who saw it and said it was "weird"... was it worth paying money to see it in the theater or should it wait until video??

This is a burning question? Did those who have seen Happy Feet in theaters get to see the Harry Potter Trailer? If so, was it good?
I know this is off-topic, but come on, it's Harry Potter!!!!

I did! And it was awesome. Didn't show much of the plot, just enough high-tension scenes to whet our appetite. I honestly sat on the edge of my seat for the duration of the trailer. My friends made fun of me, but it was Harry Potter. I seriously cannot wait for this film.

Just out of curiousity, was there a trailer for Fred Cluas? I want to see it next year but I don't know whether to expect another Elf (family comedy for all, funny as hell) or another Wedding Crashers (not for families, still funny as hell). I figured if they show the trailer here it's a family film.

They did show the trailer, and I thought the film didn't look too good. It just showed Fred (Vince Vaughn) and Santa (Paul Giamatti) on a couch, bickering in a brotherly fashion.
Now, I didn't think Happy Feet was exactly a family film, so I wouldn't jump to conclusions about this film. It's produced by the same team that produced Wedding Crashers, and it has Vince Vaughn, an actor known for his non-family films.
The title is kind of awkward, too.

All the trailers shown on Happy Feet were:
Happily N'ever After
Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix
Fred Claus
...and there was another one, too...I can't remember the name, though...

Seeing how spoilers are ok. Can someone tell me how the movie ended? We had to leave when Mumble returned home after he was put in the zoo. My three year old started to get cranky.

BTW the trailer for Fred Claus is online, I think I saw it on MySpace. It didn't look all that funny, and the kids in the theatre didn't get it. Vince Vaughn doing the same old thing he does in every movie, and Paul Giamatti made an awful looking Santa. Then again I thought Elf, looked stupid from the previews, but ended up really enjoying it.

ENDING SPOILER:
The penguins see Mumble's tracking device, everyone freaks out, Mumble protests that the "aliens" are good, the freaking out stops when a helicopter flys over the entire flock, Mumble starts dancing, everyone begins to see that Mumble might have a point, the theatre is treated to CGI animation at its finest with thousands of penguins tap-dancing in time, the humans get out of the helicopter and start dancing along (looking incredibly stupid, btw), the footage of the thousand dancing penguins circles the globe and the humans seem to interpret this as a message to stop harvesting fish around the arctic ( :? ), and the narrator tells us how one penguin changed the world. The end shot is of the world from space. Why we kept getting shots from space in a penguin movie will never make sense to me.

thanks, that how I thought it would have ended. I'll pick it up on dvd for sure, it was a fun little animated film, maybe not the best of the year. But with so many movies this year, kinda hard to be.

I just looked at the box office for the weekend and this film came at #1. I haven't seen it yet but it surprised me since I thought Casino Royale (which i do not plan on seeing) would be #1.

PixarFan2006 - you really need to go see both of these movies. "Casino Royale" because it is the best James Bond movie ever! - and "Happy Feet" because you will be dancing in the aisles with everyone else. These are two of the best films of 2006, and believe me, it can't be that expensive to go to a matinee showing of either of these.

Hmmm, could something so simplistic and "cute" such as an animated film about tap-dancing penguins have liberal messages?
IMBD wrote:Fox News business commentator Neil Cavuto suggested Wednesday that Warner Bros.' hit movie Happy Feet was like "an animated Inconvenient Truth," Al Gore's documentary about global warming. "I half expected to see an animated version of Al Gore pop up," he said. In the lower part of the screen, the words, "Is Hollywood using kids movies to promote agenda?" were posted. Cavuto called the film "big-time objectionable" for "foisting" a political position on children. He called in Fox critic Holly McClure who agreed and took the film to task for negative portrayals of marine acquariums and water parks, saying that they were intended to make parents "feel guilty" about taking their kids to them. Meanwhile, Fox News's corporate sibling 20th Century Fox has posted a trailer for the upcoming The Simpsons Movie on YouTube, showing Homer finding himself hilariously banged about between a rock and a hard place. That animated film also reportedly has an environmental message.
