I find it funny that this movie comes out in 13 days in Japan and they haven't given us more than 10-30 sec snippets (with the 30 sec snippet be the longest look by far). There was a survey in Japan that says Ghibli (along with Nintendo) is in the top 5 most trusted brands in Japan, so I assume they don't feel they need to advertise there movies anymore (just look at Ponyo's success over there). It's a shame that we probably won't be seeing this until next year.

I just watched the trailer, and I think it might be okay, even though it will not be directed by Miyazaki.

readers digest did a survey of trusted brands here as well, and toyata ranked quite high. however, it was taken late 09 before most of the issues came to light. cadbury chocolate has dropped from the #1 spot its held for like 6 years to #36 or something. thats cos they changed the taste and started using palm oil etc. then they shipped the production to australia, putting hundreds of new zealanders out of work.

localization takes a long time.

and in the tradition of Disney releasing Ghibli films threatrically, it will never be on any screen within the state of Wisconsin until it's blu-ray and DVD

Isn't it typical for Disney to release the Studio Ghibli titles a year after they're released in Japan? Hopefully, this gets more of a Ponyo release than what they did with Tales of Earthsea, which I don't even remember opening in Ontario.

hmm, Borrowers are some of my favorite books! I hope this would do the series some justice....
Disney Channel died when they stopped airing movies with Haley mills (Parent Trap and Pollyanna) and fun adventure movies like Swiss Family Robinson. R.I.P. the REAL Disney Channel. Date of Death: When the shows became teenie bopperish.

I will wait for an official announcement from Disney. According to Jerry Beck's Cartoon Research page that compiles the releases dates of every animated film released in North America, it's set for September.

Disney sends their release date info to Box Office Mojo. If you don't believe me, Nikki Finke also has the date announcement on her blog:

I watched this film in the original Japanese with English subtitles and I fell in love with it. Is it Ghibli's best? No, but it's pretty good. It was enchanting and fun and a great addition to Ghibli's film canon. I watched it online and it had pretty good picture and audio quality (it was a DVD rip). So if anyone wants a link to it, just PM me.

Just imported the Blu-ray from Japan, and posted by review here:

http://www.thereelbits.com/2011/07/02/t ... -arrietty/

A wonderful debut from Yonebayashi, who has the promise of being a worthy successor to the likes of Miyazaki when he eventually retires. The film captures the magic of those earlier films and carves out a niche of its own in this sure to be timeless classic.

Thanks Richard. Good to know you liked it. It will be interesting to see which dub we get too and when Madman can finally set a date for screening (then DVD/Blu-ray). I hate having to wait to add this to my collection (I would rather watch a Dubbed version as apposed to a subbed version - I find with subbed movies/TV I end up pausing and rewinding).

According to Box Office Mojo the film is now titled The Secret World of Arrietty. Personally, I think that name is a little odd; The Borrow Arrietty sounded fine to me.

This film is now scheduled for a January 2012 release for Australia and probably New Zealand (if they don't delay it like they did with Ponyo). So it looks like we get the Disney Dub in Cinemas and probably DVD/Blu-ray (or we could get both dubs, which would be cool).

Can't say I like the title either, but I'll deal with it.

I am really looking forward to seeing this in theaters and the chance that Disney will release the next few Ghibli titles on Blu-ray that we've been waiting forever for in the US (Castle in the Sky and My Neighbors the Yamadas).
