What if YOU were CEO of Disney?

This thread is for what you would do if you were CEO of Disney. If you were in place of someone like Eisner or Iger, what kinds of things would you do?

If I were CEO:

-I would listen to YOU, the fans; TV shows, DVDs, you name it!
-I would cancel Jonas and would let the Jonas Brothers do what they want.
-Make new animated shorts for TV and theaters.

I would:

-Make new TV Shows (Animated and Live-Action). I would cancelled Jonas, Sonny with a Chance, and Zeke & Luther. I would bring back Aaron Stone because Disney really needs an action show.
-No more musical movies on Disney Channel
-Less merchandise from Disney Channel
-More merchandise from Disney movies
-Get a good marketing team
-Making a network for Toon Disney and Zoog Disney shows
-Disney Channel and Disney XD becoming only one network
-Release all DCOM movies on Blu-ray/DVD
-Release all the Disney Saturday Morning Cartoons on Blu-ray/DVD
-Every Disney Animated Classic Movie has a good release on Blu-ray/DVD
-Hollywood Records better promote each artist and have the artists to have control over their music. They only promote The Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, & Demi Lovato. I don't think so.

If I were CEO I would if money was no issue:

-Make all Walt Disney Animation Studios output purely traditional animation.
-Continue production on The Snow Queen.
-Fire Rick Ross for canceling The Snow Queen.
-Introduce Vault Disney, a channel that caters to 20+ year olds, that features classic Disney films, shorts, documentaries, and television programming.
-Announce a fifth gate for Walt Disney World.
-Re-open River Country and Discovery Island.
-Announce Song of the South for Blu-ray/DVD.
- Finish releasing DVD's for all Disney Afternoon shows including Gargoyles.
- Make sure that EVERY promised/announced Blu-ray or DVD actually comes out (Dumbo).
- Step up rate of production of DAC's on Blu-ray.
- Walt Disney Treasures line to be continued with 2/3 waves a year.

To Be Continued!

I would.....

- Make Disney Channel a network for showing classic movies and shorts and cancel all of the tweeny-bopper crap. Yes, Vault Disney 24/7!!!!

- Release SotS on DVD. Seriously. It's time.

- Ensure that the WDT line never dies.

- Let WDAS and Pixar run free and wild and make whatever movies they feel like making.

- Do anything else that seems like a good idea and would both promote the growth and development of the Walt Disney Company and preserve its history and legacy for the coming generations.

Surely, I would make the guys at Disney get their heads out of the toilets and go back to doing what made Disney great.

Seriously.

just to name a few...

1- I would ensure that when the Diamond Editions were released, they were absolutely without a doubt the best edition that could be released at the time. This would also include collector's packages with each DE release, ala Snow White's DE.

2- I would create a few different channels for Disney. I would keep the regular Disney channel, but make sure that it provide entertainment for small children in the morning hours, teen shows in the afternoon, and bring back vault disney in the evenings. Then beyond that create 3 separate channels for all 3.

3- I would release the live action films that have yet to even see DVD, much less Blu.

4- To go off 3, I would definitely have Song of the South released as a special collector's edition (box set as well).

5- I would introduce 2 new Disney parks. I believe Disney should invest in Dubai and Australia. Both regions are heavy tourist destinations and Disney is moving far too slowly to catch on the bandwagon.

6- I would introduce a Villain themed park of some kind. Whether it's stand alone and features more extreme rides or is added to a Magic Kingdom, it just seems like too good of an idea to miss.

7- I would investigate what is going on with Disney's marketing, and why they seem to have such a stranglehold on everything that happens at Disney (WDAS especially). Then fix it immediately.

8- I would revisit Walt's original idea for EPCOT. It seemed like a really cool idea, and could provide a much "greener" alternative of living.

I'll probably think of a lot more :P ...

