Fire and Ice

Post by DEREKG »

I saw on ebay there are several versions of the film for sale.

Widescreen and Fullscreen?

I'm fairly sure these are bootlegs?

Does anyone own a copy? What's the quality like?

Do they have any plans to release this title anytime soon?

It seems like these older cartoons are getting the treatment they deserve. I sure hope Fire & Ice does!

I read there WAS one for last year but it never happened. Maybe we should try writing to the company for more info? I'd like to have that movie too.

Check this out:

Thank you for your e-mail and interest in Blue Underground's release of
Fire And Ice. This project is currently in the works, and unfortunately
I do not have a release date at this time. Sorry to keep you in
anticipation, but this one will surely be worth the wait. I am a huge
fan of both Fire And Ice and Frank Frazetta. I'm eagerly awaiting its
release myself. A street date will be posted once it has been
determined. You can visit our website for frequent updates at
www.blue-underground.com

As a side note, Blue Underground will be releasing two separate versions
of Fire And Ice. There will be a one disc, and a limited edition two
disc set which will include the feature length documentary Frazetta:
Painting With Fire. This is a great documentary for die hard Frazetta
fans, which features not only Frank Frazetta, but Ralph Bakshi, Neal
Adams, Bernie Wrightson, and many more.

Should you have any additional questions, concerns, and/or suggestions
please feel free to contact us directly. Best Wishes!

Hopefully we'll see it soon? :)

There is a DVD from Japan, widescreen. I have been tempted to order it.<p><a href="http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.htm ... 3127"><img border="0" src="http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/pictures/s/08/38/PIBA-3127.jpg" width="128" height="128"></a></p>
The Japanese laserdisc also has a making-of.

The Australian Region 4 PAL DVD is legit:

Despite the 4% speedup, the DVD is very enjoyable to watch, especially since it's OAR!

I'm excited for this release as well. After this one, I think that most of the 70s/80s adult animated films will be out on DVD. I just got Rock & Rule and Starchaser The Legend of Orin not too long ago. Fire and Ice was a unique movie... a lot of rotoscope but it worked pretty well in this case. I hope they have some of the live action footage as a bonus.

I want it but I'll probably have to wait and get it online if I can. I want this, Rock & Rule and Starchaser but from last Wednesday to Saturday I hit almost every major video store in this city and I couldn't find either! :x

That's one of the problems, yes. Just trying to find some of these titles can be a daunting task. I found Starchaser at Best Buy for $10. They had Rock & Rule, but only the 1 disc. I got the 2 disk from deepdiscountdvd.com for $20.

Another film I'd like to see on DVD, uncut, is Twice Upon a Time.

I to own Rock & Rule SE and Starchaser. Just got them last week.

Hey Maerj,

Do you know of any other hard to find old cartoons?

I have Watership Down, Wizards, Heavy Metal, Rock & Rule, Starchaser, Fire and Ice is coming.

Are there any other titles out there I'm missing?

Have you ever seen Plaque Dogs? I'm considering this one.

Also, there's another cartoon I can't remember the name of???

It from the 80's. I has a 50's setting. The main guy wears a leather biker jacket?

I don't remember much of it though.

I think it's something like American Groove, or something.

I don't know??????????

Let me know if there's anything I'm missing?

Its American Pop. Not a bad movie, it was a look at the music and pop culture over the decades following a guy, then I guess his offspring. It was made by Ralph Bakshi, the guy responsible for:

Fritz the Cat (first X-Rated cartoon, R by today's standards)
Heavy Traffic (also known as Coonskin)
Wizards
Fire & Ice
Lord of the Rings
The New Adventures of Mighty Mouse (the version where he snorted coke)
Cool World

That's all I can think of from him at the moment. John Krisfaluci was one of his animators. You probably already know that he went off to make Ren & Stimpy. He had another show called the ripping Friends, 4 episodes are out on DVD.

There was one from...1970, I think called Fantastic Planet. I am trying to get a copy from a website now. Very funky film. Its a Czech/French movie about these large blue creatures who keep tiny humans as pets. The same animator went on to make a film called Light Years. That's not on DVD as far as I know. He also did one with an artist named Mobius called Time Masters.

I've never seen Plague Dogs, I am curous about that one as well.

If i think of any other titles, I'll post them here.

No. Heavy Traffic is (and has always been) Heavy Traffic.

Coonskin was redubbed StreetFight for the US market. I'm one of the very few who have Coonskin/StreetFight on LaserDisc -- unfortunately it's P&S. Still, it's the best presentation of the film that I'm aware of! :)

Yeah that's right... I was in a bit of a hurry that night and wanted to respond quickly. I heard somewhere that Snoop Dogg was interested in making a sequel or remake to that film!

Ever hear of an animated film called Twice Upon a Time? They say that it was originally geared toward an adult audience when it was on HBO. Then it came out on video in a censored form so that it would be more suitable for children. I think a dual release on DVD would be appropriate, that way you can see the version you want.

I picked up the 2-Disc LE from BB on Tuesday (it also has 4 bonus character cards inside exclusive to BB), and all I can say is -- AWESOME! I've never seen the film with this much clarity, rich colors, and lively sound (a DTS track!). Up until now, I've had to rely on my Japanese LD or my PAL R4 DVD. This blows both of these releases away by a very large margin!

Nice job Blue Underground; you made a diehard Bakshi fan very happy by producing a VERY nice set.
