Easily a Fake if you ask me  .
Since when does a region 1 include chinese language track ? R1 will usually include a french and sometimes spanish language track. Don't be fooled !!

This would not be a region 1 DVD but a region 0.

But the seller writes that it is region 1 so you wount think it is a bootleg, and when you get it you manage to play it in your DVD player so you never think that it is anything else then a region 1.

The is bootlegs all the way, as well as all the other titles that this seller has to offer.

What is the 8th DVD in that set? I have the Disney Treasures box set and there are only 7 double disc DVD sets in it so I'm just wondering what the 8th DVD advertised, is.

eBay is the bread and butter of Asian video pirates. Don't waste your time or money. If it's Asian, particularly Chinese or Malaysian, and offered on eBay, there's a 99% chance it's a bootleg.

If you want to buy a legitimate Asian DVD, buy it through a legitimate Asian video importer. There are several that can be found online.
All have fallen short.

It's too legit to quit! :P

Actually, I would say not, largely because:

- the Treasures have not been officially released (yet) outside of the US/Canada and Europe/UK (I think the latter is in May sometime).
- it is a 4-in-1 box - something else that has not been released (Costco did that box of 7, but this is obviously not that)
- Plus, as 2099net pointed out, they are R1 encoded - and clearly not R1 in origin.

Still, it IS a good deal :P

This definitely looks to be bootleg.

Also, I checked some of their other products. One of them is Friends Seasons 1-9. They only recently released Season 7, and I doubt they'd release 8 and 9 in Asia before doing so here.

Definitely fake.

Season 10 is already released in the UK. When it comes to TV Shows Europe many times get them before the US. Buffy season 7 was also recently released in the UK and Australia.

They are released as individual discs with 4 episdoes each, then collected into box sets when finished.

The first episodes of S10 are available to buy as individual releases.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

Someone has been watching too many Hogan's Heroes reruns. Quality post.

As for bootlegs on eBay, they are a rampant problem. I've got a copy of Mulan up for auction (since the announcement of the SE) & the prices are way down but not just because of a lot of people dumping their legit copies of the LI & Gold Editions. I checked one auctioneer who has multiple auctions with 9 copies of Mulan in each auction who is selling them for around $9 apiece & when doing a search of the last 30 days of his open & closed auctions found that he's sold 195 copies of Fantasia 60th AE (average price also around $9). In the last 2 weeks he branched out and is selling Tarzan, Mulan & Toy Storys by the truckload. He is in the US, claims they're R1, authentic with insert but who does he think he is kidding. No wonder eBays stock is going through the roof (which it is having just reported record earnings this week). I cannot believe they allow this & I can't believe Disney hasn't pressured them to close these things down (along with the Asian bootlegs). It drives the price people like me get down into the ground because they snap those cheapies up having not researched his selling record. He's got a bigger vault of OOP Disney dvds than Disney does. BTW if you want to check the auctions out the username is expertdvd51.

2 Types of Mulan DVDs, Authentic or Fake?

Post by kaspa_lee »

Hi, I have a question because I'm interested in purchasing a Mulan DVD. (price isnt an issue). I've done some research and I've found 2 different DVDs that seem to be genuine.

The first one is the "Gold Collection" version, where the gold collection logo is metallic and shiny, Now I've seen other DVDs where the "Gold collection'' logo bar is printed in yellow normal ink colour. Did they release two types of these? Here is an example:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... otohosting

Does this mean it is genuine? I'd imagine something like that would be difficult to reproduce.

The next is a "Limited Issue" version. I've found this one and the pictures are pretty clear, and on the barcode on the back it has a cut-out "proof of purchase" token. I've been informed that in the US or the region 1 release whatever (because im in Australia) had a special promotion where you could cut-out the tokens and send them in to recieve a free DVD of some sort. Here is an example:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... otohosting

Does this token at the back verify authencity of the DVD?

I know theres a 2-Disc SE coming soon but everything is delayed in Australia so I just want one to keep in the meantime.

Please give me your opinions and knowledge oh wise disney go-ers :)

Welcome to the forum. Mulan has been released as both a Limited Issue and Gold Collection DVD. Read here: http://www.ultimatedisney.com/releasetypes.htm

If you have the abilities to play Region 1 DVDs, why not just import from America the new 2-disc Special Edition coming October 26?

Welcome to the forum, kaspa_lee.

First of all both are real.
The "Limited Issue" was first relase in a DisneyAnimatedAnthology back in 1999.

http://www.yanman.com/HomeTheater/Revie ... Review.htm

Then it was change to "Gold Collection" but it has everything the same like the "Limited Issue".
The "Gold Collection is a little better because it's newer.

This will also help you: http://www.ultimatedisney.com/releasetypes.htm

But if I was you I would wait because it's worth it.
The Mulan Special Edition has 2 Disc and will be worth the upgrade.
Also, the E-bay user might sell you a bootleg (copy not original DVD.)
But it's up to you.

Thanks for the replies, but can everyone verify if they're real or fake?

I may decide to import when the time comes, but I would rather wait because if I purchase an R4 from a shop I'm guaranteed not to have a bootleg.

Tough to really say .... I would personally look for other ones.

One seller (Gold Collection) seems to have a lot of these Mulan DVDs to sell. Did he buy a whole bunch a long time ago and is now trying to sell them ? Or did he make copies ??

Since price is NOT an issue, I would look for other sellers and not limit myself to these 2 .... not the best of choices in my opinion.

Good Luck with your search. Do not hesisitate to ask if you have any more questions or need further opinions.

It is really hard to say unless they are in your hand.

People in this forum have had to get down to texture of printing and the manufacturer of the DVD to tell for sure.

If you want an opinion - the first is likely fake, the second one may be real.

how do you tell a bootleg from legit?

Post by goofyestes »

Hi,
I bought a Brother Bear dvd from a seller on ebay in China. It has a skip or more like it freezes so I called the dvd replacement number. They think that it is a bootleg copy. How do you tell if it is legit or not?
Thanks!
Niki :)