Wow, some good ones have already been said but they're certainly worth repeating:
  • Release Song of the South fully restored on DVD, Blu-ray and by digital distribution
-include any necessary introduction or featurette to put it into historical context
  • Fix the Disney Channel image by once again offering gender neutral programing
-this includes shutting down Disney XD
-building up the WDTA productions and creating an animation block similar to the Disney Afternoon
(the lack of animated television shows replaced by cheaply made tween sitcoms aimed at girls has contributed to their less-than-stellar image)
  • Bring Disney Cinemagic to the states (their best channel)
-seriously, we enjoy the DACs and the Disney Afternoon shows as much as the international market
  • Review Disney Marketing after every movie
    -this is a BIG one
  • Change 'Tangled' back to Rapunzel
-even after it's already been released, I think people will know
(no one got confused when DreamWorks called How to Train Your Dragon: DreamWork's Dragons during commercials or when they called Shrek Forever After: Shrek The Final Chapter)
  • Give the DACs outside of the Diamond/Platinum lines some respect
-this means quality restorations and Blu-ray releases of ALL of them
-this also means giving them ALL releases similar to the old collector's editions
(no more single disc barebones releases)
  • Release all the WDTA shows in season box sets
-DVD and Blu-ray for the newer shows produced in HD
  • Reopen Walt Disney Animation Studios Florida
-try to get former talent back (i.e. Chris Sanders)
    -reopen the animation tour
-that includes the old Back to Neverland video with Robin Williams
  • Make a 'one computer and one traditional feature' annual slate
-of course utilizing the newly reopened Florida studio to accomplish this
  • Reopen the former DisneyToon Studios
    -returning to their hand-drawn roots
-let them do their own original projects
-possibly more risky, less Disney-like projects
  • Put Lasseter in charge of either Disney or PIXAR animation (his choice)
-currently he's bouncing back and fourth and I think it's affecting the quality as it's just too much for one man to handle
-find someone equally as talented to run whichever studio is left without him
  • Restore ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter
    -Stitch's Great Escape is TERRIBLE
-Skippy and SIR, all the way
  • Remove Pirates of the Caribbean movie characters/props from classic attraction
-Barbossa is NOT the captain of the Wicked Wench
-also remove all the politically correct changes implemented
  • Remove 'Disney' characters from It's A Small World
  • Restore Journey into Imagination to it's former glory (the original incarnation with Dreamfinder)
-utilized advances in tech and such to improve it
-reopen the upstairs area of the Imagination pavilion
  • Fix Spaceship Earth
-this includes rewriting the script to be more sophisticated
-ditching Judi Dench as narrator, either bring back Jeremy Irons or someone equally as good
-ditching the touchscreen finale for animatronics, sets, and stuff to look at
-remove the "tombstones" from in front of the attraction
  • Bring back the Wonders of Life pavilion
    -I loved Cranium Command
(especially the animated preshow directed by Gary Trousdal and Kirk Wise)
    -update the attractions within
(what they're doing to it, wasting away, is a travesty)
  • Bring back an updated Horizons
-Mission Space was cool the first time but quickly forgettable
  • Restore the relaxed feel of the Land pavilion
-this means removing the sterilized white/metallic airport look for the wooden rails and darker paint/carpet
    -bring back the relaxing fountain
-this one isn't feasible but I would've put Soarin' in a different park or area (it just makes the building too crowded)
  • Reinstate the name Disney*MGM Studios
-Disney Hollywood Studios is a horribly generic name
-I don't give a shit about licensing difficulties, just do it
  • Update the Toy Story Midway Mania attraction to better fit the Disney*MGM Studios theme
-make the story: entering PIXAR Studios, currently working on Toy Stoy short, see the computer animation process, get sucked into their computers for a fun time
  • Remove Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show at the Disney*MGM Studios
-frees up the backlot to somewhat restore the tram tour
(this show is a terrible waste of space and inferior to the Indian Jones one in every way)
  • Remove the sorcerer's hat from in front of The Great Movie Ride
-its not only hiding the beautiful Chinese Theater architecture, but the great ride within
(as a movie buff, I love the attraction)
  • Change the Dinosaur's name back to Countdown to Extinction
To me, none of my choices are bad choices for a CEO. They all either improve the company image or make products available for profit. A lot of my decisions were really about getting animation moving again, as television, shorts and features. As far as the theme parks, I'm not happy with the direction Epcot is heading either.
singerguy04 wrote:8- I would revisit Walt's original idea for EPCOT. It seemed like a really cool idea, and could provide a much "greener" alternative of living.
As a CEO, that wouldn't make sense but I sure would LOVE to see that happen. PeopleMovers and monorails for everyone :D

- Release "Song of the South" on Blu-ray/DVD with a high-quality restoration and bonuses about the film's history and such.

