It's Coming out for the Nintendo 3DS. Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance,,,one of the main reasons im looking forward to it is because....there is a New to the Kingdom Hearts games world...based on this world....

Here is a link some info on the game via a forum at www.khinsider.com

If they make one more of these stupid low budget, uninspired games I'm going to flip. Each of these little spin off games completely lacks enough story to make a full game.. instead, they take a tiny bit of story and stretch it out over stupid things like missions or long, repetitive dialogues. Not only that, but the series as a whole has gone far past I think it was ever intended to. They are so wrapped up in their own plot holes that they need to leave new ones for the next game to answer because they can't even explain them yet. I'm so fed up with this series and the fact that I have to have five different consoles (PS2, PSP, DS, 3DS and eventually PS3) just to complete the damn story which doesn't even make any sense.

They have two fully made games and five shorter games to explain what's going on in between and before the other two. Seriously? Chain of Memories, Birth by Sleep, Decoded, 385/2 Days and now this? Ridiculous.

First off, Birth By Sleep is a main game. It's actually long too. And COM isnt exactly a spinoff either. Technically none of them are. Secondly, both the story and gameplay in 3DS, according to the article, pave the way to KH3.

If your gonna hate, dont read the topic then.

And it's Re:Coded, as in a remake of Coded. Not Decoded.

And KH3 is being held up by FFvs13. The team that made KH2 is only now making their first HD game, so yeah, these smaller games also serve the purpose of killing time.

You don't have to tell me what the games are about, I own them aside from the newest (which I must thank you for fixing my typo. Obviously important.) The point of a forum is to discuss, so unless I missed a memo, that doesn't only mean praise.

This is frustrating. I was a fan of the series but these side games are more annoying to play through (and purchase) than anything. The whole line of games is being ruined by poor scripts and the pointless addition of characters. The series overall is messy and confusing. If you disagree, that is fine. Honestly though, besides the original and KH2 (maybe Birth by Sleep) every other game has been a lackluster attempt to make money.

LOL, more KH shit. Too many unneeded games they made.

I personally have enjoyed all the KH games, barring KH2 (which had good ideas, but the whole thing was just executed really really badly). Yes, CoM repeats most everything (though I think the original parts of the storyline were great), and 358/2 Days was rather boring, I've still enjoyed them for their storylines. Birth by Sleep has really got me more interested. If they can keep going in that vein, I'm sure the games'll get better.

I agree, it's annoying to have to buy a new game system every other year (3DS...grr), but I look on the bright side: in future, you'll have plenty of systems to buy games for. :)

Also, I'm excited to see new worlds. I never complained about world repeats, but I do like seeing new ones. I hope Pocahontas is in KH3 whenever.

I agree with the annoyance over needing to buy other systems to get all the games. I was lucky to have already owned a DS for that one, and am hoping that KH3 comes out on PS3 or any other system I own to avoid having to sink in more money.

While I did enjoy revisiting worlds, I could have done without Atlantica in KH2 in favor of something else or at least made it more of an actual level instead of mini-games.

Divinity, I agree on KH2 for what you said. The one thing that annoyed me the most was all the back and forth required for every world. The first game kept that minimal (Traverse Town, Coliseum, World Extras etc.) but with Kh2 you stay for a bit, leave, come back, leave.....I would have prefered if they had kept it like the first game but just expanded on the story, worlds, characters etc. The summons were not fully pleasing, Chicken Little? Seriously? I enjoyed how useful Tinkerbell was in the first game, and how the other summons were a bit more functional but KH2's weren't all that great and I felt they were overshadowed by the characters that could join your party.

Ooooh boy do I have A LOT to say about the Kingdom Hearts franchise.

I LOVED the first game to death. I became so obsessed with it that I believe I got up to level 100 on my first save, then created multiple saves just to experience the story over and over again. I nearly knew the story inside and out. I analyzed the hell out of the plot and its characters. And when two games were announced I was the happiest guy in the world.

Chain of Memories disappointed me greatly. I liked some of the story, but I hated the gameplay. I really hated how you needed to use cards for everything, and the story never really sets up for the sequel that well. It is a side story that managed to tie itself into the main narrative rather clumsily.

Despite that, I was looking forward to Kingdom Hearts with all my might. I kept reading up info, staying up late watching videos of the import version, I became really obsessed with it. I played it and fair enough I enjoyed it a great deal. BUT...I was annoyed at how convoluted the story was getting. The story in the original was complex, sure, but fairly easy to follow. Kingdom Hearts 2 has two sets of villains, too many rules and too many characters playing a major role one way or another. It was insane. I loved the enhanced battle system and the worlds were some of the best in the entire series. But the story got to me so badly that I dropped out of the fandom and never bothered learning about the other games that followed.

