I'd but it even though it would be a double dip for me since I own the ?10th anniversary dvd.

Pocahontas is the only Disney Princess that was NOT based on a fairy tale...she actually LIVED...she was REAL>

Plus, I adore Meeko and hope Best Buy would offer a Meeko beanie.. ;)

Great news! While the 10th Anniversary Edition is already fine as it is, I do hope they add more thorough supplements about the film, including a retrospective one. I would like to see what the animators and the entire Disney company today think of the movie in retrospect. Do they still believe it started a slow downward trend in their succeeding films or are they gonna defend it from people who blame it?
Can't wait for the release. :D

Any news regarding Hunchback and Hercules? :P

My major problem with the 10th anniversary DVD is the picture quality. It's probably the worst transfer of any Disney film I've seen (maybe Hercules is worse). Pocahontas lives from its concept of clear, sharp lines. The DVD distorts that with its blurriness.

That's why the Blu-ray is overdue! :)

I really hope they will recycle a lot of the Laserdisc stuff, like the original Audio Commentary.

Really? I happened to love the picture quality of the DVD. The picture and the colors were sharp and bright.

rodis wrote:I love Pocahontas and am looking forward to this release but not as much as I could have been because there's already a really good HD version available online. Same with Aladdin. They're two of my favorite films but blu-ray-like versions already exist which kind of ruins my anticipation. Is it going to look any different anyway? (Aside from some light color changes)
online HD is barely better than DVD and is compressed about as much.

Blu usually is that much better. it's noticeable

Well, I'll probably buy this. I've never had any great love for the movie, but it is beautiful, and I don't have it in any form. Plus, I love the music. I find "Colors of the Wind" and "Just Around the Riverbend" to be some of the prettiest Disney music ever.

I've uploaded some screen caps of both the UK DVD and the HD broadcast. See for yourself, the HD leaves the DVD far behind. Especially on a projector, the Pocahontas DVD is hard to watch in contrast to most other Disney DVD transfers.

i was referring to downloads and online streaming. my point about the blu-ray being noticeably the best still stands.

Thanks for the comparison images! I just watched the DVD about a week ago and I'm really anxious for the Blu-ray now. :)

(I have to confess, the HD broadcast was downloaded, but psst! )
But I absolutely agree, Blu-ray is the closest you get to a theatrical experience.

You're welcome! :) I too can't wait for the day to see Pocahontas in all its glory, being one of my favorite DACs.

There are clips from Pocahontas' HD broadcast on this YouTube page:

http://www.youtube.com/user/DisneyMusicHighDef#p/p

He also has clips from Hercules' CAPS sourced HD broadcast and it's light years ahead of the non-anamorphic film sourced DVD.

Is anyone else a little dismayed that the booklet for the US release of TLK DE didn't include an add for this release, (unless it was just mine). My booklet advertised I think everything, but Poca. If this plays out like Dumbo did I'll be soooooooooooo mad at Disney.

Hmm, the ad posted just says "Proximamente" (which means "soon") with no release date/month, so I won't let myself get my hopes up...I'm still mad at Disney over Dumbo! Lol
