A second remake of The Parent Trap is in the works for Disney's streaming service.
The Disney brand extension is expected to make a heavy push into film with an eye on Disney's robust library of family titles. The Parent Trap (1998), Father of the Bride (1991) and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989) are among the first projects on the table for potential film reboots, sources say.
We have learned from a reliable source that Disney is indeed looking into possibly rebooting The Parent Trap and looking to cast people of color for the lead roles. We have received word from another trusted source that tells us this will indeed be an original film for Disney+.
Now they are starting to make second remakes of their movies? Well, I'm not completely against it. I don't mind this one, for example. But I wish they wouldn't play it so safe and would bet on new stories. And if they want to do remakes, they could choose lesser-known films that haven't been remade yet. Or at least remade them in a new format, like for instance, making a TV series of "The Parent Trap" instead of a new movie.
