One of the first individual accounts of Disney's Nine Old Men besides Frank n' Ollie should be published sometime next year. But supposedly, Disney management doesn't think that this bio is "Disney" enough.
First of all, Disney really needs to get over themselves. They torture their artists on every single project with this insular mindset, it nearly sunk the entire studio once before, and they're still driving scores of people away because of it. If Ward's family and former proteges support this book, then it's not nearly the big catastrophe Disney is making it out to be.
Second of all, Disney does NOT own any of their employees. Sure, Ward Kimball spend nearly his whole career working at Disney. But surely, he had a life beyond the Magic Kingdom, as his interests in painting, music, and trains so indicated. If this biography is promoting a Disney artist beyond the company's brand, so be it.
Third, it's not as if there aren't tons of historical documents already confirming that Disney employees, even from Walt's lifetime had personal lives of their own. For Disney to expect people to think that they didn't curse, drink, smoke, or whatever is completely ridiculous.