I never played 358/2 days, which I heard sucked and has a MAJOR Mary Sue like character. Birth by Sleep, at first, I didn't care much for it. And Re: Coded looked like a lame spin-off title.

But then a few months ago, I got a craving to play Kingdom Hearts. Unfortunately, I no longer have a PS2 and I sold all of my games, so all I could do was watch videos of it. That's when I started paying attention to Birth by Sleep, and I got excited for it. So that's the reason I got a PSP, to play and own Birth by Sleep. Also, I was inspired by many retrospectives done for games like Silent Hill, so I wish to do a big one soon and try to analyze the story my way.

Birth by Sleep was awesome, I loved it. It brought me back to that day many years ago when I first played Kingdom Hearts. Unlike the second game the story was very enjoyable, even if I think Terra and Aqua are dry in their delivery. The battle system is amazing and easily my favorite part of the whole game. It has so many options, features and abilities you can lose yourself messing with it. It is a pretty cool prequel, and it actually got me interest in the story as a whole.

I am getting a review copy of Re:Coded soon so I'll let you know what I think about that in a few weeks.

Regardless all of these games, yeah, Square Enix has the nasty habit of milking their franchises dry. They often use the excuse of "expanding" the game universe just to release these games. Final Fantasy VII got a movie, a PSP game, a celphone game and a PS2 game. They just announced Final Fantasy XIII-2, even though the game was universally hated. Dissidia is getting a sequel as well. The list goes on and on.

And yes, I admit that I want to play these games, regardless if they are superfluous or are needed in the long run. The 3DS was already a strong sell for me based on the Nintendo games alone, but Kingdom Hearts 3DS along with many other third party titles made me want the system even more. So you can bet that eventually I will get the Kingdom Hearts 3D and see how that messes up the plot more :p .

Man....

Is this game gonna be only for 3DS, or can it be played on a regular DS? If not the latter, does that mean I'll have to get a 3DS? :(

I only ask because I heard the American price might be $300 and my family already has two DSi XL's. And I really REALLY don't want to have to spend buckets of money on having to get a new DS. :(

If you want my advice, the only reason to buy ANY system right at launch is because you really want to play a game at the moment or because you want a launch day system.

The 3DS will be around for a LOOOOOOOONG time. During that time, they will re-release it in new colors, new designs, and price will indeed drop. Also, there will be a lot of new games you might be interested in.

The only real flaw is that if you wait till later some of the launch games might become rare and out of print, making them harder to buy. However, Kingdom Hearts 3DS is a Square Enix game, and most importantly a franchise game, which means that it will have a longer shelf life, and thus will be easy to find and buy.

So if you don't want to buy the system and the game now, you can wait.

Well, sorry, I didnt really know how many you owned. You implied only 3. I dont praise the whole series, myself. KH2 has a *lot* of bad dialog, and most of coded is filler. Same could be said for days, but Xion could pop up again. But the gameplay gets really boring after awhile. BBS lacks some character development but is mostly my favorite of the portables. Blank Points would've been better if the rest of the game had dipped it's toes into darker territory.

But the series is not that confusing at all. Not when you replay as much as I have.

You could probably blame the drop in quality on Enix merging with Square.

Either way, I can see why you've grown frustrated with the series. But I personally enjoy it still, in spite of it's clear flaws. I'm gonna do a LP run-through very soon which I might link here in the youtube posted thread. At least you can say that Nomura's trying to cover some plot holes, and they're still keeping it fresh with new Disney worlds.

and if you dont wanna play coded, read this spoiler of the Ending: Yen Sid tells Mickey that the defeats of both Ansem: Seeker of Darkness and Xemnas have naturally resulted in the restoration of Terranort and that in order to clear up the issue of whether Sora is the one chosen by the Keyblade, or Riku is(cuz Terra chose him) and to call them forth to take a Mark of Mastery test. also, the letter Mickey wrote tells Sora about Terra, Ven, and Aqua and how he needs to rescue them.

edit for "Ninja'd"

They just announced Final Fantasy XIII-2, even though the game was universally hated.
Have they? How'd I miss that (knew about the Dissidia sequel). And I personally enjoyed FFXIII, though it suffered from the same problem FFXII did: the lack of a real villain, and a confused storyline. They've also become obsessed with religion since FFX. But, hey, most people didn't like FFXII either, but I loved it (even if it took forever).