- Drop the teeny bopper image created by Disney Channel and make a more family-oriented channel rather than child-oriented.

- Give the non-Diamond DACs quality restorations and newer releases.

- Make a Vault Disney channel and a Disney Cinemagic channel.

- Fire the Jonas Brothers as well as cancelling the other tween-aimed shows (maybe, leave Waverly Place. It's too popular and acclaimed to get rid of).
- Bring back the classic Disney shows (DuckTales, Chip n Dale, Darkwing Duck, etc.) and when they prove successful, release the rest of the episodes on DVD.
- Bring back One Saturday Morning to ABC. Also, order more Mickey Mouse Works shorts. Made Mickey a major mascot for the company, again.
- Fire the marketing department and make the producers and filmmakers responsible for choosing release dates and how they market their films.
- Order the executives from never entering the animation buildings.
- Build a Disneyland in Canada and England. If they can have them in China and France, no reason they can't have them in those nations.
- And of course, listen to the fans. If I was CEO of Disney, I would probably visit UD a couple of times to see fan reactions to my corporate decisions, lol.

Those are the first things that come to mind, anyway.

5. Change the Disney Channel back to what it should be DISNEY!

One thing I would do is go back to leaving the theme parks to their own devices, while providing more attractions and areas to provide revenue from. Believe it or not, Eisner and Wells did leave the parks pretty much alone. At least, they did until 1992 and the pitiful reception to Disneyland Paris. I would also try and abate, or at least slow down, the constant price hikes at the parks.

I have a feeling, though, that if we did any of the things we said we'd do here, the Board of Directors would not be our biggest fans. At all. They would despise us for dismissing the bottom line.

Oh, and where the Disney Channel is concerned, I probably wouldn't jarringly change things back, but I would do it gradually, such as phase out the teen nonsense, starting with the stuff most popular (i.e., JoBros, HSM, etc.). Maybe even have the JoBros, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato and the rest of them all officially disowned, their relationships with Disney all swept under the rug and then we will just speak of them no more. About the only things the tween-type DC will have are "Wizards" (reruns only) and "Phineas and Ferb".

As for what the new Disney Channel will have, well, look over here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disney_Cinemagic. Click on any of the links in this link here and you will see descriptions of this station. Inside one of the lists is a list of shows shown on this station. Go here to see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_pr ... _Cinemagic.

Great, now the business major has to come in, and be semi realistic...

-Release Song of the South on Blu-Ray/DVD, but ONLY in limited quanities. It would be a fully loaded edition, primarily for collectors. I say this because the average buyer would, of course have a holy fit that we are releasing it. So it would only be available online, and a special treat for Disney Collectors.

-Do away with the Disney Princess line. Only release dolls for the movie being rereleased that year. And release toys for both genders for each new movie coming out that year.

-Go back to rerealsing old DACs after an interval of time, and not just a select few. I'd up 7 years to 10 years, just because there are so many now. And they'd ALL get a release, not just the ones guarenteed to make money.

-Remove Lasseter from Disney Animation. Not that I dislike Lasseter, but both Disney and Pixar deserve a head who can give their full energy to making great films. Put another Disney veteran in charge of Disney Animation. Maybe Deja or Goldberg...

-Dick Ross would be out on his rump so fast, he wouldn't know what hit him.

- Release a CGI and Handrawn movie on alternating years. Release films in late summer, while kids are still out of school, and most of the summer blockbusters are out. I really think that if given the chance, August would be a great time to realease family oriented films.

-Release all Disney Afternoon shows on DVD. I never watched them, but people here seem so keen on them, so why not?

-Keep releasing the Disney Treasures Collection.

