I highly doubt that there will ever be a DVD with Oswald the lucky Rabbit and on with the Alice commedies. Besides copyright issues I don't think that there would be enough people to buy them. It is hard to get through one Alice comedy let alone 5 years worth. Also some of the assorted one are already avalible on other DVD's so they might not be as high a priority as the shorts which have never been released.

I'll hope that Donald 2 and 3 are in the same wave, otherwise it takes too long. and there isn't another character for making a treasure, only donald and pluto and that's it
my favorite object of disney are the treasures and the special editions, so if you have information of this, mail me

Yea, I agree the Ollie and Alices probably wont come out but I included them because it isn't impossible and to help create the entire picture of Disney's work. And after reading how Walt lost Oswald, and then created Mickey I find it unlikely that Disney tried to regain the rights to oswald later in life, it probably stayed with Universial. Read the story

On the Assorteds, I know many of them are already out but I have 2 reasons to include them:
1. Several already released shorts are already on other dvd's but they aren't part of the Treasures yet. But even look at Victory Vehicles its on both the Complete Goofy AND Behind enemy Lines.
2. When I started looking into this, it because obvious that they cant get all outstanding shorts on on double dvd Set, so then I came to the conclusion it must be on 2 sets, and then the length has to be at least 8 hours (4 hours each) So I assume they will be released on these assorted sets. I think the current shorts total somewhere around 8:30 which would be perfect for 2 sets with room for extra stuff.

On the 3 Donald Sets, There is a chance that there will only be Two Sets, If disney packs on the Shorts like they did Goofy (and hopefully will with pluto) then they could fit the total of 86 Shorts on 2 Sets, but since Donald Set 1 only has 34 Shorts I assume they aren't shooting for only 2 more, (Draw it out and suck out more money of course)

I'd buy the Oswald & Alice sets, even if I rarely if ever watched them. It would just be cool to have them, and make my Disney collection that much more complete (when it eventually is completed, of course). But you're right, I'm sure the copyright mess alone would probably make this not worth it... whoever owns it would probably want Disney to buy it off of them, though.

In general I'd say your guesses could be as good as any. But I'd like to comment on a few of your title selections:

About the pre-Mickey, pre-sound works of Disney (Alice and Oswald): I didn't check your lists thoroughly, but if you included all or most released titles no one would be able to release complete sets since a lot of these films are missing.

"Johnny Appleseed" and "The Martins and the Coys" were parts of Melody Time and Make Mine Music. They probably shouldn't be included in this list. Or if they should, so should even more titles from the 1940's "package features".

I wouldn't count on such a film as "Steel and America". If this should be included that could also open up for other non-theatrical commercial/educational films.

"Mickey’s Man Friday" should be on the Mickey in B/W list.

Silly Symphonies:

What's "Hot Chocolate Soldiers"?

"Mother Goose Melodies" and "The China Plate" (both 1931) are already included in the first Silly Symphonies set.

"Autumn" (1930) should be on the Silly Symphonies list.

We already have "Farmyard Symphony" (1938) but we are missing "Mother Goose goes Hollywood" on the same list.

I'm not sure I got it all here, but in my opinion thtere are 75 Silly Symphonies in all - 37 included in the first set, so that leaves 38 for the second one.

Complete sets of Lauphograms, Alice and Oswald are not known to exist.

And even if they are eventually found the film used that long ago would have been badly degregated as they would almost certainly have not been kept properly.

Further, its been a long time since I have taken law but I believe they would become public domain. I believe exemptions can be granted where the intellectual property is an on-going concern e.g. Mickey Mouse, but this would not apply to Alice or Oswald.

The Treasures will likely start with Mickey and Symphonies.

Do the math and the Treasures will string out to 2007 - just in time for them to start all over again with High Definition DVD.

By the way - just how much better can they make HD DVD?

With a progressive scan DVD Player, Plasma TV and surround sound - can they make it that much better to make repurchasing everyting worth it?

I dont think so.

Takk ska du ha Lars.

I made the corrections To the silly Symphonies Volume 2 above.

I removed Hot Chocolate Soldiers, i looked at i closer and it turns out not to be a Silly Symphony but a short stuck into another movie, so it should have been on Behind the Scenes at Walt Disney Studios.

I also added Mickey's Man Friday to the B&W Vol 2. I had thought it was Color since it was released the same year as all the other Color mickey's and was not included because of the "Monkeyfaced native" (not my quote) but now i see it was released one month before the first Color mickey. Thanks for the heads up.

And on the HD DVD, it will be totally useless, seeing as many of the shorts are not in the greatest of shape on the DVD, putting in on a different format isn't going to give any better quality, we hit the peak with dvd. But I'm not saying Disney won't release them trying to get more money out of people, what else will they have by then, released entire collection on dvd, No 2-D animation, No Pixar. they will be looking for revenue from somewhere.

Chernabog,

I actually mixed that set up with the Bugs bunny disc of the Looney tunes Golden Collection. Its extras contain bugs bunny cameos in different movies. Which is what Hot Chocolate is (Mickey with Jimmey Durante). But wrong franchise. Well it will probably show up on another treasure along the way, they have tons of "other" sets they can do besides shorts, sure it will appear sooner or later

I know I certainly wont be re-purchasing the movies... It has cost me too much already !.. Of course by 2007, there will be a whole new generation of kids that weren't around when the DVD's that came out in the early part of the decade were released. Disney will release these to a whole new generation of kids. Of course they have also been holding out on various features that they did not transfer over from the Laser discs that they may put onto the HD discs for obsessed collectors. They will change the cover art and you KNOW some of us will buy !

As others have already pointed out, Disney does not own the rights to the Oswald and Alice shorts. You can buy many of them on DVD already. Also: you can download quite a few of them, legally, from the web.

I really hope Disney decides to release a Alice treasure set while Virginia Davis is still in good health. She isn't getting any younger. Plus I want the surviving silent cartoons to complete my collection of Disney theatrical cartoon shorts.

Actually, it's called "Hot Choc-Late Soldiers", and it would have to be on a "Behind the Scenes at MGM Studios" since it was in their movie "Hollywood Party". When it's shown on TV, the Disney part is always missing, probably because of copyright. It is definately a "Silly Sympnonies" type cartoon, made in 1934 about chocolate soldiers who eventually die by melting in the sun. Too bad that it will never get released on a Disney collection, but it is avavailable on laserdisc. Photos here:

Also, they need to add back the existing Deems Taylor narration to the DVD instead of the re-dubbed voice to make it as complete as possible. What you really need is a laserdisc player, since all of the above (except Fantasia) are available uncensored on laserdisc. And even the Fantasia laserdisc has the original unaltered Deems Taylor voice, unlike the DVD.

I think it is cool to have all these cartoon listed. (Not just the ones I listed, but all of them  ) I really wish that an Oswald set could be expected but it seems there copywright issues as like 101 posters before me stated, not to mention I guess not all of them are accounted for, but if it could be possible to comprise a sent of all the Oswald cartoons, that would be awesome! I've never seen one, but I am intrigued!!!

I also can't wait for the rest of the Donald shorts and the second set of MMiBW cartoons (due out at the end of the year! YAY! I only wish a second Donald set was being released along with it) I also look forward to the second Silly Symphony set...

Anyway, that's all I have to say about that. :)
