Phantasm Remastered and Phantasm V

Post by Mickeyfan1990 »

I wanted to kick this General DVD Discussion section into high gear so I wanted to make a discussion of 2 titles that came out on DVD and Blu-ray recently; Phantasm and Phantasm RaVager.

As you may or may not know, a new 4K remaster of Phantasm was made between last and this year by Don Coscarelli and J.J. Abrams (that's right!) and Well Go USA acquired the US rights to Phantasm I, III, IV, and V this year (Universal owns US rights to II). Well Phantasm and Phantasm RaVager are out on DVD and Blu-ray and worthy of adding to your collection. Though forewarn; do not get rid of your Anchor Bay or MGM DVDs because even though the remastered edition of Phantasm looks great and even includes the original mono (with the added addition of the original Avco Embassay logo restored!), visual alterations have been made such as a new sphere (in both CGI and as a practical effect). Of course there is also a complete collection box set coming out in the first quarter of 2017 (impossibile you say? Well it just so happens Universal is the new US distributor for Well Go USA titles: http://www.homemediamagazine.com/studio ... -usa-38725). No additional information as of yet.
