Wow, they showed a rather long clip! The story borrows a lot from Reason and Emotion, but it doesn't look bad so far. I like the stylized character designs and the organs look more appealing than in the concept art. The brain "visions" were very funny too, but they are the only thing in 2D and they don't even fill the screen.

The main character reminds me so much of Carl Fredricksen!

The Disney Store has two Inner Workings T-shirts. It isn't very common for Disney to make merchandise for their shorts, is it?

It reminded me of him too. It seems they have used a similar artistic device here. If you pay attention, he and all the boring elements in his life are square-shaped, while all the things that are fun are round-shaped.

Thanks for sharing these! The concept art looks much more appealing than the final product but I say that with almost every CG project!

You're welcome :) Yes, I agree. Many times the concept art looks better than the final product, especially with 3D films. However, on this occasion I also found the final designs more appealing than I expected. When I first learnt the short would feature organs as the protagonists, I thought I would have a hard time seeing it. But they are actually rather cute.

I saw Inner Workings yesterday with Moana and I loved it. I think it may be one of my favourites since Disney began making shorts again. It is creative, funny and it teaches an important lesson. I liked Piper very much too, but I think this one is even better.

I really enjoyed this! My favorite part was when the three square bosses (I assume they were the bosses) were staring everybody at the end and then started dancing, too. I loved how they visualized the brain/heart/stomach/etc.

It seems at first the organs were going to be in the style of Paperman and Feast:

I liked this but it did feel repetitive. Shorts under Lasseter are becoming less creative. This rehashed a bunch of things we'd already seen in Day & Night, Paperman, Inside Out and Reason and emotion.

They even recycled the full bladder joke from Day & Night.

Visually stunning though. I will give em that.

I kind of hated this short... Of course, it didn't help that a couple of days ago I stumbled upon a collection of short comic strips about the human brain and heart operating the human body.... So I thought this short was kind of stealing from other material, and the short wasn't even better than that material. I felt it was so mediocre compared to Paperman.

Also, can we just stop with the peeing jokes? Like there were 2 here and 2 in Moana and I think that's kind of enough for the rest of the Disney film slate.

One thing I will say, I did enjoy the ending where he went back to work and didn't just quit, but I didn't like the fact that the whole world changed around and started dancing with him... Like in real life, your bosses wouldn't just break into dance. And the jokes about him being burying were hilarious.

Anyone know the name of the song in the end?
"In every age, Family is king,
and the bravest journeys, are never taken alone."
-Brave.

It’s called “California Loco”, it was made for the short by composer Ludwig Göransson and sung by Este Haim from HAIM. You can listen to it at the end of the short’s soundtrack that Disney recently uploaded to Youtube (It’s at minute 3:53): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzaL8mJLbX8

That’s the same portion that is featured in the short, I don’t know if there’s a longer version of it. It’s a catchy song. I think the score is also great, especially towards the end of the short.

My thoughts exactly. Paperman and Feast are the same movie, for crying out loud! They just substituted the sentient paper planes with a sentient dog. It doesn't get less original than that.

Disney has just uploaded the song California Loco in full.
