You know, that sucks. I bought that movie just a year ago and (I know, not one of Disney's best but) I don't like that it's non-anamorphic.

HOLY MOLEY! Look at this!:

http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=8386

"This year, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment will bring over thirty catalog entries to Blu-ray. The scheduled films span across Disney's different distribution branches, and while the studio has previously hinted at certain titles - such as The Color of Money, Cocktail, Ransom, Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure, The Rescuers, and The Aristocats - today's announcement sheds light on many more future Blu-rays.

Listed in chronological Blu-ray release order, the titles include:

May 15th, 2012: - Father of the Bride / Father of the Bride Part II
- Bringing Down the House

June 5th, 2012: - The Color of Money
- Cocktail
- Ransom

June 19th, 2012: - Sister Act / Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit
- Evita

July 3rd, 2012: - Home on the Range
- The Horse Whisperer
- Phenomenon
- Step Up
- Treasure Planet
- Under the Tuscan Sun

August 7th, 2012: - The Aristocats

Fall 2012: - Adventures in Babysitting
- Ed Wood
- Ghosts of the Abyss 3D
- Grosse Pointe Blank
- High Fidelity
- Judge Dredd
- Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure
- Pete's Dragon
- Pocahontas / Pocahontas 2: Journey to a New World two-movie package
- The Rescuers / The Rescuers Down Under two-movie package
- Romy and Michele's High School Reunion
- The Tigger Movie

Beginning in October 2012: - The Absent-Minded Professor
- Arachnophobia
- Atlantis: The Lost Empire
- Babes in Toyland
- Beaches
- Brother Bear
- Cold Creek Manor
- Dick Tracy
- Flubber
- The Hand That Rocks the Cradle
- Hocus Pocus
- The Santa Clause Trilogy
- Son of Flubber
- Sweet Home Alabama
- While You Were Sleeping

While the technical and supplementary specifications are still unknown for most of these features, Disney's EVP of product management Lori MacPherson noted that, "We receive many requests and comments from consumers seeking specific titles they'd like to own on Blu-ray and, as such, we carefully selected a number of popular films that will satisfy demand from fans worldwide...As we grow our Blu-ray catalog we will continue to utilize the best technologies to provide the most pristine and immersive in-home experience of our films.""

Look at all those titles! Some list, right?! :D

Finally some of Walt's live-action on Blu-Ray -- Yay!

I hope "Babes in Toyland" is remastered right and gets a few extras -- like "Backstage Party", "Title-Makers" and trailers -- maybe "The Truth About Mother Goose"?

Great news.

The only concern I have with these releases, and a reason I ultimately don't see myself rushing out to buy many, is that Disney will put little if any effort into them. Granted, a film like Treasure Planet, which is digital and had a huge slew of bonus features on a previous release, isn't much cause for concern. However, I think it's safe to say few if any bonus features will be newly produced for these (or newly sourced from the vault, i.e. Disney anthology series material), and I predict ithe likes of Babes in Toyland will probably look pretty mediocre. I can also imagine Brother Bear II and even Atlantis: Milo's Return being bundled with the first movies. Will Disney realise the sequels are well worth burying?

None the less, it's good to know that Disney really is putting out a lot of their back catalogue in HD, especially with regards to the live-action back catalogue and the lesser or mid-range animated films. With regards to the types of films they're reissuing, and in light of the fact that so many are "anniversary editions", I predict that the policy will make Robin Hood and The Sword in the Stone shoe-ins for next year at least.

I've continued to say 2012 was going to be a good year for Disney DVD/ Blu-ray releases. When you think about how on top of this list there may be some animated shows released later (Gargoyles, The Tick) and of course more Generations Collection and DMC Exclusives released, there will be plenty of titles for Disney fans to go after. :D

Definitely getting my hands on Hocus Pocus and I just realized, with Ed Wood being released on Blu-ray, all of Tim Burton's current directed films will be on Blu-ray.

Dick Tracy better have some decent extras. Hopefully Warren is prepping something now that he has the rights to it.
