Would you people PLEASE stop complaining about a lousy five seconds cut at the end! Who cares if the ending got cut a little? Its not like you lost the solution to all the world's problems or anything.
By the way, I actually have the answer to all the world's problems. There will be world peace, all we have to do is the following things. First, you

Telling people to complain over trivial stuff on the internet is like not putting peanut butter in your jelly sandwich. Its blasphemy!Maerj wrote:Would you people PLEASE stop complaining about a lousy five seconds cut at the end! Who cares if the ending got cut a little? Oops.
Then I suppose I'll change that to "The Donald sets pride themselves on being uncut."
What was edited on "Your Host, Walt Disney", if you don't mind me asking?

Look, there's a maximum sales limit of 39,500 for this release. Having to go through the process of authoring, pressing, and administrating a replacement disc will most likely wipeout all or any profit from the release.
And you all continue to expect the Treasures series to continue indefinitely?
From what I understand from reading this, the short is not censored as such, but probably the wrong transfer was put on the disc. It was probably shortened at some point for a TV airing, and this one inadvertantly ended up on the disc.
Yes, it shouldn't have happened. Yes, its disappointing. But... and this is a big but... research costs time and money. Prepearing the elements costs time and money. Heck, making a whole release like The Chronological Donald must cost a small fortune. It's not like a "Classic Cartoon Favorites" disc where Disney have PURPOSELY slapped on any old print of any old short in order to make a quick buck.
The compilers of the disc have done their best, and I expect under a lot more trying conditions and probably professional pressure than they ever did for wave 1 - simply because I suspect Disney will be allocating far less resource to the Treasures project.

Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database
I double dare you to go onto a Dr Who forum the next time there's a fault on a Who disc and make the same argument - an argument which surely would be more compelling given the pressing size would be around half. Don't worry, I'll come and visit you in hospital afterwards...2099net wrote:Look, there's a maximum sales limit of 39,500 for this release. I don't understand the logic there at all. At least if it was a blackface gag you could rationalise it by saying it's better to leave it out than offend people. How big a chunk would have to go missing before it would be a concern to you?Little Red Henski wrote:I don't have a problem with this cut. I've actually not gone for any Who repressing - I was going to get an Invisible Enemy repressing because rather than missing content, its actually content in the wrong order resulting with an super-obviously incorrect episode playback. But in the end, its still only a few seconds and I just couldn't be bothered to go through the process of sending my disc back (and the slight chance it could be lost in transit).MK Sharp wrote:I double dare you to go onto a Dr Who forum the next time there's a fault on a Who disc and make the same argument - an argument which surely would be more compelling given the pressing size would be around half. I'm pretty sure its an honest mistake - not any attempt at all of censorship. Mistakes happen.I don't understand the logic there at all. I know some will say "all the shorts are supposed to be restored, so the wrong one shouldn't have been picked" but again I ask, for the price of the set - are you really expecting every single short to be restored especially for the set?

I wasn't saying it was censorship. I said that *if* it was a censorship cut, one might be able to understand having a cut version on the disc. But I don't see how you justify an arbitrary chunk of footage going astray.2099net wrote:I'm pretty sure its an honest mistake - not any attempt at all of censorship. Mistakes happen.
I mean, I'm just wondering, given that people are saying "Oh it's only five seconds, what does five seconds matter", how much material would have to be missing for it to start mattering. Would a missing 15 seconds be a problem? 30 seconds? A minute or two? What are people's comfort levels with omissions?
They don't have to super-restore them, just put all the footage on. That would be ample to be going on with. The shorts on Donald Vol 2 may not look very pretty at times, but at least they're all there.I know some will say "all the shorts are supposed to be restored, so the wrong one shouldn't have been picked" but again I ask, for the price of the set - are you really expecting every single short to be restored especially for the set?
At the end of the day, I'm not overly bothered if a repress doesn't happen. I'm happy to take the "I'm all right Jack" approach because I've got a nice VHS of the short which includes the footage in question. But others are not so lucky; and I'm sure the YouTube version will get nuked in a couple of days now someone's pointed it out on this forum (if past precedent is anything to go by).
And let us not forget that the More Silly Symphonies discs were repressed for issues that were, in the grand scheme of things, mostly even more trivial than this. (After all, plenty of other shorts in the Treasure line have the wrong title cards on them.)

Here I go again, but I really think that everyone needs to back off just a little. It is ONLY 5 SECONDS, and it's not like there is anything missing but a close up and fade. I didn't notice anything wrong with it, but I don't watch DVD's to pick them apart, either.
I am happy to just get the shorts in one four-volume collection and that's that.
Don't know why people aren't happy with what they get. Look at all the stuff Disney hasn't issued, or will never issue, i.e. "Song of the South", "So Dear To My Heart", et al. I think we need to be a little less critical of the things that are released and be thankful for what we get, especially when it comes to our Disney stuff.

So Dear To My Heart was put on DVD a few months ago and is a Disney Movie Club Exclusive. Maybe you just meant that it's not available to the general public, I don't know. And sometimes DMC exclusives do become available to the general public.dvdjunkie wrote: Look at all the stuff Disney hasn't issued, or will never issue, i.e. "Song of the South", "So Dear To My Heart", et al.

Don't think of Song Of The South as being unreleased - just think of it as having been released, but with 94 minutes missing. It's only 94 minutes, we shouldn't be too critical about these things...dvdjunkie wrote:Look at all the stuff Disney hasn't issued, or will never issue, i.e. "Song of the South"

It would probably be cheaper to take the existing files from the current Treasures disc and swap over the content for that one short than to design an entirely new disk.Maerj wrote:Instead of remaking the entire DVD because of a 5 second cut, why not just issue a DVD and send them out in a little paper sleeve to anyone who really wants it? If the ending isn't imporatant to you, you wouldn't have to order one. The only thing that would have to be on the disc is that short.
