2012 Blu Ray release

Walt Disney Pictures just loves to close up their "vault," effectively sealing away new releases of beloved films for years upon years, and driving Disney fans to snap up DVDs and Blu-rays while they still can. But, as grating as it is when Disney closes the vault, all is forgiven when they pop it back open. For their latest "opening," the studio isn't just trotting out one or two titles, they're bringing back thirty films for Blu-ray release. All of the new Blu-rays will be released by the end of 2012, so Disney fans should start saving their (Disney) dollars now.

It's not just animated films on the new release list, but a wide variety of animated and live action films from Disney and their subsidiaries - that's why "Ed Wood" pops up alongside "Step Up" and "Son of Flubber" and a Disney classic like "Pocahontas." That's certainly a variety, but it does mean that the studio will see purchase power from all sorts of movie fans.

Here are the films releasing on Blu-ray in 2012:

May 15: "Father of the Bride" and "Bringing Down the House"
June 5: "The Color of Money," "Cocktail," and "Ransom"
June 19: "Sister Act" and "Evita"
July 3: "The Horse Whisperer," "Under the Tuscan Sun," "Phenomenon," "Step Up," "Home On The Range," and "Treasure Planet."

Fall releases (dates not yet announced): "Adventures in Babysitting," "Grosse Pointe Blank," "Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion," "The Rescuers," "High Fidelity," "Ed Wood," "Judge Dredd," "Ghost of the Abyss 3D," "Lady And The Tramp 2: Scamp’s Adventure," "Pocahontas," "The Tigger Movie," "The Aristocats," and "Pete’s Dragon."

Halloween and holiday releases (dates not yet announced): "Hocus Pocus," "Arachnophobia," "The Hand That Rocks The Cradle," "Son of Flubber," "Cold Creek Manor," "The Santa Clause Trilogy," "The Absent-Minded Professor," "Flubber," "While You Were Sleeping," "Sweet Home Alabama," "Beaches," "Babes in Toyland," "Atlantis: The Lost Empire," "Brother Bear," and "Dick Tracy."