-Revamp Disney Channel. Mix up the lineup a bit with new animated shows, some action type shows, and less sitcoms. Bring back Vault Disney. Start it out on Sunday nights, and expand it depending on its success. Dcoms would not have sequels, and would be more diverse in their subject matter. Keep doing the classic shorts between shows. Do an animated lineup on weekends. Do away with Disney XD, and bring back Toon Disney.

-Make more diverse Animated films. Not just fairy tales, not just musicals, not just talking animal flicks. Allow the animators to take more risks. Not base the films made soley on how much merchandise they would sell. When musicals are done, use a variety of composers, not just Alan Menken or Randy Newman. Match the composer to the type of film. Personally, I'd love for Danny Elfman to do a Disney musical.

-Sit in on pitch meetings and story sessions for all films, live action and animated, and give my notes and input.

-Make a new Haunted Mansion movie. So much wasted potential... :(

-Every Disney Channel star would not have a singing career. There's no need for it. I would also let the Jobros and the Sprouse twins go. Let them work on their own projects, and perfect their craft. Disney only holds them back, and gives them a stigma they can't shake.

And that's all I can give at this time. I've never been to any American Disney park, and last time I was at Disneyland Paris, it seemed fine, so I can't give my opinion on this. I would, however, remove the movie characters from Pirates of the Carribean.
I also can not justify exclusively showing old Disney afternoon shows on Disney channel, or bringing them back. I'd show them on their own channel, but I think the kids watching the Disney Channel now deserve their own shows, not the shows overly nostalgic fans demand. And while I would listen to fans, I would also listen to the general public, because Disney can not be sucessful on it's existing fanbase only. Time to bring in some new fans.

Better yet, just leave the Haunted Mansion alone.

Let the JoBros and Sprouse twins perfect their craft, unless they end up on the streets. You're right, if there are any new DC stars, they should not have a singing career. It would help if they can't sing at all.

Yeah, maybe. But I still think it could make an epic movie, if done right. I love Disney's darker turns like Watcher in the Woods and Something Wicked This Way Comes, so maybe I'm biased...

Everything that needs to be said has been, except I want to add/stress-

End the Princess Franchise! They'll loose some money at first, but in the end it will be for the better.

Release more merchandise of all the characters for everybody- little boys, little girls, and adults.

No more cycling of DVD releases. This is a HUGE problem. This was a brilliant plan back in the days before home video but now it's redundant. You can still make an event out of a DVD without taking it off the market in a year. If you want to cycle something, bring back theatrical reissues- as they were intended to be seen, not in the 3-D.

1. I would fire all the Disney tweens unless if they're in the Mickey Mouse Club.

2. I will bring back traditional animation, and yes, I will keep PIXAR.

3. Make an animated short film made for video, theaters, and TV.

4. I would bring back Mickey Mouse and the gang from that preschool show that I don't like. No offense.

You all know that Annette and Hayley Mills sang and made albums... I mean, I understand that you all feel that Disney Channel and its stars are "crap", but a) that kind of stuff has been around since the '50s at Disney, and b) it's making a crapload of money. I say that Disney should be making a quality product, but you don't have to disclude certain target markets while doing so...

Okay, let me explain my reasoning for firing the Jonas Brothers:

Yes, Annette Funicello and Hayley Mills were also singers who released albums under Disney. But, they were not only talented, they appealed to a much broader demographic.

This is a matter of opinion, but the Jonas Brothers have ZERO talent. They can't sing their way out of a paper-bag, they cannot act and they have no stage presence whatsoever. Frankly, they're in a way, ruining the Disney image of being aimed at everybody. But, the Jonas's are only majorly popular with tweenage girls. Most people outside of that demographic see them for the awful product they are. And Disney should be releasing quality product out on the marketplace. The Jonas Brothers are one of the main factors why a lot of people think Disney (sans Pixar) is only aimed at tweens and girls nowadays.

If I were CEO of Disney, I would return Disney to being aimed at everybody, not just one key demographic. Funnicello and Mills were popular with most everybody. The Jonas Boys? Not so much.
