Here's a girl who does a great Tink over on D.A., another of my top 3 fave Disney girls:

I love her Supergirl too, among other characters...

Okay, Calla from Gummi Bears? How awesome is that? This girl has a bunch of great characters in her gallery, actually, all done very well! She makes quite a drool-inducing blonde Batgirl, even if I generally prefer the Barbara Gordon/redhaired version.

Does a nice Wendy too.

I just noticed that the Tink I posted was the same Cosplayer that Mooky posted as Tink in the original thread-starter. Oh well, ha.

Here she is again. She also makes a great Alice...

But something's off. Those don't look like the all the same girls, just the same costumes. Cinderella's doesn't look the same. Is it a bad picture?

I met a few of them the following year too... they are a dedicated cisplay troop, but they don't always dress up as the same characters. Or more precisely one character can be played by more than one of them, which might explain why some of them look different.

Still cool to see the princesses hanging out with Elvira though. ;)

Indeed heh... I got lucky mind you, I had just queued up to meet Elvira, and spotted the Disney lasses and got chatting to them, then they got invited over to meet Elvira. Cue slightly large photo-op heh.

There's this artist on D.A. called Bri-Chan who is really amazing, and she has this fantastic and very popular piece of some of the Disney Girls making faces:

Image

Well, it's really popular with Disney cosplayers now to try and recreate this piece. There are a handful of such images on D.A. But, apparently, Bri-Chan did it herself, and she has the image below in her gallery. She is in the role of Alice, and apparently (if I'm understanding correctly) this is that same "Sexy Disney Girls" cosplay group that you guys have been talking and posting about, and that is pretty popular on the net by now. I don't know if she's part of the group, but apparently the Ariel is her best friend. Anyway, I just really love this.

Okay...just to be sure...

Do you buy these costumes like that? Or do people make 'em from scratch with pieces of cloth or store-bought 'normal' clothes?

Cuz I would be so into this. I would love to dress as a Disney character and be that character...ah dreams.

I think most serious cosplayers make their costumes because the ones sold usually suck, but I think the real idea is just to have a great costume, and it's okay if you have someone else make it for you or if it is part or even all bought ready made. I think all that matters is that you are in a costume, but the goal generally, as I get the impression just from observation, is to look as much like the character as possible (and have fun, of course). Of course, I'm not a cosplayer really... yet. Ha. If I ever date a girl into it, I could get into it though. I do always dress up on Halloween.

Anyways, I am also curious about something. I wonder what cosplayers do with their costumes. I mean, the general uses. It seems of course that they like to do Photoshoots and they wear them to conventions. Anything else? Not that those aren't good enough reasons. What do you do at the conventions in your costumes? Take photos with people who approach you and enter costume contests? These are my assumptions, but I've never gotten the full explanation from an actual cosplayer, so I'd love to hear it.

As for me, like I said, I do get really into Halloween costumes. I have done one Disney costume (well, I wore some as a kid, but I don't have those photos and probably wouldn't post them anyway, ha). I have posted it here before. I was the Genie from Aladdin, and a few years later, I went as the Vacation version of the Genie. Here are the pictures:

Image

Image

Entered some contests with it but never won one. Once, I lost to a guy dressed as the crow. That really pissed me off, because that was just black and white makeup and a black shirt and pants... Ah, well, that has been the story of my life, ha.

One of my problems with making costumes, even though I've made some good ones, is that I can't sew clothing. The times I've tried have been disastrous. For one thing, even when I was in decent shape, my proportions are just weird (I mean, even when I was skinny, er, normal anyway, I had huge upper legs and buttocks). Add to that a lack of knowledge of how clothing is constructed... I could probably do it okay with a pattern, but my proportions would still make it difficult. In the future, I hope I can afford to hire a seamstress, if not ever for cosplay, then at least for Halloween costumes, or I will have to stick with doing characters for whom the clothing can be bought off the rack.

I just did a quick look on D.A. for some of the more unique Disney cosplays I might find. Check these out:

A cosplayer as Billy from Hocus Pocus!

Image

This girl dressed as the singer from the town dance party in Hocus Pocus (yeah, I basically first looked up Hocus Pocus cosplay, because it's a fave film of mine):

Image

Here's the best Sanderson Sisters group I found:

Image

Check it out, Miss Kitty, the singer mouse from the Great Mouse Detective! Just stumbled across this one!

Image

Image

Image

Roxanne and Stacey from A Goofy Movie!

Image

Image

Pretty cool way to photograph your Ariel cosplay!

Image

Image

This is a pretty neat Aladdin and Jasmine one! Cute Jas too!

Image

And here's a rather nice Pocahontas:

I think you kinda answered your own question there. I mostly do cosplay for conventions, gatherings, and other public events. Photo shoots are cool too, but that's mostly to show folks like you guys online. Some people use them for business reasons also.

Btw, your Genie looks AWESOME!

Oh man, that underwater Ariel cosplay is gorgeous. Very creative. I've always wanted to cosplay, but there are no conventions anywhere near me :(

Until recently, I was in the same boat. I live (or, I'm trying to live) in the Austin area now. Though, I will have to get more settled in before I can check out the conventions as they come and all.

Mooky, those are amazing posts! Wow, all the Rapunzels are good, but that last one is a goddess on par with the one I posted, ha. And Aurora and Pocahontas are PERFECT! Except that Aurora maybe should be a bit more pale. Ha, just to nitpick on using the word "perefect".

I too find the last Rapunzel to be amazingly beautiful and a good match for the character (I say 'good', because movie-Rapunzel is more on the cute side than hot or pretty side). And Aurora does seem like she spent way too much time in a tanning bed, lol.

Here I am as Dr. Drakken at last fall's New York Comic Con. As you can see, I would have looked much better if I didn't do the makeup myself.