Anyway, I had a similar experience as you, pap64. KH was really the first game I ever played, and I got it because of the commercials they had for it (which were awesome--Utada Hikaru <3). I played the game over and over a million times--it’s really what got me into the Final Fantasy’s (I had tried FFX previously, but, for a first game, it was just too complicated to me at the time). I analyzed the plot to death, and felt I knew everything about the games. The first forums I was on were KH-related (long before UD), and I’m still a general moderator at KHU (the KH website, imo) even though I don’t do much of anything anymore because I fell out of the fandom (I’ve recently been doing some things for them to make up for all that time I disappeared).

Watching all the release stuff for KH2 had me *really* excited. The only thing I’ve been that excited as much for since was HP&tDH. I thought the story would be awesome, what with the pictures of Beast with the Unkown, etc.. The Unkowns (later to become the Organization) looked to be really good, and I loved Larxene, Axel, Vexen, etc. from CoM. For that reason, I was sure I’d love KH2. I ended up disappointed because the series seemed to lose interest in its Disney side. The Disney worlds seemed completely irrelevant to the main story (vs. the first game, where every world meant something, except maybe Halloween Town which was fan service), and all the rules from the first game seemed to get thrown out the window. The Heartless came back for no reason, everyone started wielding Keyblades, people could travel even with the walls still in place, etc. And, yes, the script was bad--scenes seemed to drag on and on and on. The environments were linear and required no thought/platforming at all (all the treasure chests clearly laid out), few of the battles felt challenging, Maleficent was made into a complete joke, Hollow Bastion was just out and out ruined, and even the intro to the game was over-long (it took me 3 to 6 hours to get through with the intro). To be honest, the only thing KH2 managed to do better was adding the Drives and making the Gummi Ship missions more fun. Overall though, I think most of the spin-offs have been made to fix the mess KH2 caused.

So, personally, I don't think the increasingly convoluted storyline was a problem (for me, at least). I just don't like how they handled the Disney side of things. Bringing many of the worlds back, they had a lot of potential (I was really hoping to fight Vanessa in Atlantica...too bad now everyone thinks that world is a joke), but it seemed as if they didn't do anything new with them and just set them on repeat. And all the new worlds seemed like shot-for-shot, word-for-word recaps of the movies.

Thankfully, with BbS, they seem to have got back that balance. Although it could still use a little work to reach the level of the first game, it's heads above KH2. That's why I'm looking forward to any new games, spin-off or no.

I do not think I'll ever play this game, since I already got most of the other Kingdom Hearts-games and the matching console to play them. 3D Nintendo DS is not on my shopping-list, so I'll have to wait for Kingdom Hearts III... Meanwhile, I'll enjoy "KH" and "KH II" on PS2 and "Birth By Sleep" on PSP. "Birth By Sleep" is really amazing, it's as good as "KH" and "KHII". I'd wish they would have released it on PS3 instead, but it's a great game nevertheless.

Do people think that they'll ever release "KH: Re: Coded" in Europe, and what about "Kingdom Hearts III", when do we think it's coming and for what console?

I’m pretty sure Nomura (the series’ creator) has said in several interviews that after Re:coded, 3D, and BbS: Final Mix, KH3 would be next in line. I think the only reason it took so long is they were involved in the work on FFXIII. But I’m not sure what to think, after seeing this a couple of hours ago:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORkF1Z1c ... ure=player

People are speculating that it could be a sequel to Birth by Sleep, or it could just be BbS Final Mix (though that would be a lot of stuff to add, compared to past FM additions). From the scenes they show, I kind of hope it’s a sequel. Especially since I already have the PSP now.

The Problem is that this rumored "Birth By Sleep 2" might be....well grab the torches and pitchforks....that this might not be on the PSP....it might be on well..

Also that picture is just some mock up art but there are rumors that they will reveal the PSP2 and PSP Phone on January 27th

http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/3252 ... _Event.php

Here's the secret ending of the Final Mix BBS that is only in Japan...they did say there was a secret game being developed besides the ones such as the 3D kingdom hearts and re:coded...this BBS 2 could be it...and it might be on the PS3 I think I heard at one point that there would be a secret game on the PS3 but I forget...and then there's the factor or fear that by the time Kingdom Hearts 3 comes out and is done....the next gen of consoles will be out....maybe the PS4 or Xbox Infinity or whatever name or Nintendo Sqaured....(i made those names up of the xbox and the nintendo and the PS4)

But I'm hoping Kingdom Hearts III will be on the PS3....and not the future next gen of game console...
