I think this looks interesting. It actually interests me the most out of Disney's upcoming projects (well, along with Rapunzel). The fact that Chris Sanders is doing this gives me great hope that it'll be fun and quirky. I also love the concept art pieces and hope that the final film retains that sort of animal Norman Rockwell style to it.

When i first heard about this film i wasn't too excited but after seeing more pictures and learning more about the story i would say i am really looking forward to this film now, even more than Chicken Little!

Well, "from the creators of Lilo and Stitch" is pretty much all it takes to win me over.

I know there isn't much to go on there, but I really like the character designs. It doesn't seem to deviate too much from the Chris Sanders style ("bags of water"), and that's just fine by me. There is a certain nostalgic charm to his images that carried over well in L&S. Hopefully this new medium will capture them just as well.

Possibly not, but that doesn't mean it won't be a success either. 'Lilo and Stitch' itself was "less successful" than say...The Lion King in terms of box office, but still captured a large group of fairly hardcore fans.

If it is injected with the same sense of humour/sweetness as L & S, then it is a success in my book.

I think this looks very good. And quite frankly I have a lot of faith in Chris Sanders story telling abilities

Funny thing is, when I first saw pics for American Dog, I thought the dog was a moose! Along with most of you, I trust Chris Sanders will again produce something unique and successful in its own terms. Hopefully, Disney's CGI will be able to capture these wonderfully quirky characters and beatufully drawn settings, as they were mean to be seen.

I'm looking forward to this release! It looks interesting and with the Lilo and Stitch creator Chris Sanders i think it will be a great film. Just loved the last picture! Soo cute! Reminded me of the cuteness of L & S...

I think this looks gorgeous. And I'm not normally a fan of 3D work (in fact, I'm very wary of it, and don't often like it). But this looks very nice ... and the fact that Chris Sanders is behind it ... well, that only helps, for me (as Lilo & Stitch is my favorite film). But those pictures ... very nice, I love the designs ... I'm just itching for this film! Probably my most anticipated now (along with Lilo & Stitch 2).

Anyway, this has got me excited about Disney's future ... more so than I was several months ago.

12/15/2006: "Breaking news: Chris Sanders no longer on American Dog?"

An anonymous e-mail writes that Chris Sanders is no longer overseeing American Dog for Walt Disney Feature Animation, as the director has been released from the project. Perhaps more on this story will be released soon.

Any thoughts on if this is anonymous e-mail is that they recieved is reliable?

If it said "a reliable source that wishes to remain anonymous", I'd believe it. But since they simply say "anonymous e-mail", I'd take it with a grain of salt for now.

I agree. I'm pretty sure that he would stay on board for the project. I mean, is there a reason for him to leave?

Doesnt sound like a very solid rumour and I certainly hope it is untrue.

This sounds like a rumor. I bet it's not even true. Is there even any source of him leaving the project?

I don't think I could believe this for now. It's pretty late into production for him to get up and leave. Isn't this film supposed to release in 2008? It'd be too much of a waste on his part.

This wouldn't suprise me at all actually. Since John Lasseter is at Disney Feature Animation some strange stuff has happened (like the change of music composer on "The Frog Princess") and this could be the next step from John. I'm just guessing here though. I don't want Chris to leave the project, as he came up with the idea and it would be a real shame to lose him! If this is true, I hope John knows what he's doing!

Even though Mr Hill's comments aren't always the most reliable, I have to say I have drawn the same conclusions a while back. Let's face it, the CG animation for Rapunzel looks 20 times better than anything Pixar have done and I think Mr Hill's comments about the worried Pixar people are spot on.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love Disney to return to traditional animation, but not like this. If Disney were to do return to 2D full time because they felt it was best for the film, then fine. But to return to 2D just because Lasseter doesn't want CG competition? No. I said from the beginning I was against the Pixar deal.
