No "Soccermania" on DVD for the US?

Post by Sunset Girl »

I was so excited when I found that "Soccermania" (an eighties cartoon starring Goofy and Scrooge) was going to be included in a volume of Walt Disney's Classic Cartoon Favorites (I knew there had to be another reason to get into this series besides Chip 'n Dale)! But according to UD's front page:
March 4, 2005 - Disney has just issued a press release for the second wave of Walt Disney's Classic Cartoon Favorites DVDs. Each of May's three discs in the series compiles 8 vintage shorts and carries a low suggested retail price of $14.99. Volume 5 (Extreme Sports Fun) loses "Soccermania" from the international release of the same title, but picks up Mickey's Polo Team and Goofy shorts centering around football, basketball, and baseball.
I am extremely disappointed with this news, as I'm sure the shorts on this disc are already available in the Treasures set. "Soccermania" (which I had hoped for on the Complete Goofy set once upon a time) is not available anywhere in R1. :(

Anyway, the above news says that it's on the international release. Can anyone give me info on where to find it? I didn't have any luck at eBay.

In my opinion, not enough people know about this fun little cartoon, which almost feels like a test preview for DuckTales. It's a bit looser in tone than the average Disney fare and is a lot of fun.

Anyway, thanks for reading. :)

Thanks for the links, guys! :D

By the way, does anyone know why Disney decided to omit this from the R1 release?

Don't know. There are a few differences between the R1 and international "Extreme Sports Fun."

The Region 2 one comes out next week and includes "Soccermania" (which as far as I know has never been released on home video in the US). Here's UD link to that DVD:

Loomis talked about one of the international versions and even had captures in his "Australian releases" thread over at the International Forum

Chicky Mouse, do you have that disc?
