First look at La Luna the latest Pixar Short project

Post by SillySymphony »

First spotted on Facebook via Disney Pixar.

Has anyone heard/know anything about this project?

EDIT -
Here’s a first look at Pixar’s latest short film, La Luna, which is premiering at the Annecy International Animation Festival, running June 6-11. The short’s director and Head of Story, Enrico Casarosa, began with Pixar in 2002, working as a story artist on Cars, followed by Ratatouille and Up. La Luna marks his directorial debut, and he is currently serving as Head of Story on an upcoming Pixar film.

The synopsis for La Luna, a “timeless fable of a young boy who is coming of age in the most peculiar of circumstances,” is below.

La Luna is the timeless fable of a young boy who is coming of age in the most peculiar of circumstances. Tonight is the very first time his Papa and Grandpa are taking him to work. In an old wooden boat they row far out to sea, and with no land in sight, they stop and wait. A big surprise awaits the little boy as he discovers his family’s most unusual line of work. Should he follow the example of his Papa, or his Grandpa? Will he be able to find his own way in the midst of their conflicting opinions and timeworn traditions?

Nice.

I was hoping that Toy Story 3 short wasn't the only thing in the shorts pipeline for this year...

I have a feeling that we won't actually get a real chance to see this short until Brave next year.

The visual style looks different from other Pixar shorts.

Will it be released in front of Brave?

If I had to guess, probably.

I guess it has something to do with whales. I look forward to seeing it.

The Toy Story Hawaii short is before Cars 2, so yeah this will most likely be tied to Brave.

I like the style so far...

I guess it has something to do with the moon. Call it a hunch.

I guess the title "La Luna" didn't give you any hints, huh?

If the whales were belugas, one of the females could be called Luna. 8)

Or if she were a drag queen whale, her name could be La Luna.

...Note to self, pitch drag queen whale short to Pixar.

Every time I look at the boy in that picture he seems familiar somehow. If his eyes were changed slightly so they're shaped like teardrops, his face would match the faces of children in the Precious Moments franchise.

The dad kinda looks like the one from "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs." No eyes or mouth, just a mustache that covers half his face.

Didn't we see some artwork on the walls of some studio visit or something where it has a little boy riding the back of a big dinosaur or something? What is that about?

I believe the dinosaur was concept art for a sort of documentary(about dinosaurs offcourse) on Discovery channel which Pixar was doing the animation for. Haven't heard of that in a long time..

I thought it was a girl.

And the dad does sorta remind me of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. All he needs is an arrow-shaped head.
